Major Heat Wave for the Northeast'

So 95F today, and 97F tomorrow. That might not seem that hot to folks down south, but for here, where we sometimes have one or two >90F days per year, it's oppressive.

No, believe me, that's hot even for those of us born & bred in the Deep South. I feel for ya'll. At least down in Georgia most people have A/C and all of our public buildings have it.

It's the heat AND the humidity...

It was in the high 90s when we were in Washington DC on the 4th of July, and 100 today. Ugh.

Now that we are back home it's supposed to be 100 again. It's hotter here than it was in Florida last week.

And our central AC isn't working. :scared1:

We just spent $200 on a de-humidifer because all of the mold I spent all winter killing just magically reappeared thanks to this weather.

For the past couple of weeks, I've spent almost every moment online looking up houses with Central A/C and swimming pools. Hopefully we can move soon! I can't take this much longeR!

There is definitely a big difference between the heat in the southwest and the heat in the northeast. I lived for years in the Mid-Atlantic and New England, and when temps rise into the 90s, it is miserable. The humidity is horrible and the majority of people in New England do not have central air conditioning. Fortunately, most of the summer remains in the 70s and 80s.

We have been in Arizona for two years now and it is HOT in the summers, but 100+ temps here are much more tolerable than 100+ temps in New England. There is no humidity and, like you said, it does cool down at night. And every place has air conditioning. HOWEVER, the heat lasts A LOT longer here. No humidity, but the sun is relentless!

We are still adjusting to the southern Arizona summers.:scared: It's easy to pick out the native Tucsonans. They're the ones out jogging and riding bikes in the heat. Temps in the 100s is ho-hum to them.:rotfl:

I've spent summers in Phoenix and Needles, CA in the past. I remember the misters everywhere. Yes, it gets hot (in the one-teens and 120s for a month that I was in Needles)! Couldn't even walk barefoot outside at night because the pavement was still blistering hot.

I love New Mexico weather. We fried an egg on the dash (in a frying pan) in our old car in early June when we had a short heat wave with temps above 100 degrees. It really worked!

We actually run swamp coolers here where we have to add humidity to the system (and people use humidifiers in the winter because everything is so dry with the heaters on). The coolers are hooked up to a water supply where a tube carries the water to the pads in the swamp cooler. The damp pads cool the air that enters the house. It works great with low humidity, but when we do get wet systems that come through, the swamp cooler is not very effective. Luckily that isn't too often.

Not looking forward to today...the humidity is already so gross. I feel for my DD she works in the kitchen of a seafood restaurant...it's gonna be brutal. Hopefully there will be a sea breeze and she can step out for some relief

Trying to get out the door so I can get my walk in before it gets hotter. Not looking forward to sweating my buns off; unless I really can sweat them off then that would be really AWESOME! ;)

Yesterday was hot hot hot here in central NH - my weather station said it was 102.7 outside - I have never seen 3 digits on the display before!! I didn't even go outside - stayed in my pj's all day :rotfl:

It was so hot here also yesterday- triple digits also. I was actually glad to go to work today- nobody's home in my house- so I turned the thermostat down- at least at work somebody else is paying for me to stay cool. :thumbsup2

We saw triple digits here yesterday. I LOVED it, only because there was no humidity. We spent the day in and out of the pool. And as long as you were in the shade, it was comfortable. DH and I kept saying how we wished Disney was built in the desert because the heat without humidity is great.

Its supposed to be 98 here, with a heat index of 103. With the air quality alert we will be staying in the pool or the house with the AC. I'll check on my elderly neighbor, she doesn't have AC so I'm hoping she is going to her dd's house.

I can't stand this heat, and being pregnant makes it all the more terrible! I cannot wait for the fall! The heat index is supposed to be around 105-110 today. Guess who will not be outside for more than 5 mintues all day?

Come to Maine...it's a wonderful place to live(even in the winter) It's days like these that we dream about in February;)Mid coast Maine is the coolest place to be they said on the news tonight. Humidity is supposed to be crazy high tomorrow...not really looking forward to that:sad2:But after all it is Maine and you don't have to wait too long for the weather to change.

We are looking into buying a seasonal park model if we can trade in our motorhome or buying a site for our motorhome. I would prefer a condo, but you can't trade in an RV for that!

Heh heh, it's actually not so bad having to be back to work after the long weekend. I sit about 3 feet from an AC, and my office is in the top floor of an old victorian building that gets soooooo hot in the summer! :scared: The wonderful landlord/caretaker came over this morning and turned on the AC's in the building, so it was pretty nice when we got in. However... I have to go out on my lunch break, so that'll be a sweaty hour for me!

I feel bad for my hubby...he works for the phone company. OUTDOORS in long pants all day!!! Says he feels like he's suffocating. I sent our misting fan:sunny: that we took along on our Disney trip last year. Bet he looks silly using it!!! Bet he's glad he took it. It's supposed to be 100 and HUMID here.:scared:

I wentout for lunch and my car said 104! When I first got in it was 109 then settled in, as usual, with the correct temp.

Fall! Fall! Fall!

That's my mantra from June through August. Days like yesterday and today where the thermometer is past 95 by 10:00am just reinforce my love for the Harvest time.

How anyone can enjoy 100 degrees + 100% humidity is beyond me. :confused3

Of course I've lived with it my whole life, so I guess I'm the dumb one. :rotfl:

Its 101 here today and I am tired of it! My 3 kids are in the pool alone with 4 of my 12 yo DS's friends. MY DH and one of the fathers are outside too.I don't know how they are not in the pool. I'm trying to stay cool inside but I have the AC on 77 and it's hot in here. I'm so afraid of a blackout, 3600 people in my city have no power today. I couldn't wait for warm weather to get here but I just want 80's!!

"Heat" during the summer is one thing - this is... Well - I don't even know what to call it.. It's almost 8:30 pm - temp is 89 degrees - heat index is 101 degrees - and the dew point is 79!!!! I think that's the highest dew point I've ever seen up here..

Even without breathing issues, right now it's just not possible to breathe outside for more than a few minutes.. Thank goodness my a/c is working (as best it can under these conditions) and I still have power.. I've been hearing about areas that have lost their power and I can't imagine what the heck they're doing..

Anyone who is missing the heat and wishing for it? Feel free to come on up and take this sauna back to wherever you are..:headache:
