Making Her Wishes Come True: Surprise Proposal Trip!

That's awesome!! Everything I've read/heard/seen about 'Ohana really makes me excited to eat there for our trip. Especially since it will be our first night with Wishes right after. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

I can't wait to try it. Our reservation is at 8 and we have a relaxing day planned for the following day so it worked out perfect!

That's definitely an interesting talk to have right before you leave for Disney. Has he given you any other reason to believe it might happen on your trip?

See here's where men and women's brains work differently. I think he's given me tons of reasons why he would but he probably hasn't :rotfl: I know he's been looking at rings and he wants it to be a total surprise which makes me think its not going t be at disney because I'd be expecting it. I'm not sure. I'm just going to roll with the punches and if it happens at Disney ill be stoked. If not then ill just be twiddling my thumbs until it happens

I've got bad news. We may be cancelling this trip due to her schooling.

She is trying to talk me into shortening it to make it easier for her to miss classes but I just can't see myself doing it. At this point for me it's pretty much all or nothing, so we're most likely going to end up with nothing. :sad1:

If its truly important to you it may be time to drop some hints on why this trip is important. If she thinks its just a trip for the heck of it I can see why she might be a tad reluctant to miss a week of school.

Knowing that there is more to this trip then Hey lets go have fun might make the difference for her.

Also see what you can do to help her school work not feel so daunting. This far out its easy to get overwhelmed at the task ahead.

Good Luck!

Oh no! I agree with grace. Tell her that this is really important to you. That it would be a nice vacation for you two alone.

When does her schooling start? Because it will only be the 2nd week of sept. maybe she can get stuff from the school that will keep her from missing much.

I think you should really stress that vacation is a good thing. Maybe you should start dropping hints. Do something that will get her excited to be going.

I don't know if the 45 days out cancelation fee applys to you because you booked through someone else but that's something to think about as well. Since its coming up

That's the thing, she already knows that this is a proposal trip. She got an email back from her teacher basically saying "That's fine, thanks for letting me know, remind me when it's time so we can get you squared away." So, her school is fine with it. My job will be to make sure SHE is ok with it now. I'm going to be making sure we get her books ordered and helping her study from now until it's time to go on the trip so that she will feel like she deserves the break.

At this point the cancellation fee is the least of my worries, but I think we will be ok.

Thats good that her school is ok with it. Do you think it will be easier to make her ok with the trip now that school is ok?

I agree with getting everything together before school/trip comes that way her mind is at ease before/during this trip.

I completely understand her worries, as long as she stress less about it the better chances are that she will slowly be ok with this trip!

I hope everything works out the best it can!pixiedust:

I definitely think it is going to be easier now that school has given the OK. I just have to make sure over these next few weeks that we focus on school so that I can be sure that she has no problem missing that week of classes.

Alright everyone. As it turns out it doesn't look like I was going to be able to convince her to skip a whole week of school. I think we have come to a decent compromise however. She is going to go to school that Monday :rolleyes1 because she can get in a lab and most of her class stuff that day. Then, she will be driving down Monday night and we will be leaving Monday night and driving through the night and getting to Disney Tuesday morning. What does this mean!?!?!?! Glad you asked.

Obviously proposing on Monday is no longer going to happen. It also means I lost my 'Ohana reservation for that night. I have decided that it's too late in the game to be changing our park days all around to make the proposal happen on the first day of the trip, so it's been moved, to Friday. When we arrive on Tuesday we're going to skip Epcot and go straight to Magic Kingdom as that park will be mostly dead and we should be able to get in a lot (Still eating at BOG that night). Then on Wednesday we're going to stick with our Hollywood Studios day (Still eating at Jiko). Thursday will be our main Epcot day and we may still do EMH at MK depending on how much we get done Tuesday (Still eating at Via Napoli).

