Managing two use years

30 year DVC veteran here. We are OCT UY members but did have quite a few contracts 4-5 years ago with multiple UY's. I would not recommend it. I found it a total pain.

If you plan to use contracts specific to the UY with different trips you will find life easier. If you are trying to mix your points for single trips, keep excellent notes on a DVC specific calendar. Banking and borrowing may get confusing. It will take more effort but many members do it. Good luck!

Yes, you must call member services to book with the transferred points.
Once you call MS and 'do the transfer' (book something) you get a temporary contract in the membership you transferred your points to. ( I recently did this ... They let me transfer banked and non banked points around ... Showed up as 2 temporary contracts in my target membership)

While you don't see the points on the dashboard, you will see the temporary contracts when you book a room. ( Either modify, or even in a new booking... The screen allows you to choose what contract order to use up points )

Anyway, yeah, a bit of a PitA...

Have fun! Good luck!

Why did you do two UYs? Was it just because you thought it was a good deal or because the UYs aligned with specific travel goals?

If it was just over price, I would rescind if you are within 10 days.
Yes it was over price, I thought it was a really good deal with a lot of points we could use. We do take two vacations a year so I'm recalibrating my thoughts before signing this and seeing if using them for two seperate vacations will work instead of trying to combine them all together every year

February and December are as far apart as possible of 2 use years you can get and they're not spaced out well. It doesn't seem like much because December and February are only 2 months apart but let's put this into perspective from a use year standpoint.

For examples sake I'm going to use 2025. For 2025 your Feb use year runs from 2/1/25 to 1/31/26. For your December use year it runs from 12/1/2025 to 11/30/26.

This means that the only times you can use your points together from 2025 is between 12/1 of that year and 1/31/26. Otherwise if you use them after 2/1, you will have to use 2026 points from the February use year and 2025 points from the December use year. Then of course things get more complicated when you begin banking/borrowing the points. Also keep in mind if you transfer points between your use years like from your February to December use year, you will not be able to see your transferred points in your dashboard. You'll have to keep track of your points on your own for those. I own multiple use years but I would strongly advise against owning this particular combination especially if you ever plan on combining the points. It really is the worst combination of use years you can do.
Just my luck 🙃

I say this as someone with two UYs (June and December) I would not move forward with the December contract. I have two UY bc we truly do expect to travel to WDW year-round and I don’t feel comfortable doing so after a banking deadline…but I use the UYs for entirely different trips and never anticipate needing to combine (transfer), But your situation adds so many layers of complexity I would save yourself now. Sorry, I know that’s probably not what you want to hear. 😔
Definetely not what i wanted to hear, the truth hurts, but now I'm trying to see if this will work rotating trips on different years 😒

Same as above, we have multiple UY because they have specific purposes. The bulk of our points are in 1 UY, 5 contracts worth. It’s way easier to use them all together. If I were you, I would rescind this and look for a FEB UY to compliment your other contract.

I thought you were looking at direct next?
I am, but were trying to book a big hawaii trip with family next year and i realized I needed more points for aulani so we decided if a good akv resale came up we would go for it. And one did with the wrong UY 😪

Never one to back down from a challenge lol but I think I'm going to treat these as seperate annual vacations and then split my direct Riviera points when I buy them to 75 points each to compliment each seperate contract, do you think that could be a good plan?

So you can book online if you transfer and don't have to call MS?

Do you guys think if I treat these as seperate annual vacations and then split my direct Riviera points when I buy them to 75 points each to compliment each seperate contract, it would be a good plan? The good thing is we are super flexible with when we can take vacations

If you split by use year, I don't think you get the same price incentive at 150, you will get the incentive at 75 since it goes to two separate memberships. More knowledgeable people, please correct me

I would not separate my direct points - you’re going to want maximum flexibility with those and splitting them already puts you at a disadvantage IMO.

So the solution is to buy more points to compliment both 🤣🤣 do they have AA meetings for DVC?
Hahaha.. sadly (?) not outside of our annual dues bill.

I’m sorry if you explained this before but generally speaking how do you plan to use these points every year (if next year is an outlier, call that out too 🙂)

I don't think it's worth doing it like this, you're just making more headache for yourself. With you taking trips in May and September, there's no need for a second use year. You just need the February UY. You're free to do what you'd like but I said it before and I'll say it again, strongly recommend rescinding the December UY contract.

I mean I have both Feb and Dec use years. I never planned to end up with 2 use years, but I kind of rushed when one of the restrictions were announced to get another contract before those restrictions went into effect. But it is fine since I typically use the points for different vacations. Only once have I transferred points from one membership to the other and that was to book a larger room for September/October 2021 for the anniversary. I needed to avoid losing points due to the Covid closures.

Transferred points will work online at the 7 month mark but not during the home resort period unless they are same resort and UY

In this case, using for different trips is an ideal way. We have three UYs for this reason.

Now, we do sometimes book some nights on one and some on the other, and ask to link so we don’t change rooms…and so far have never had to.

If you buy direct RIV and split, be aware you will lose the ability to use all those RIV points for a single trip…and because your resale points won’t be good at RIV, it may or may not work.

So you don't regret it or find it too confusing? I'm the type that will not cancel a vacation unless I'm on my deathbed 🤣🤣
