Manual 'commode' wheelchair rental

I arrive at Disney this Friday with my own powerchair.

A couple of trips ago, I rented a commode type wheelchair for use in the bathroom and shower from Walkers. This worked out great. Instead of making three transfers each night, I made just one and used the commode chair at the toilet, rolled into the shower, then to the bed. I find transfers difficult, with a danger of my falling, so not having to make separate transfers to the toilet and then to a shower seat was a great help.

However, Walkers have stopped renting them, Care Med have a 250lb limit, Randys have never rented them and Colonial doesn't have a number I can call from the UK.

Someone suggested Brevard Medical, but I cannot find a number for them.

Has anyone other suggestions?

Andrew- I wish I had some information that could help you. I do know Brevard Medical is located near Port Canaveral but don't have the number handy or know if they deliver to WDW area. Where are you staying this trip? Perhaps the resort might have the info? ---Kathy

I can see how that would be very much safer and more convenient for you to have one of those.
You might try contacting WDW Resort Special Reservations:
(407) 939-7807
(407) 939-7670 [TTY]
and see if they can help you out.

Here's

Brevard Medical Equipment's website , but I could not get any of the links to work and (as Kathy mentioned), it looks like they are more aimed at cruise than the WDW locations.

This page might be helpful as it lists all sorts of medical equipment companies in the Orlando area. (I apologize if you are not a "Senior" - which in the US is over 50 yr, but sometimes they have the best resources). It doesn't say how recently the page was updated, so it might not be that up to date. At least since it's a consumer list, you should find places on it that rent to individuals (rather than wanted to see you 100 commode chairs).

The other thought I have is that since Walker no longer rents them and CARE doesn't rent any that fit your needs, they might be willing to give you some ideas about where you could get what you need.

Good luck.

Care suggested Walker, Walker suggested Brevard!

In 24 hours I leave home to stay overnight at a hotel near the airport. I should be checking into the Boardwalk late Friday afternoon. I am starting to panic, clearing up last minute tasks. I will wait until arrive & see what I can arrange then.

My house elevator broke down last week and the engineers are waiting for parts. I have to be carried down the steps of my front door to get to the street. My powerchair is in my Chrysler van, because I couldn't get it up the steps. Last night I found I have a flat battery and can't open the powered van door to get my powercair out, so I have to call the AA (UK equivalent of AAA). In England we have a saying 'It doesn't rain - but it pours!'

Oh Wow! Andrew....I sure hope everything gets squared away asap! Sue gave some great ideas and I'm glad she had the links. It seems like someone must still carry that equipment but I guess if it isn't cost effective, they might discontinue an item for rental. I hope you have a great time at Boardwalk- I love that resort except for trying to get on a bus to MK or AK since it's the last stop. Last time around I started getting off the bus at Swan and just riding back over to BW and should probably have started out our day travels there too. Good luck!---Kathy

Andrew,
Did you try special services at the hotel? It's a long shot but.....
Wishing you the best. PD coming your way.

Hi Andrew

Sorry I can't help with your question, but just wanted to say sorry you are having a stressful time at the moment!

Hopefully once you get to the Magical Place you will be able to relax and enjoy your trip.

Take Care :D

We have the same saying on this side of the ocean.
It sounds like you have had quite enough of pouring on you and you deserve a wonderful and stress free vacation.
