Magic reburb - did it happen?

..... I book hotels based on the bedspread pictures on line! You can tell so much on how old the room is based on the bedspread style!

:lmao: This is funny. I love photos for reference as much as the next guy, but this technique has backfired a few times for us. Not all properties keep "real time photos" of current existing conditions. Does that stop us from viewing, and making decisions from them? No. However with the photos, reviews, and a few calls, surprisingly, we have done well in our travel accommodations.
Good Luck To All :goodvibes

Oh, also, thank you Disers for confirming why I booked the Fantasy. I will admit it was a tough call. We like "new" , as another Diser described it. So from the reports and reviews, I'm very comfortable with our decision with the Fantasy. Albeit we had to wait longer, but that has only intensified the pre-experience, if there is such a thing.:lmao: Hopefully it will flow through till fruition.

I've always hated those bedspreads. Whenever we've sailed with them, the first thing we do is remove them from the beds and put it away in the cupboard and then tell the stateroom host not to put it on the bed for the duration of the cruise.

Both times we've sailed on the Magic and both times on the Wonder, I've only see the bed spreads when we first go in the room. When our SRA makes up the bed for the first night, we never see the bedspreads again. Don't know where they take them, they aren't in our closet but we never see them again (on 4 different cruises).

As far as wear and tear goes, I always try to remember that these ships sail non-stop between dry dock sessions. With a full load of passengers on almost every trip. It is extremely difficult to keep up with the daily maintenance issues of a running cruise ship much less any type of wear and tear up keep. Its just like going to the parks in high season and seeing full garbage cans or shrubs that need pruning or benches that need to be cleaned and painted. I've never been on any cruise that I haven't seen wear or tear, nor I have I ever been on a cruise that I haven't seen "wet paint" signs about. I'd be willing to bet that there were wear and tear issues on both the Dream and Fantasy right after their maiden voyages.

I am willing to put up w/ small maintenance jobs, but Deck 4 should not have been unusable the majority of the cruise. I feel bad for people who had verandahs on Deck 6. I could hear the noise on Deck 9 when it wasn't too crowded.

We were on the first Canadian cruise as well. It was our first Disney Cruise, but not our first cruise in general. I noticed how worn things were on the ship and our faucet dripped and shower continually had a slow flow of water that couldn't turn off.

The bedspread was put up each night and taken back out each morning by the steward.

We on deck 2 could here the repairs on deck 4 as well.

All in all though, we had a fabulous first DCL and booked our next one onboard.

FROMMERS :

"To stay fresh, cruise lines build not only brand new $500-million-plus ships, but also pump big bucks into refurbishing their existing fleets. Years of corrosive salt water and wind, not to mention constant use, takes its toll. Still, ships are routinely retired from service for the North American market when they're as young as 15 to 20 years old. Considered over-the-hill, they're shifted to a cruise line's Europe- or Asia-based divisions or sold to foreign lines whose clientele isn't as picky about age."

Magic is now 14 ?

Won't travel on a ship this old when there are so many NEW ones.
I will be on the Fantasy this December. My recent Celebrity Silhouette cruise was the most modern and best ship of all my 18 cruises!
Both of the above ships were built at the same time in Germany! :thumbsup2

We just returned from the Inaugural Canadian Cruise and had a Magical time. I must agree that the Magic is overdue for dry dock. Our bed was not very comfortable and DD was very uncomfortable on the sofa bed. The old hairdryers need to be replaced. I wouldn't mind seeing the bedspreads replaced as well.

While we loved our trip recently on the Magic we slept like crap because the matteress were horrible. There was a well worn dip in the middle of each of the twin matteress. The bed might as well have been 2 seperate beds because you could feel the different matteress as one was higher then the other and it was a hard lump between them. I was so tired after the cruise I slept for an entire day.

The bedspreads are awful on the Magic! I hated how the SR host would wrap the pillows around it. We would basically take the whole bedspread off the bed. We hate waking up having the bedspread up near our face, who knows the last time those things were cleaned! YUCK!

These bedspreads are horrible ours was even ripped in a couple of places. I am writting DCL a letter about this issue.

I'm Ok with a little wear and tear. However, the price should be commensurate with upkeep. DCL still charges a hefty premium for the Magic on most itineraries. At the prices they charge, there is no excuse for torn bedspreads and lumpy, crummy mattresses.
