Making ressie's pending points

Hope someone can help with this.

We are new DVC time share members. We do not get our first points until December 1, 2006. We would like to book a vacation at SRS for October 2007 and our 11-month time frame would start the first week in November 2006. Can we make a reservation in November 2006 for our October 2007 vacation before we actually get our points in December 2006.

Whew, hope I haven't confused everyone.

Absolutely !!!!!! You can book using your 2007 points for 2007 at your 11 month window in 2006

Yes you can. What matters is that the points needed for the reservation are available in the same Use Year as the dates of stay. With a December Use Year:

Your 2006 points are valid for stays from Dec 1, 2006 - Nov 30, 2007
Your 2007 points are valid for stays from Dec 1, 2007 - Nov 30, 2008
Your 2008 points are valid for stays from Dec 1, 2008 - Nov 30, 2009
etc.

So if you want to travel in Oct '07, your 2006 points can be used for that stay.** And you don't have to wait until December to use those points. You can make the reservation in November. You can always make reservations at your home resort 11 months from your check-in date regardless of your Use Year.

** ETA: You can also borrow some/all of your 2007 Use Year points for the Oct '07 trip. Borrowing 2007 points makes them useable for stays from Dec 1, 2006 - Nov 30, 2007. Borrowing is a final transaction -- the points cannot be put back or banked into the 2007 Use Year and would expire on Nov 30, 2007.

Thanks for the info and the quick responses. We are so very excited to make our first reservation but the bad part will be waiting from November of this year until October of next year ......Oh the price we have to pay.....

Do banked points get automatically used first when making your next reservation, or do you need to "make sure" they are being used first? I have been kind of confused about that one.

Not automatically but they usually are if they are in that use year already. If you make a reservation then later move banked or borrowed points into that use year for some reason, they would not be used in any reservation unless you actively make it happen. You should always specify which points are being used and what ALL balances are for the current and any future use years applicable when using points.

I agree with Dean and in addition, suggest that all new members get in the habit of asking MS to give them a status of their points before they hang up.

If the MS records don't agree with your own records, it is sure a lot easier to fix right then and there than it will be later. That practice has saved me a lot of hassle on more than one occasion.
