Magic Kingdom Counter Service

We will be going to Disney in just over 2 weeks (OK, 16 days but who's counting! ). There will be me (33), DH (40), DS (2) and MIL (65). We are having dinner at the Crystal Palace one of our nights there and were looking for recommendations on the best counter service restaurants at MK for that day (don't want 2 big meals that day).

Any suggestions? Thanks so much. You guys are great!

if you feel like burgers, then go to Peco's Bill. Great toppings bar for the burgers and I happen to like their chicken wrap.

Columbia Harbour House has good fish/chicken and fries. I haven't been to Pinnochio's Village Haus since the menu was redone but some really like it. You can get ribs/chicken combo at Cosmic Ray's.

Most places also offer salad entrees if you feel like it.

There aren't any. Sorry. Magic Kingdom & MGM are really close as to which one has the worst counter service. The Asian Noodle place use to be good but they reduced the menu, taking off the best items and now its closed most of the time. The Mexican place that was good across from Pirates is closed.

Columbia Harbor house has OK fish and chips. They have also reduced their menu. I hear from people on the Board that the Figaro Fries at Pinochios are pretty good but I haven't tried them.

If you like burgers, Pecos Bills in Frontierland is the best because they have a fixins bar that includes grilled onions and sauteed mushrooms in addition to the regular things.

My opinion would be to have a nice breakfast (cereal, fruit, bagel - something like that, snack in the park and then have your big dinner.

I'm not sophisticated foodie or anything, but I thought the food at Cosmic Ray's was very good! My sis thought the burgers at Pecos Bill's were good. I didn't get to eat here the time we went because I was sick (we had to leave the park soon after she finished eating I felt so bad!).

Personally, I say go for a burger at either place or chicken at CR at lunch , then later get an ice cream cookie sandwich from the Main Street Bakery, or a Mickey Bar or a Dole Whip! That's good eatin'!

Our favorite is Casey's for hot dogs. They have a nice toppings bar with sauerkraut, onions, pickle relish, cheese, etc.

We thought the food was really good & fresh, and the dining room upstairs is very pleasant & a nice "break" from the crowds.

This year, according to our planned schedule so far, we'll possibly have the opportunity to eat at 3 counter-service restaurants in MK. So, in addition to Columbia Harbour House - -

This year, I have plans to also try Pinnochio Village Haus - the menu on allears.net looks good. Plus, my DD's favorite ride is "It's a Small World", so I think she (& DS) would enjoy eating where they can watch the ride.

And, just because lots of people here mention Pecos Bill's, we might try it as well. Either Pecos Bill's or Casey's.

Slightly off-topic, but I have a question regarding Casey's - - I thought I'd read somewhere that you sit in bleachers & can watch old baseball games while you ate inside at Casey's? Is this accurate? What is the inside of Casey's like?

I didn't realize that you could see It's a Small Sorld from Pinochio's Village Haus. How does this work? Are you able to see the inside of the ride from windows or just the outside of the ride?

I'd also like to hear about being able to watch the old ball games at Casey's.

We love Pinocchio! I enjoyed the Cannoli there better than any other dessert I had at any restaurants all week. It was so yummy!

There is only a small area where you are able to see the ride. You see the boat loading area. So you watch people get into their boat until they go into the first room of the actual ride. You can't see any of the actual ride.

At Casey's in the back there is a small grandstand (very small) where you can sit and they have old baseball games playing on a T.V. I'm not sure if its entire games or just highlights as we've never sat there.

My vote is for Pecos Bill! We eat here everytime we are at the MK. It has one of the best fixin' bars.

I only noticed when boarding Small World that some number of tables can overlook the boarding area.

I only noticed when boarding Small World that some number of tables can overlook the boarding area. I'm not sure I'd want to watch people board rides for an hour...but, admittedly, the boarding area there has lots of ornamentation and even the "kooky clock tower."

Ditto, the fried fare is quite good, but the chocolate cake dessert is prepackaged (thawed from frozen, no doubt) and not as good as its counterparts at other CS restaurants, such as at Sunset Ranch Market in MGM/DS.

We were quite disappointed to find the entire second floor closed, due to off-peak season (early Feb), so had to sit in the somewhat dark lower level. Ah well, at least we walked onto every ride in the park!

I agree here as well. COnsidering the popularity of MK, it really has a terrible food selection

Cosmic Rays is good!! I am a vegetarian, and they have an awesome veggie wrap. Everyone else I "drag" into there ends up liking their food!! Give it a try!!

The food at MK, in our opinion, is not terrible. Nowhere as good as Epcot or AK.
If you like soup and salad, Cosmic Rays has a good creamy vegetable soup. Pecos Bills has a yummy chicken salad, has a lime viniagrette with it. Salad was big enough for two to share. Chunks of grilled chicken and jicama slices along with lettuce.

My DH always gets the rotisserie chicken meal with mashed potatoes at Cosmic Rays. Chicken has always been moist. Again, big enough to share.

If El Pirata is open, the tacos are huge and yummy. They also have a big taco salad which I always get.

If none of this appeals to you, at lunchtime Liberty Tree Tavern serves off a menu. They have sandwiches, salads, soups. We are eating there next trip as the menu sounded very appealing.
Check out allearsnet.com for menus and prices. That helps to narrow down choices.
You can always take the monorail to one of the resorts for lunch.
The Contemporary food court has decent selections. Or make an ADR for Kona. Portions are big and just right for sharing.

I'm a big fan of the fish and chicken basket from Columbia Harbor House. Make sure you head to the second floor so nice and quiet. And I actually liked the chocolate cake hard to mess up chocolate for me
