Magic Christmas Cruise 2010 (Dec 18th - 29th) - ***UPDATED - post #411 ***

If there's interest and availability, I'll volunteer to arrange a pre-cruise meet at WDW. We will be there starting Dec 9. If anyone else is visiting WDW before the cruise and wants to do a quick get together, let me know.

Another possibility is a meet in Cape Canaveral for anyone arriving the day before and staying near the port.

I've infiltrated behind enemy lines and I'm gathering valuable intel that will help us on our plan of attack for this cruise.

Ok, really I merely visited the cruise meet thread for the 10-day Holiday Cruise immediately after ours to ask if they had any info about long cruises.

One guy had some experience on a 14-day cruise back in 2005. and here's what he offered:
  • He thought there were two formal nights, but wasn't sure
  • Additional shows included:
    • Susan Egan
    • Muppets
    • Mark Curry (of Hangin with Mr Cooper)
    • Joey Fatone hosting "Who Wants to be a Mousekateer"
  • Daytime entertainment included:
    • Wine education
    • Panama Canal historians (it was a PC Repo cruise)
    • Disney VIPs giving presentations.
  • He was able to get multiple Palo reservations (brunch, tea, and 2 dinners), but he was in concierge, so they handled the ressies for him.
So there are some ideas of what we might expect. Here are some of my thoughts.

I hear mostly that there are either 2 formals and 1 semi, or 1 formal and 2 semis, but it seems consistent that there are 3 "dress up" nights.

I'm thinking prebooking for Palo may be limited to 1 reservation for each service (dinner, brunch, and tea), but that extra bookings would be available on board.

I'll keep digging.

bigAWL - Thanks for your recon! As brunches are days at sea, we have a couple extra of those. I should think they will allow more than one booking, though as you said the second one will probably have to be done on board. With all those extra Palo night's available too, I would think you could get an extra night if you wanted, again, once on board. I'll race you all for a 2nd brunch!! Hopefully it will be easier to book online our 1 brunch/dinner/tea if there are more opportunities for them.

I wish I could work out the rotations, in regards to the extra menus but it just makes my head hurt! I know they have been doing the Golden Mickey's on the 2nd night of 7 night cruises, which is the formal night. I wonder if they will stick with that?

I guess we have 4 extra days of special menu's. Christmas Day is going to be one. I didn't particularly love the menu we had in 2007. But being British, I have a very set dinner in mind for Christmas. Not really the same as American. I have never come to terms with serving mashed potatoes wih turkey!! You would think after 14 years in US, I would have got used to it!

263 days... :cool1:

My Russian princess: is starting to learn who Mickey Mouse is :wizard:

Still processing her paper to get a passport.. :surfweb:

We have been debating on this cruise for sometime. We traditionally cruise over Spring Break but this year we have to be in WDW for Spring Break because DS is participating in Magic Music Days so we can't Cruise (are you feeling sorry for us yet?). We are usually in WDW around Christmas time, so we decided to flip flop and do the cruise over Christmas and WDW at Spring Break.

Our stats:

Me and ds, 15 (then) in 6088
My sis and dd, 18 (then) in 6087.

We may be bringing dd's boyfriend, who will be 17 then, and he would be in 6088 (NOW you are feeling sorry for me, right? :scared1:)

Looking forward to getting to know everyone and learning about the activities planned.

:welcome:

This is a good group. It's been a little quiet lately, but I expect it to pick up in the near future.

Currently we have the following activities:

- Pirate race: Get a post ending in "00". The winner gets bragging rights on the cruise.
- Fish Extender exchange
- Christmas Ornament exchange
- Secret Santa exchange
- Pre-cruise DIS Meet at WDW
- DIS Meet onboard

Did I miss anything???

Can't feel sorry for anyone on the Disney Magic at Christmas time. It is always a beautiful ship but at Christmas time it is even more beautiful. We really love cruising. Our Christmas cruise was awesome but I think our family would agree that our Panama Canal crossing cruise was the best cruise we have had.

Based on our past cruises, I think there will only be one formal night on an 11-night cruise. The 14 or 15 night cruises have two formal nights but I don't think the 11 night will. There will likely be two semi-formal nights.

We are very excited about this cruise and all the planning happening but we have another cruise which leaves in less than 100 days to the Northern European capitals.

Hi All!

