Magical or Commercialism

Magic isn't cheap. It never has been.
There's always a price, right!? ;) pixiedust:

OP - to me, it's still magical. I recognize Disney is a corporation with a bottom line to think about. I don't think twice about it and just enjoy my trip - sometimes I even pay more for certain things because I want to and that's the beauty of capitalism!

It has definitely changed over the years, but for me, I think it has changed in a good way. The price always goes up - it always will (basic supply and demand). There are more experiences available now than when I was a kid. The Jedi Training Academy, the Pirate Show with Jack Sparrow at the Magic Kingdom, etc. are all included with the price and didn't exist when I was a kid. My boys absolutely love these shows and it is absolutely magical to them. You can also customize and tailor your vacation - eat at a sit-down restaurant or quick-service, stay at a deluxe hotel onsite, a value hotel onsite, or a hotel off-site, etc. We don't go very often as we can't afford it, but when we do go we really enjoy it because there are always new experiences. This time, we have Pandora to explore (excited about that) and the new FEA ride has been added, a new Mission Space film, Soarin' Over the World has changed, etc. - so we are always excited to see the new things while cherishing the nostalgic experiences.

It's a publicly traded company, accountable to its shareholders. And ESPN is not helping the company right now.
Agree that Disney is a public company and its shareholders expect it to turn a profit. I'm a shareholder and am all for that. Its difficult to know however if ESPN is currently contributing to their profit because Disney's media group results are aggregated. It may be that ESPN still is profitable, just not as much as it has been in the past.

I don't define magic as raising ticket prices 35-57% since 2009 just because you can. Inflation has been just 14%.
But new rides and attractions don't just magically appear. If ticket prices stay even with the inflation rate, then everything in the parks would also have to stay static. What's magical about that?
