Magical EBTA 2017

Hello Fellow Cruisers!
I’m really excited to see so much interest in starting a Fish Extender Exchange for our cruise! For anyone who may be new to Fish Extender Exchanges, here's my best explanation:

Beside every cabin door is a large silver fish with an indentation in the back (mail slot) for cruise personnel to leave information, invitations, etc. DISboarders have taken the silver fish one step further... by creating hanging pockets (much like cloth letter holders) to hang from the fish - thus the name, "Fish Extender". Fish Extenders (FEs) can be made of practically anything (cloth, plastic, paper gift bags, etc.), as long as they have at least one pocket that can hold surprises. My first FE was just a medium-sized canvas bag purchased from a local craft store. A Google Image search of “fish extenders” will show dozens of unique styles!

Each "Cruise Meets" thread organizes their own little gift exchange. Some exchanges are set up with a lot of requirements, but I like to make it as easy and fun as possible. I always leave it up to the giver to decide what to give and when to pass it out during the cruise. Some people decide to give one surprise per family, some people like to give a little gift to each person in the cabin.

There are several DIS Boards threads that discuss ideas for FE gifts. Some gifts are from Dollar Stores, some are handmade, and some are bought in bulk from websites that sell trinkets like the Oriental Trading Company. Often, they are stickers, candy, glow sticks, lanyards, luggage tags, magnets, mugs, frames, etc., with themes such as pirates, beach, cruise, tropical, hometown, holiday, etc. The main idea is just to have fun finding little goodies in your FE throughout the cruise. Kids LOVE running back to their cabin to see if anything's been left in their FE. As an adult, I have to admit that I really love it, too!!!

I want everyone to feel comfortable with the number of cabins you’ll be exchanging with. I’ve participated in exchanges that had only 4 cabins participating on a 3-night cruise, all the way up to over 80 participating cabins on the longer cruises! Currently, it looks like there are 7 cruisers who want to join in on the fun and I expect that number will grow quite a bit! So, I’ll break the groups down to a choice of 10 in your FE group, 20 in your FE group, or “Sky’s the Limit” for those of us who believe the more the merrier!

The deadline to join this Fish Extender Exchange will be Saturday, April 15, 2017, to give everyone time to get their FE gifts prepared and packed. I will send all participants a Private Message (PM) through the DIS Boards on Sunday, April 16, with your FE group information. You'll need to print that final list of participants and pack it with your gifts so you'll know where to deliver them once you're onboard the ship.

To join the FE Exchange, please send me (Deb T.) a “Private Message” with the following information:
*Your Cabin Number
*Names of everyone in your cabin
*Ages of children
*Any allergy considerations
*The size of the FE group you want to be in: “No more than 10,” “No more than 20,” or “Sky’s the Limit.”

Thank you. Penny's cancer is headed into remission, but we do not know when/if it will come back. We are hoping for the best and making plans like we will live forever. We leave early next month for the last Med and then are taking the Magic back from Barcelona to New York. Very excited.
Enjoy! Those cruises sound wonderful.

DCL is different in one respect, we have Fish Extenders, and people leave each other surprises in them if you sign up to be in a group. I'm organizing a Local Candy/Snack exchange, and the first one I ever participated in was on our first TA cruise in 2013. We enjoyed it so much that I have organized one on every DCL cruise I've been on since. Once there were only 3 cabins participating, the most was on last year's DVC Member cruise, we had 32 cabins participating, and I divided us into 4 groups of 8, so no one had a sugar overload.

There are mixology groups, sometimes Secret Mickeys, meetings for meals (There's going to be a breakfast meet for my upcoming Dream Sept 5th cruise) and scrapbooking and more. Someone is organizing a Trick or Treat Halloween event for next year's EBPC cruise. Read this, and join whatever appeals to you, and if there's something you don't see, but want to try mention it.

I hope we have a smooth crossing, the one in 2013, our first was great!

Bobbi
Thanks!!
I do like to scrapbook so that might be fun to do on board and perhaps some mixology group. Have never been on such a long cruise especially by myself so not sure what to expect!

This will be daisy my service dog's second disney cruise, her first was the mexican cruise, we stayed on the boat. Anybody else travel with their service dog? Daisy is my medical response/mobility dog.

I don't have a service dog but there is a cute video showing a service dog having a "play date" with Pluto on board one of the DCL ships. Really cute! See ya on board next May!

What a cute video!

9 months from today!!!! :yay: How is everyone's planning coming along?

I just ordered a "world map" from AAA to put up in our cabin to highlight our itinerary and all the time zones we'll go through. :boat: We did this for our last two cruises and really enjoyed "charting" our course by comparing it to the map on the cabin television.

DH had to renew his passport and it just arrived. Yay!

We still don't have our air booked for either leg of the trip. Southwest is currently only booking into April. I'm also keeping an eye on flights out of CPH and am waiting for them to drop a little. We just booked a rental car to get to Port Canaveral.

I'm going to work on magnets for our cabin door this weekend. I like to get things done early because it seems the last four weeks before a big cruise are very busy and go by quickly!

Can't wait to see you all onboard! :goodvibes

GOOD MORNIN FOLKS

Sooooo, looks like we're about the only ones onboard who haven't done a Transatlantic yet. :rotfl: Please tell me, :worship: Oh Experienced Ones, just how cold does it get during the eastbound TA and when does the colder weather typically start during the cruise? DH is convinced we'll be in parkas by the first sea day. :rotfl2: I envision tropical weather all 16 days but the realist in me knows better. :upsidedow I'm trying to figure out our wardrobe for the trip. :)

Our EBTA went to Barcelona, so, we don't have experience in Copenhagen in spring. We spent time in Copenhagen in September. 2009, definitely not parka weather. I wore jeans.

Well, on last year's EBTA I got a suburn on the at sea day the day after we left Nova Scotia. Since our route next year is a bit more to the south, I don't think you will need parkas :) A jacket will definitely be used though :)

Thanks so much for your expertise! :disrocks: We've been to Copenhagen twice, both times in July. The first time (2010), they were having a record heat wave. The second time (last summer) it was more seasonal for them - very chilly. We're anticipating chilly days there again in May. :thumbsup2 My hope is that the 6 sea days are sunny and warm. :flower1: Jackets and cozy sweatshirts I can handle. Parkas, definitely not! :lmao: I will let DH know the good news! :goodvibes

Welcome to the cruise and this thread!

I'll organize a "local" candy or snacks exchange. Anyone interested? I'll keep an updated list of interested people here, but will not take cabin numbers or special requests at this time.
I'd love to join this
