Well, we're back to the beginning of a new week everyone. Maybe this week will prove to be more productive then last week for me. I only walked 2.5 miles during the week last week. My foot feels way better, but my hip is not too good. I'm still gonna try to wealk some tomorrow. I'm supposed to do 7 miles- we'll see what happens.

QUESTION OF THE DAY;
Q- I want to run a race, can I do my long run the next day?

A- If you are planning to run a race, skip the long run that weekend. You will have substituted intensity for duration. Remember to taper before and allow some easy recovery afterwards.

Good morn all:wave:

I'll have to go back and read the other thread. I'm back from vaca and happy to report I did walk 2x, 4 the first & 2.5. Then I had charge of my 3 nephews plus ds so I had 4 kids to watch and they can't keep up so no walking unless you count the boardwalk to get icecream & funnel cakes:rolleyes:

This week my goal is to walk or if it rains ride my stat. bike 5x and do abs 6x. Please help me stay focused. We have less than 60 days till our cruise & I'm not where I want to be. The beach is a real motivator;)

Sorry Karen you are having foot & hip problems:( Throwing some sunshine your way :sunny:

I got in 45min. of running today . Nothing great but I took yesterday off and it was pretty dismal outside today. Tomorrow I will do another 4mile and work a bit on speed.

Happy Sunday everyone!

Congrats to those of you who got out there today!! I have been incredibly lazy today and I've done nothing!! I will be back on track tomorrow, though....5AM forecast...70 degrees, 90% humidity which is much improved on both numbers!!

Karen, hope the hip is better!!
LAWalz, good for you on the run!
Meme, you did great for exercising twice on vacation! Don't overdo it this week. I'm recommitting this week, too...90 days if we get to take our Fall trip!
~~Beth

Well, I was able to get 2.5 miles in tonight in 45 minutes which is an 18 minute mile- not too bad considering I only walked 2.5 miles last week and 2.5 tonight. I'm going to call the chiropractor in the morning and see if he thinks the foot problem could be in reponse to the hip. It feels like someone is stabbing in the foot with a knife! OUCH!!! I can only take that for so long and tghen it's so long to walking!

Beth- I hope you have a nice relaxing walk in your winter weather tomorrow!!

decaff- every minute you walk is better then no minutes at all! Good for you for wlaking for 45 minutes!

Meme- you can count on me to hold you accountable! I will not let you let yourself down!! You did great walking on vacation- WOOHOO!! Thanks for the sunshine- I needed it today!

Morning! I had a bad week last week......in the exercise department. But did spend Sat at Sea World San Diego and put in lots of miles there! I was a bit achy yesterday......goes to show you you can't sit for a week and expect an old body to jump right back into high mileage :hyper: :hyper: :hyper:

I don't go into the office today.....have a computer class to attend. It's a farther drive than my regular commute, but near a great 'walking' mall.......so I'm throwing the sneakers into the car and will do a few laps after spending all day in front of a computer. I'd walk at the lunch break, but it will be 100 plus degrees here today :sunny:

Eight weeks till the 10K..................must focus, focus, focus on that! Half-way between now and then I have 5 days at WDW. We are planing an Epcot/Boardwalk/MGM walk that week (but at a slow pace due to heat and humidity!) that will duplicate part of the route for the 10K.

I'm off to read last week's thread.........for some inspiration from my fellow WISH WALKERS!

Good morning walkers/runners:wave2:

Managed 2.7 mile walk yesterday - thought it was longer so I'll check my pedometer. What type of pedometers does everyone have?

How do you guys wash your sneaks, in the washer? Mine are looking pretty dirty, from all this walking:) amazing I never had that problem before;)

Does anyone know a tentative schedule for the marathon? I need to make plans for dh and need an idea of what group events are planned?

Have a great Tuesday:sunny:

Meme- we are planning a get together Saturday evening- and probably something after the marathon on Sunday. There are no specifics yet.

Karebear, could it be a bone spur? I've never had one, but I know several people who have and that is what they described it as. I'm so sorry you have to deal with this.

I did a 12 mile walk in 2 hours, 47 minutes on Saturday. The weather was perfect, 75 no humidity, gentle breeze. It really wasn't very hard. I bought new shoes since my last long walk (10 miles) and I think that made a huge difference. I'm still trying to decide how much of the 1/2 marathon I will try to run. Right now it doesn't look like I will be able to do the whole thing running. But I am psyched to know I can handle the walk!

Keep the post comin'::yes::

Sundie,

WOW!!! I'm so impressed!! I am a walk/runner and am concerned that I might not make it in time. I just can't walk for very long. I break into a run. I have done the longest distance of 5.0 miles so far. I am hopeful !! I still have a lot of time to get my speed up. Time to run today! See you!

Hey all!

only 22 minutes this morning and it was just too hot for me. I didn't get out until 5:40, so tomorrow AM I'll hit it at 5sharp and hopefully get in a longer walk. I need to hit 42 minutes everyday for the rest of the month to hit the 1000 min challenge. (yes, sad, but true!) Anyway, I would like to accomplish that! Myabe I can do 60 minutes tomorrow. Stay tuned!

Karen, good luck with the foot and the hip. I have to stretch the heels of my feet really well or I have a lot of pain. Also, my winter weather vanished. <sigh>

Meme, I have been known to scotchguard my walking shoes when I first get them. Only caution is that it can be slightly yellowing to rubber-type products. But they certainly look better than the ones I haven't done!! I do wash mine about once a month or once every two months....I have several pair that I rotate throughout the week.