FRIDAY! - This has become an Animal Kingdom day. They have EMH so the plan to get there early and do Everest before our Wild Africa Trek is still in full force. I was able to successfully move our reservations to Friday and still keep the same time! After spending all day in Animal Kingdom we have reservations at Kona Cafe so that we can still go out on the Poly Beach and watch some fireworks after (and get that Lapu Lapu). I'm still going to try and get us 'Ohana reservations for that night, but it's going to be tough.

Saturday is no longer just a drive home day either! This has been amended and we WILL be going into the parks this day for at least some of this day if not all of it. Which will make for a really long night driving home :drive: :drinking1 but it will totally be worth it.

So, we're losing maybe a day or a half day in park time, but we're shortening the trip by a couple days and I had to change the proposal date.

Not too bad. Glad to hear that you were able to make compromises. At least you have time to make things work with the switch up.

It's just rough because as you can obviously see, I'm a PLANNER. Once I get that plan in my head I like to stick with it an any changes are hard for me to make, VERY HARD. Luckily there weren't any fees to change our plans and the lovely people from Disney who I talked to on the phone were extremely nice and helpful. :worship:

That's excellent that everything worked out. It does suck changing things. I'm the same way, once I have an idea in my head that's how it's going to be!

Keep trying for that Ohana ressie. I was able to get one!

I'm glad you were able to keep your original proposal plan and this means we will be at AK on the same day!!! Maybe we will run into each other.

It's good you guys can compromise on this!! :)

I'm sorry you had to change the plans you worked so hard making just right. I'm glad you were able to move the Trek and get the same time. Maybe if you keep trying you can get an 'Ohana, but since it's a party night it may be hard to.

Yea I'll keep trying and checking the Dis Boards to see if anyone is cancelling so we can coordinate so I can get it.

I'm glad we came to a working compromise as well, I was just worried all of my plans would be gashed. I'm just happy they are mostly intact.

To be honest I thought it would be an easier reservation to get on a party night since most people would be in the park for the party. But now that I think about it most people will be leaving the park and looking for a place to eat....

I love reading trip reports when I'm planning my next trip to the world. This one caught my eye, so I read through today. I think I actually gasped at your recent post about possibly having to cancel. Was so relieved to read how you worked things out.

And I have to applaud your plans for proposing. My husband (whom I love beyond measure) casually said, "you thought about getting married?" when I came back to the house after a run in August. Nasty sweaty and gross. I said, "sure" thinking this was a purely hypothetical discussion. Then he pulled the ring out of his pocket.

Good call on Captain Eo, by the way. I'm old enough to remember when it was the new thing at Disneyland. Isn't there anything else they could do with that space?

Wow! Thank you for taking the time to read through this whole thing!

Thank you for saying my plan is good, I really wanted it to be something extra special that we both will remember for a long time and every trip we take back to Disney.

Yea, I saw Captain EO a few years ago simply out of the novelty of it and it was a complete waste of time unfortunately.

Glad you were able to reach a compromise to still make the trip happen! I think when she sees what's in store for her, she'll be glad too! :goodvibes

It's great that you were able to change everything around pretty seamlessly and that Disney was nice and easy to work with!

I agree. I was having a minor freakout thinking I was going to lose most of my reservations, get charged for moving my check in date, etc. Now that I have everything worked out and I was able to save most of it, I'm very happy and now Hannah has gone from being extremely nervous about missing school, to being happy about going on a trip with me. She is seemingly not worried at all and 100% behind the trip. :thumbsup2

We are down to 42 days now. Seems like it should go by quickly since I began my countdown at somewhere around 180! I'm so ready just to have a vacation off from work, not to mention a trip to Disney and the proposal! :goodvibes

Wow, some big updates while I was out of town!!! So glad that everything worked out and your trip is still a "go." Time will start racing by now, trust me. :woohoo:

I sure hope you're right. I hope your trip went well!

You know what would make my wait go faster? Having a TR to follow along to. ;) :thumbsup2

40 days!!!! It's amazing how things work out in the end. It will be an amazing time regardless how many days you are there! I went last July for 3 days and had the time of my life.

Really hope we run into each other! I might be wearing a "just engaged" pin as well!!!
