Mammogram call

I can't wait until next week at this time. The Dr. said he was 98% sure it was nothing but you still worry a little about the other 2%. I can't wait we are headed to WDW April 18th-25th I need the vacation after this year between Mom and this.

One of the PAs that I work with gave me a hint to avoid the "dreaded phonecall". And yes, why are they always on a day that you can't get ahold of the center and have to wait?

Anyway, have your physician request a "diagnostic" mammogram when they write your order. That way, you get the extra views and a radiologist is there to read it right away. No call backs and you have your results in hand.

Worth a try,
Edie

uhhh, except that is insurance fraud.

I didn't get a call but I got a letter on a Fri. saying that I needed another mamm. I couldn't get in touch with my Dr. but I went to the place where I had the mamm. done and they were able to give me some info. I would have went nuts if I had waited until Mond.

Hope that it all works out for you.

I had my annual mammogram Wednesday morning. My hospital has had digital mamms for two years now (this is my second digital mamm).
The Women's Care Center called the house yesterday afternoon. My daughter took the phone number to call back on Monday as they were closing at 3pm. You get a note in the mail one week after procedure saying it was ok or the tech will call within the week if any changes. So now I have to wait all weekend to see what the issue is. I haven't had problems in the past, but 16 years ago (at age 28) I under went radiation for Hodgkin's Disease. I have had my mammograms every year faithfully for at least 8 or 9 years and never had a problem.

I work in a dr office and we always book second looks etc...but you know...
I don't feel crazed, but I do wish it were Monday already.
I hope it all works out.

The last two places I have gone to (Calif. and Ark.) give you the results before you leave. Everyone sees the radiologist in person. Great idea.
That is what they do where I go. You also leave with a copy of the report.

I had my first Mammogram (baseline) on Thurs at the age of 35 because my Mom has Ovarian Cancer and that and Breast Cancer ar linked. What was to be a routine baseline ended with about 8 pictures and a 20 minute ultrasound and now a biopsy on Tues. at 2:30 because they see a lump on my left breast. Keep your fingers crossed and prayers. I know it could be nothing but I still worry. My office had a Dr. there to read them right away and they do that for everyone no waiting. It is nice.

I'll be thinking of you!

OP,

I have been in your shoes. I was on vacation when the dr office gave me the callback on my home phone telling me they wanted me to have further tests due to the mammogram findings. When I got back from vacation, there were three different messages on my phone from them. That was very unnerving. Turned out to be cysts.

On a different occasion, my ob/gyn called me back after my annual exam, because they need to do the exam again. WHAT?????? That unnerved me as well. The reason they had to do it again was because of a problem with the lab... NICE!!!! I was not happy about that one at all.:headache:

It is hard to say not to worry, but if you can, find something to fill your time with, so you will spend less time worrying.

Mine use to do this, but now, they send me a letter about 2 weeks later.:sad2:

I would love that! I had one Tuesday and haven't heard anything yet. :sad2: Those tests are awful anyway and it would be nice to know right away.

I've been called back too and it's not an easy emotion to deal with. Everything ended up being okay, just dense tissue. I'm betting you'll be okay too. Good Luck

You gals are great. I am not panicked, but every now and then I get that twinge in my belly.
As I said in a previous post I work in a dr office and we book many second looks, ultra sounds and breast mri and majority of them are fine. I want to be in that majority! lol

I know how you feel. I have a history of cysts but when I went to the gyn in late October for my regular exam, she felt a lump in my right breast. She said it felt like a cyst. I hadn't felt it the last time I checked (I know I don't do that often enough) and I had a PCP visit in early September and he did not say anything. Then I felt it afterwards and it scared the heck out of me. She did write me up for a diagnostic but my appt was not for 2 weeks. Luckily it was just a cyst (they did an immediate ultrasound).

Why - oh why do they even make those calls on Fridays? Even someone like you who has some knowledge & expereince has that little nugget of worry of "what if". You know in your heart that it's more than likely OK, but you can't help but wish you could know NOW!

Hang in there. Find something to do on Sunday.

Going for second mammogram Wednesday morning.

I asked the tech this morning what the report said. She said I have moderatly dense breasts and they saw a (or some I don't remember which) calcifications.
I tried to make light of her calling so close to closing time Friday afternon. I said PLEASE don't call on a friday afternoon and leave me hanging all weekend again and she said "I'm not anticipating that I will have to call you again." Which also made me feel better.

Jan, that is definitely good news. When my sister went to get her last mammogram, they called her immediately and had her come in the next day. They told her the radiologist would be in the room too. Everything turned out fine though.

The fact that they did not call you in right away is a good sign. It sounds like what the tech told you is very common. The same type of thing happened to me. In fact, when I went back for more pictures, I asked the other women in the waiting room (there were about 5) and ALL of them had been called back at one time or another. None of them had cancer. It must be very common.

Follow up mammogram this morning.
Radiologist said low concern. calcifications seem benign in nature. Follow up mammo in 6 mos. So overall very good follow up mammogram!
Thanks for your support!
Jan

I just received a letter from the hospital saying that they'd decided to request the films from the old place I went to so that they could compare. Great. I guess that it's good that they are being careful but it's been over a week and I'm still waiting. :(

Jan, I'm glad that you're OK. :)