Congrats to all of you who have exercised today!
~~Beth

Auntmeme- I just throw my running shoes in the washer with a couple of old towels. I do add a 1/4 cup of bleach to get the bacteria and smell from sweating out too. I've never had a problem with this process. Sometimes I rub in some Shout gel to get them looking good again. Them just open them up and set them somewhere to air dry. It feels good to have clean shoes(almmost like new).

I did get in a short walk/run today. It has been 50 degrees and raining all day . Only 40 min. before it poured again. Sorry to those who are training in the heat. It is not usually this cold here. Normal is 80 with low humidity.

Didn't get to curves today, shoot for tomorrow agian.

Ohmom, :bday: :bday: Sorry its late, hope it was great!

Just wanted to say hello! I walked a little on Sat then took Sun off for my parent's 50th anniversary party. I did do a lot of walking back and forth and dancing so I guess I exercised. Today, I was busy packing and shopping for last minute stuff. Clothes and paraphenalia for WDW and a cruise is making me a little nuts. Adding that to my slightly obsessive-compulsive personality makes my mind go a hundred miles an hour. Hopefully it will shut off (my brain) so I can sleep tonight. Tomorrow, I will try for a 3 mile walk and see how my toe holds up and then it is back to the vascular dr. to see what he says.
Karen, take care of your foot, I hope it feels better soon. Bone spurs are very painful, I have had them in the past and cannot imagine walking with them. They did go away after some rest.

I was wondering when everyone will be arriving and departing the weekend of the marathon? My mom and I will arrive Fri afternoon and then leave Mon afternoon.

Happy Training ALL! If I don't get a chance to check in tomorrow, I will be back on the 22nd.

OK- I went to the chiropractor this morning, but will not walk until tomorrow morning- cross your fingers nad send pixie dust so my hip/foot will be ok. I don't think the problem is a bone spur- I'm pretty sure it has to do with the tendons in the foot. In any case- I'm ready to get moving again! It's hard to just sit still and watch all your guys pass me up! :teeth:

LAWalz- have a blast on your vacation.... and think of us..... lease! Some of us have to live vicariously through those of you that get to go before January!!! Are you going to check out the hill by the Contemporary for us or was that someone else? My plan for the marathon is to arrive on Friday afternoon- as EARLY as I can- 4:30pm and stay in WDW until Saturday the 15th, then take a limo down to Port Canaveral to set sail on a 7 day Western cruise on DCL! I'm sooooo jazzed! Are you doing a Disney cruise?

Decaff- good job on the 40 minutes- every little step helps us move towards our "We won't be swept" motto!

Beth- I just don't know how you can even walk in the heat you all get there! It was 100 here today- with practically no humidity- and I can't even step out the front door without hyperventilating! Good for you for walking girlie!

Sundie- I have to say that I am WAY IMPRESSED with what you've done! I can hardly wait 'til the day that I can ahve that confidence of knowing that I will absolutely eb bale to finish this half marathon. Right now.... I'm sure of 1 thing.... that I could do 6 miles of the half marathon... and not one step further! You will be able to run some of this marathon. I am positive of it! Aren't you proud of yourself ?!?!?!? YOU SHOULD BE!!!!

Were's Ashley???? Are you slacking again girl??? I'm keeping my eye on you !! :magnify: Actually, there are several people missing.... where are you all???

I"m here!
I was at a computer class today and learned how to make tables and graphs...............guess what I'll be making first thing......customized training schedule.....8 Weeks till the 10K, then a 13 week one for the 1/2 Marathon! So that's what I'll be up to tomorrow night. Didn't get to the mall after class like I planned, as it went over. Tomorrow I'll be doing 30 mins on the treadmill (plus warm up and cool down) at work, then will pop over to sister's for a swim ::yes::

We're arriving on the 7th, and I've booked All Star Movies till the 15th....but we might not stay that long (also may upgrade resort for the back half as a 'reward'. Had thought about doing Discovery Cove as the 'reward' then realized how COLD the water will be :earseek:

As a low-carber, I'll be doing research on carbs for energy as they relate to race day. I know right now eating some types of carbs is making me sick to my stomach.....if anybody has links to articles or anything, please share them.

I got in 33 minutes this morning. Had planned more, and I was walking in a very fine rain, but then the thunder and lightening began and I took that as a sign to GO HOME!lol. It began raining harder after that, so I would have headed here anyway.

Hope everyone has a great day! I really need to walk longer tomorrow. GO AWAY TROPICAL STORM BONNIE!

Good Tuesday Morning Everyone,

I am happy to say that I am in week three of Hal Higdon's 12 week training schedule. I hope that it is really going to work. Last night I walked 1.6 miles in 30 minutes.

Debbie won't be checking in because she is away for a few days, but she has planned her training for those days. Today she is at Paramount Canada's Wonderland and she'll get lots of walking there. We went last Friday and I figure we walked at least 4 or 5 miles. I could hardly move the next day.

I am using the Hal Higdon's training schedule which I got off his website at www.halhigdon.com.

Beth, I think we're going to be at WDW the same time in November. I hope to walk some of the paths that the half marathon will follow just to try it out.

Good luck today everyone. I'm glad that fall is on its way so that outside training is very comfortable, however, there is always the mall.:hyper:

Have a super day!!:Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

Hi Decaf!

I think one of the reasons I can force myself the long distance is that I park my car at one end of an 11 mile long bike path and then walk 6 miles out and turn around. I have NO CHOICE but to continue until I get back to my car! I do carry a cell phone incase I can't make it back. I started doing my long distance training on the treadmill and that was WAY TOO BORING. The bike path is really great because it has mile markers that I can use to check my pace along the way.

{{{KareBear}}} I'm requesting pixie dust sent your way::yes::

It must be very frustrating to have to rest your leg, but rest now will insure your success later! I hope they figure out what's wrong and fix it right away.
