Many decisions to make: VGF vs Riviera, direct or resale and use year.

The term bonus is really a misnomer.

You always get current UY points except during the first year of opening.

So, everyone is getting 2022 UY points and will continue to get them as long as they buy before they enter the 2023 UY for that month.

So, I have a June UY and got 2022 UY points. I can add on more in the UY up until May 31st 2023 and would get those 2022 UY points again, and then my 2023 UY points as well.

Even those who night with a Feb UY will get 2022 points put until Feb 1st when it changes.

Bonus is simply nothing more than buying strategically near the end of a UY.

The only exception can be sold out resorts because they don’t always them in stock to sell.
So I have an October UY, so if I waited and bought this November I’d get the points from 2022 and 2023? Or would I not get the extra points until next year?

One other thought on the end-of-year point situation. I would argue that your choice of a resort will be with you, and affect you for the next 40+ years - the doubled points will be long forgotten

I prefer Epcot and HS way more than MK - I would not buy 2 weeks worth of points on the Monorail even if I had a triple-point deal. Because all three Epcot resorts sell out of SV rooms before 7 months (99% of the time). Why have points if you don't get the vacation you want?
You can always sell it if you end up not liking it, buy something else. Sometimes your preference will change.

I got the 2021 and 2022 UY points buying last month at RIV with an Oct UY. They do push back on changing from the UY they are offering and have to get approval, but it seemed that approval was given easily for it in the end. They also got permission beforehand to allow for them to be banked past the deadline, although they make you call MS to actually bank the points.

As a new member, I was able to get a $500 incentive for having someone refer me and another $500 for having a cash stay booked for this fall. The incentive for having a cash stay in the fall was much harder to get and it took the guide a while of talking to managers to get it approved for me.

On a side note, for my family it was a no brainer to buy RIV over VGF. We will always book a 1 or 2 bedroom and we didn’t like the more expensive VGF point chart and the fact that with all of the new studio points being added, that it might be hard to get reservations for the larger rooms even in the 11 month window.

The points come when the UY happens so if you buy in November, you get Oct 2022 points and then 2023 points when 2023 UY starts.

But if you waited and bought next August, you’d get those same set of points because you would still be in your 2022 UY., but would pay no 2022 dues and only 4 months of 2023 dues since those go based on calendar year and ownership.

It’s all about what UY you are in that determines. Because VGF only opened in 2022, the first set of points given were for the 2022 UY , no matter when you bought.

I bought my Dec UY points as well in March, but don’t get my first set until the start of the 2022 UY. The plus is I don’t pay 2022 MFs for more than 1 month.

Exactly what we have done when we decided to adjust after having years of stays and finally figuring out our favorites.

Same here, we didn't sell but we did purchase a new contract at Riviera instead of adding on to our VGF points. We like CCV and were thinking of adding more there, but it is so expensive direct, so we took advantage of the July incentive for Riviera which we totally love as well.

At what point do you think the VGF “bonus” points will be available? Does it go by the month the resort opened? So starting mid next year they might be available?
This is an interesting thought. I’m assuming VGF will still be on sale next year so they should be able to offer the double points then. However, we can’t predict the price per point or the incentives at that time.

BC, YC, and RR all sell out of (what does SV mean?)

SV is standard view. They exist at RIV and BWV for the Epcot area. BC does not have views…and no YC DVC.

Since they are the less expensive point options for those resorts, you need to own there to have the best chance to book them.

That’s part of the reason we bought at VGF. We want to be close to MK because our child is a toddler but in the future I see us spending more time at Epcot and HS. Eventually, we might sell VGF and buy at a different resort closer to these parks, and resale price for VGF is hard to beat plus there are no restrictions.

That's very helpful! So, am I understanding correctly that if I bought October UY before October 2022, I would get 2021 points?
Yes bit at this point its mite unless you are planning on going between Oct and December. If you get February use year at vgf in feb 2023 the new points will load. The 2021 points will have to be used by October 2022, unless they have softened their banking policy for new contract.

They always let you bank late when buying direct. It’s even in the home resort rules and regulations that they make the exception.

Thank you ☺️ As Sandisw mentioned there is Disney card holder discount that kicks in at 250 pts plus there is pre-arrival $500 credit if you have confirmed Disney reservation. In the end, we paid $194 per point instead of $207. Before closing, I looked up a couple of 100 pts AKV resale contracts and ran the numbers including closing costs, was surprised myself to see that difference was so small.
You may end up coming out ahead sooner than you think as the dues are $1.23 less a point at VGF as well

So is it possible that they run out of last years points to give at the time of purchase? I have an October UY and want to add on some more riviera points but need to wait until early September due to some work issues. Is it possible that if I wait that long that they wouldn’t be able to give me the extra points from 2021?

The end of September is perfect timing. They should have them still available as it is an active property but we never know for sure.
If you are able to get the 2022 points for October, remember they will prorate your dues based on when you purchase so you will only owe about 25% of dues for those extra points in the 2022.
