Main Street Bakery closing at WDW

How do you know?
Personally, I think the hysterics and criticism is well justified. Disney does have a history of laying so rather large eggs. Can anyone say the mess that is now DTD?

Now the reality is that there isn't a darn thing I can do about it but sorry there is nothing magical or special about starbucks. I for one was glad they got rid of Mcdonalds in both Ak and DTD.

LOL. I'm waiting for the monorail and disney buses to start selling advertising space.

There has been advertising on the busses for years and isn't one of the monorails completely decked on for the movie Tron?

To me, the difference between having McDonalds in the back of AK or at the International Showcase in Epcot, and Starbucks on Main Street is what Main Street is supposed to be. It's a throwback to an earlier era, the small towns that Walt remembered. Starbucks was never part of that. I do hope they will keep the theming, and not add a huge Starbucks logo. (I'd have no problem if they put it in Future World or even Fantasyland.)

Main Street Bakery has Nestle branding on its sign, Casey's has Coke, and the Town Square Theatre has Kodak.

Last time I was there the monorail was all done up for Avengers. People loved it and were taking pictures (myself included).

What I think they need to do is bring a Tim Hortons to Canada in EPCOT. We all know that Tim's is like crack, just think of the money they'd be racking in with that one, heck with Starbucks. Around here I think Tim's has Starbucks beat.

Reading this has made me thirsty, I'm putting the kettle on, coffee and cake anyone?:coffee:

Just had some-Keurig Donut Shop and sock it to me cake.

All of these brands were around at the turn of the 20th century so they fit the Main St theme.

That is such a shame! Eating there is one of family traditions..we are definitely going to miss it!!

Wow..voice of reason. :thumbsup2 Why get so up in arms over something before you even see the final result?

And with that said I have been to WDW many times and I have never walked into the bakery, I'm not even sure I know where it is on Main Street since I usually just walk down it to get to other areas of the park. I do know my kids will be thrilled with being able to get their Starbucks fix on site rather than driving off property to get it.

Oops forgot this is the dis, where if you think some thing is a terrible idea you're not allowed to express your opinion. Silly me.

Who's getting "up in arms". We simply like MSB the way it is and are concerned (not like disney never laid an egg, bring back captain eo comes to mind) that it will change the character of some thing we love.

Or are we not allowed to say we don't like some thing disney does? So I guess by your logic I'm "unreasonable" because I dont thing some things a good idea.

got it.

I'm guessing you haven't read any of the threads on the theme park board (or budget board, restaurant board, etc). There are LOTS of people "up in arms". :rotfl:I would even venture to say some of them border on hysterics.

After the first few pages I'm usually outta there. that's usually when you're told that if you don't tow the dis line it can get real ugly for you.

Anyhoo, the most I've read in this thread is disappointment and a concern, which imo is a totally normal reaction.
Op, said she was "bummed" so I guess that could be construed to be "up in arms", who knows. I did see a thread about a petition but didn't read that one. some one else said they thought it was "sad". I think I said I thought the idea "sucked".

LOL. you guys must live in real quiet neighborhoods if you think "sad, sucked and bummed" means you're getting up in arms.

.

So like I said it's not like the mouse world has never laid an egg before. I'm still waiting for the "magical" transformation of Pleasure island.

You expressed yours and I expressed mine, sorry that you do not agree and do not think I should do so...oh that is right, you can only express your opinion if it agrees with the majority.

I do think some of the comments I've read here and elsewhere are extreme. No one knows what it is going to look like, what they are going to carry etc, and people are talking about canceling trips and how Walt would never do this. How do they all know what Walt would do? He was in business to make money.

I'm just not seeing this as a bad thing. I'm thinking it's still going to look the same on the outside and maybe on the inside, but they'll be carrying Starbucks coffee and stuff. Disney is not stupid, they are not going to change the whole look of Main Street by throwing in a Starbucks designed like it was in a strip Mall in and big city.

Like I said I have never been in there and I won't go in there when it gets turned into a Starbucks branded storefront instead of a Nestle branded one. I can't even picture where on Main Street it is located since I don't go into any of the buildings there anymore, haven't done that since our first 2 or 3 trips. Now I just walk down the middle of the street and get to the rides.

I guess if you have never been in the bakery, and don't share an affection for it, it would be difficult to understand the concern.

I love the Main Street Bakery. And even after being inside DCA's Starbucks (Fidler, Fifer & Practical Cafe), I am concerned. Yes, that location is very well done, and outside architecture definitely fits the street. However, inside the cafe, you can find all of the other offerings in any other Starbucks, complete with Starbucks menu boards and mermaid insignia all over the place.

No question the classic charm of the bakery will be lost, however minimal the blending of the Starbucks brand.

But people are complaining they don't want Main Street ruined with sponsors yet they have been there for years. You can't have it both ways

I guess all I really can do is wait and see how this pans out. No use in getting upset over something that hasn't taken effect just yet. It is a bummer that they are converting the bakery to a Starbucks. Just hope they combine the traditional/old with the new. *crosses fingers*

My only hope is that they don't make it a huge sign on Main Street...I would like the look to remain one of a small town main street...in Walt's era. A huge Starbucks sign would destroy that.

and I hate Starbucks coffee....wish they would have opted for Caribou. So that's my only real complaint ;)

Love Caribou coffee:coffee:
Just saw Starbucks is also taking over Fountain View in Epcot as well. I hope they leave Starring Rolls as is.

I was so sad! When we have a MK day, we always grab breakfast from the Bakery! I love me some Starbucks, but their baked goods aren't all that wonderful--I'll miss my cheese danish and giant cinnamon roll fixins.

Based on a response to one of the comments on the Disney Parks blog you will most likely will still be able to get the cheese danish and cinnamon roll.

Oh no, I love the Main Street Bakery. We always stop by there get some kind of sweet treat. The big chocolate chip cookies they have are the best!
