There was a lot of chatter that the Magic would receive a "soft" refurb before the NYC sailings were to begin .. did this actually happen?

By soft refurb, I am talking mostly about those old & tired bedspreads and any other easy/quick refresh items ..

Thanks for any updates

The old & tired bedspreads are still there! I did not notice the things people had been mentioning here (cracked bathroom tiles, rust, etc.) although you can tell that she's ready for some updating!

They really need to get rid of the old prehistoric hairdryers. Had I known I would have brought my own. It took me over an hour to dry my hair. Didn't have a problem with the ones on the Dream.

I read that the Magic will go out for a refurbishment in the fall of 2012 after the last NYC cruise in late September. :surfweb:

Nope, she is coming to Texas. Not sure how many days the trip is though but there will be no passengers. She is rumored to have a long (6 week) dry dock fall 2013 after the last Med cruise.

I was wondering if she is going into dry dock in Europe, just based on there not being any westbound transatlantic scheduled yet and her cruise schedule just stops after the Med. cruises.

I hate those old bedspreads. Changing them out would do a lot for the decor.

I carried my favorite Disney quilt onto the ship with me last month. I was soooo not looking at that awful bedspread. We ended up upgrading at the port anyway so at night we had a duvet/comforter anyway but my quilt was right there over our feet, too. I have a serious "thing" when it comes to bedspreads. I loathe those things!

I think that awful carpet in the lobby needs to go. All of my daughter's photos with the characters have that carpet in them. It clashes with everybody! :)

So, the different room categories have different bedding?

Yes. The suites on the Magic and Wonder have duvets instead of the bedspreads. Not sure about the Dream and Fantasy. We were in a suite on the Dream and had a duvet, but I've not seen any of the other rooms (non-Concierge).

I personally think that DCL should order new bed linens for the Magic. She isn't going into drydock for about a year. I would think that would be fairly easy to do with the staff Disney has. i'm not talking new beds just linens

Even in the pictures on the DCL website, the bedding seems dated and worn, especially in contrast to the Dream and Fantasy.

I agree! Those bedspreads are both old and ugly. The cabin stewards change the linens anyway. Can't think it would take much to change them out.

I agree again! You look at the website when you decide which room to book, and then look at how ugly the bedspread makes the room look, and then the prices they charge ...new linens would go a long way to updating the look!

We are going on our first Disney cruise on the Magic in July.

To be honest, I noticed the old bedspreads in photos I looked at and it didn't thrill me.

The bedspreads made me think Days Inn vs. nice white duvets at Marriotts or Hiltons!

The thought of icky bedspreads does freak me out a bit....

It really surprises me for the money a Disney cruise costs that they don't just change out the bedspreads to nice white duvets. It would make all the difference when you walk into the room. I understand that you're not spending much time in the room but the time is spent sleeping and it would be nice to be sleeping under a fluffy comforter instead of an old bedspread.

We were on the final Bahamian cruise (5 night) prior to the NYC sailings. We asked a few CM's what was going to happen while the ship was basically empty, during its journey from Port Canaveral to NYC....all of them said, "we're cleaning the ship".

I agree 100% :thumbsup2

that lobby carpet is ugly... i was on the magic a year ago and the ship had some issues that needed addressing even then!!

I actually miss the old bedspreads. The Wonder got new bedding in March or April 2011. This is what it looks on the Wonder:

We had an inside cabin on our Hawaii cruise, but still had a duvet.
