hi,
we're going to disney in august and i've always had it drilled into me head by my dad that luggage will be lost, and that i should alays take control of it as much as i can. so, using the magical express, have many people experienced lost luggage?

We go to WDW every year and have used the ME since it started and have not had any problems with it.

the airline is far more likely to lose it than DME is. on that token, if that rare case does happen, DME causes you to learn about it much later than you should.

But the good thing is DME will act on your behalf to search for it with the airline so your not doing so starting your vacation.

Just remember to keep your tag stubs handy and safe .

DME is bar coded so they can find it if it was pulled very easy in most cases.

We have never had a problem and have used it a few times now.

used them both coming and going last year on AA and had no problems at all. I was worried about it before I used them for the first time last year too so you are not alone. I heard a few people worrying back at Ohare wondering if their luggage would come out on the luggage carousel or not but everyones showed up. I will use them again this year because it is just so convenient. I am thinking about boxing up some water and snacks and checking it in as luggage this year too.

HTH,
Ang

There is certainly no "trend" of DME losing luggage. In fact, I think in the 2 years DME has been around, we've read maybe one experience of that here. ONE. In two years.

DME has served 3 or 4 million people or so. If there were luggage problems, we'd be hearing about it.

The DME luggage tags have barcodes. Those barcodes are scanned 5 separate times along the way from airport to resort room. Disney knows where your luggage is. And if they never get it from the airline, they'll go looking for it, on your behalf.

And yet another vote for not worrying about luggage getting lost with DME. You are more likely, by far, to have an issue with the airline itself losing your bags....not DME. The worst they could do is misdirect the bags to a different resort. And that's very easily remedied. Let Disney handle your bags, pack a carryon with whatever you will need for the first 6 hrs...then, go off and have a terrific time in WDW!!!

Quit worrying about your luggage. Don't you have kids to worry about? I would concentrate on them and leave the luggaging to Disney and Orlando International Airport. The way you are going you will have grey hair by the time you are 30.

And yet, you don't eliminate or even mitigate the potential for the airline to lose your luggage by using DME. Therefore, the potential for DME to lose (or misdirect) your luggage is in addition to any risks that you have with the airlines. That said, it's a small risk and I think the added convenience outweighs the increased risk.

If DME had any history of losing luggage, believe me, you'd have read about it on these boards by now! :lmao: The absence of complaints should be enough to reassure you.:rotfl:
Relax, tag that luggage, and enjoy your magical vacation!:goodvibes

Yellow, bar coded, tagged luggage normally gets pulled on the tarmac. Those bags rarely show up on the luggage carousel.

Guests using DME are avoiding, the small, risk of someone stealing your bag from the carousel. The extra risk from using DME for luggage delivery is near zero.

BUt what happens if the airlines lose your luggage and you are using DME?

If you were getting the luggage yourself, you would see that it didn't come off the plane, go to the airline office, fill our a form describing your luggage, etc.

But if your using DME, and your luggage is lost.... DME knows it doesn't have your stuff, but it doesn't know what it looks like. Do they fill out a lost luggage form? Do they contact you to get a description? Do you even know its lost, or do you just end up not having your luggage many hours later and thinking that DME is not doing their job? Has anyone had experience with this?

DME knows how many bags you checked with your airline (they ask you when you check-in at the airport). If they all don't show up in the system, DME goes looking for them.

SPECULATION: It's probably happened lots of times before ... and when people received their luggage 12 hours later, they yell about how slow the DME luggage delivery was, but it just as well could have been the airline that accidentally sent it to MCI instead of MCO, and then it had to take the time to get flown back to MCO and so on ....

thanks for all the replies, i feel much better about it now. will defidently be checking our bags with them!
