Sorry, as a non-traditional student with kids I look at a schedule like
During winter break, I'm taking Human S*xuality (it meets from 9 AM until 2 PM every day except Sundays and New Year's Day from December 28th until January 9th)....Then during the semester, I'm taking: Statistics, Personality and Behavior of African-Americans, Sociology of Racism, Intro to Stage Performance, and World Regions.
and don't see this leading to a career that will have you supporting 2 kids. I am a physical therapy major,
Here is a sample schedule: Biology2, Chem2, Human Anatomy, Physics (this is my elective) By eliminating the fun classes, using electives to fit in with my major, not taking vacations, I can graduate much sooner. Also, by choosing a major like PT, I know I will have a job that will pay for my kids college education and help me to keep a roof over my head. It didn't have to be PT. I could have gone into nursing and considered it. This is why I know about the LPN route to nursing. Or if the science was too tough, I could have done something in education or business or computers. I am not 18 and I want a career so I had to talk very specifically with my advisor. I told him I want a degree where I know I will have work. I also planned my schedule leaving me time to work. I substitute teach, so I go to school 2 very long days and teach the other three. This leaves me the teaching day/afternoons to be home with my kids and my weekends free. As I get further along in my degree this gets more difficult. If I didn't have my dh's income I definitely would not have been able to choose this degree. Nursing would have been better.
As for LPN/nursing degree, all you need to do is walk into the local unemployment/career office for help. Or you go to the local hospital's education department.
How is intro to stage performance going to help you get your kids back? or sociology or racism?
I have a dd who is a college freshman. I shake my head when she takes a class like this, but 18yo's need to do some self-exploration.