I know some of you have cruises before our Christmas cruise, but for the rest of us, I'm looking for a way to get our dismeet board moving again.

How about photo tag???? :confused3

Here's the set-up:

1) One person posts a photo.
2) The photo should be Disney related, but content is entirely up to the poster.
3) Everyone looks at the photo and one person posts a new Disney photo that has one thing in common with the first one.
4) Everyone looks again and someone that has a Disney photo that has something in common with the last photo, posts that photo and is "it" until the next person posts.

Since this is probably as clear as mud, I'll demonstrate:

Person #1 posts:
2008DCL-Jun2CastawayCay020.jpg

Sunrise on the Magic

Person #2 says, that photo has flags and posts:
2007Jun-France-1022.jpg

Main Street at Disneyland Paris

Person #3 says, that photo has the Disney castle and posts:
2009-DCLJul22StThomas-StJohn088.jpg

Sand Castle St. John from Eastern Magic cruise

Person #4 says, that photo has sand and posts:
2008DCL-Jun2CastawayCay108.jpg

Baby on Castaway Cay

etc. etc. etc.

We can make it simple or hard depending on which obscure/simple/complicated photos are posted. This can be a fun way to get into the Disney mood, get to know your fellow shipmates, learn about Disney attractions that you never saw before, etc.

So I'll take a leap and assume that there is interest in doing this and post the first picture:

2007Jun-France-1024.jpg

This is one of my favorite Disney photos - After closing hours, after a rain storm, walking out of Disneyland Paris with a Minnie balloon. Caitie was five.

This sounds very interesting. I am not sure I know how to post a picture on here. I am not signed up with any online photo site and don't really want to. Any suggestions?

I use Photobucket.com. I don't know of any easier way to post photos to chat boards. The site is password-protected and automatically resizes your photos, etc. and gives you the code to post. There are some other sites, but this was the one I was told was easiest to use.

Looks like the DIS can host your photos. I've never tried it, but here someone posted something that might help....

The picture must be stored on the internet first. You don't have to design a website, just upload your photo to a site. We have a free photo storage site right here on the DIS.

The DIS Photo Gallery

You'll log in there using the same name and password you use on the DIS. After you log in, click on the upload photos button and follow the instructions.

After you've uploaded your photo, click on your photo so that it opens in a new window. Right click on the photo, click on properties, then highlight and copy the URL. It should look something like this:

sorry to crash yourthread - but I have just been on the DCL site looking at current prices (I was originally booked on 'your' cruise, but switched to the 7 night Wonder) and although the itinerary is still showing as the same, the cruise map is showing that the boat is going to St Lucia.:confused3

Can I just check whether there have been any alterations to your itinerary?? (One of the main reasons I swapped was because I had been hoping for Antigua or St Lucia and wasn't too excited about the other ports) - but if St Lucia is now on the cards....well, I would have some thinking to do!!!:thumbsup2

Other than that map, I've not seen St Lucia listed on any itinerary for this cruise. My assumption is that they created the map with a certain itinerary in mind, and it quickly changed. But they chose not to change the map. Of course, theorectically the itinerary can change at any time - even while on the cruise. But I certainly wouldn't count on St Lucia at this time.

EDIT: I just realized you are the originator of this thread, and were booked LONG before I was. At that time, was the map different? Since I've been booked, I've only seen the map and itinerary laid out as they are now.

Hi - thanks for replying:thumbsup2 When I booked on opening day, there was no map on the screen at all, but the itinerary was exactly as it is now (eg no St lucia). Just for your info, I rang DCL yesterday and they confirmed that the itinerary is exactly the same, and that the map must just be incorrect. Oh well, I nearly came back to join you - but it is obviously not meant to be!;) Have a great trip!!:santa:

Ok, I see Minnie Mouse in that photo. Here's another one with Minnie: Remember the Magic.

We are looking forward to the new ports we have not seen before and the longer cruise! At the time of the cruise we will be Renee (43) & Alan (43) Anna (DD6) and AJ (DS4). We are in room 2608 - although with this longer cruise we hope to upgrade if there is space available at time of departure! This will be our 6th Disney Cruise - Anna & AJ have been on one every year of their lives and love it! This will be our 5th Holiday cruise on the Magic. We are also DVC owners at the Contemporary and will be staying at BLT the night before we sail.
