Hello all!

I can not believe how much information I have received on this site!! It is GREAT!! I am hoping to get some ideas now!

My husband loves Disney or maybe its Goofy!!! We have never been to WDW and were actually supposed to go Christmas time of 2004 but his National Guard unit was called up for an 18 month deployment to Iraq. Needless to say we canceled our trip and tried to book it for his R&R in 2005 but we couldn't. Now it is 2009 and anther son later we are booked for a 7 night stay at CSR during his R&R from Iraq. (Bless Disney World for offering such a great discount!!!) This deployment has been much harder on him and feels very disconnected with us (wife, DS1 who is 7 and DS2 who is 2) Bless his heart he is trying to stay up with all the planning and stuff but just does not have the time. I am trying to figure out what I can do to show him how much he means to us even when he is thousands of miles away.

Has anyone ever done something extra special for their loved ones? He LOVES cake and has not had any since being gone so I thought about having the Mickey cake or a personalized one with Goofy (his fav) delivered to our room with maybe some red white and blue balloons? I don't even know if they would deliver to CSR? Or is there some way I can arrange to have him meet Goofy if we can't see him throughout the parks? I do not mind paying extra, I just don't know if they do that? I know being at Disney with his family will be enough for him but he deserves so much and if I can just make our trip a tad bit better it would be great.

I think the best way to meet any must-see characters is to book a character meal where they're showing; of course, they're never guaranteed, etc., but it's a decent shot. Here's a chart that shows where you can find Goofy:

As for the cake, I'd start with the cake hotline:

and the cake thread here on the Dis:

As for getting him involved, have him check out Buzz's excellent CSR site if he's not already done so:

It's enough to get you excited the trip just for the resort alone. ;)

One thing we did that was really special was to have my husband be the Veteran of the Day in the Magic Kingdom. Basically, he helped with taking down & folding the flag, had some great photo ops, a certificate and a special Veteran of the Day trading pin (which of course, we'd never even consider trading). It was a very neat experience that I would highly recommend.

More info is here: http://allears.net/tp/mk/mk_mainstreet.htm

Have fun! :yay:

Thank you for all the information and the links! The parade sounds wonderful.

Again thank you for responding, Have a great day!!

We ordered a cake for my sisters birthday and had it brought to us during dinner. They did a beautiful print of mickey and minnie on it. You can have any charater.
the number is 407-wdw-dine

they were so helpful and great. You can do a cake for any occasion. They will add it to you reservation. We just asked when we checked in that night for dinner to ensure the cake was there.

As for meeting Goofy there are a few places where you can see him-
Meals- Chef Mickey, Cape May (Breakfast)
Mickey's Toontown in the Judges tent he is also there.

Have a great trip and say Thank you to your DH for serving our nation.

My husband LOVED the Chef Mickey! The food, the characters made afuss with him, He got Chip and Dale with their paw across hsi shoulders and a huge grin on DH.
Nothing like making a Big boy feel like a kid again!

Does he enjoy trains? Disney has a tour of the 4 they have before the park opens, I know my 35 year old son went batty over the Train triva for Disney and to ride them. Even if it is something he is doing alone, it is something that takes him back to Christmas mornings and good tuimes.

Eat an icecream on Main St. let him and the sons get a haircut at the Main St Barber shop!

It may sound silly, but let him enjoy Disney through the eyes of your boys. What things will they love? Buy them the same shirt, Let him pick out from three types.
The way to cleanse the soul of the past few years is to fill it with so many cherished cool new memories.
There may be a tendency to keep going and hurry, but stop and smell the roses,

Thanks!!! I have not been able to get into Chef Mickeys Yet!! I call everyday LOL I did buy the boys matching goofy shirts and got one for DH. He does not know but I am sure he will love it =) The train thing sounds GREAT. DH is a 30 year old trapped in a 10 year old mind set when it comes to Disney, trains, boats... trains.. LOL
Thank you !!!!!

Maybe it is me, but my husband would prefer a group activity over a cake. some quiet time with the family, and hopefully some quiet time with me.

Just my opinion. Have a great trip.

You could contact memoriesbybetsy and have a Goofy themed basket delivered to your room. I did one for my DH for our anniversary and he loved it. Just another thought for you. God bless you and your family and thank your DH for his service.

:confused3
I will get him a cake because it's one of those small simple things that he misses. The cake will be done in our hotel room, lounging around catching up and just being together.

Thanks for your opinion

Thank you for gift basket idea and the support!! I will look into that. Is there a website? That would be a good gift from our boys to dad!
