Magic Christmas Cruise 2010 (Dec 18th - 29th) **** PART III ****

Does anyone have the Personal Navigator from Thursday, Dec 23 (Barbados)? If so, could you scan and email it (PM me for email) if it's not too much trouble? For some reason, we don't have that one, and I always like to put together a book of all our Navigators for posterity...

Thank you!!! Liz

Wasn't able to catch up with many of you. However I would lke to say a huge thank you for all the FE gifts. I was amazed at how many there were! I got my excercise delivering them, that's for sure. My DS10 helped me out once, next time he was "uh, no chance"

Had a great serving team, Brian & Gerry. They had to put up with a lot from another table, seriously they were saints. Falcon our stateroom host was really good too.

Liz, I do believe I have them all. I am, ahem, taking my time in unpacking:rolleyes1 but feel sure I have it. The problem is, no scanner! However, I have a new Apple Macbook scheduled for delivery tomorrow (thanks German!) and am then gonna head to the Wal-Mart and buy me a scanner/printer. If that all goes according to plan, I'll get it to you then.

Melanie

I have many thoughts about the quality of the product DCL delivered and will post them later -- when I've finished unpacking -- which incidentally leads me to my "oh no" moment. I left one full drawer in our stateroom. How do I get the stuff back? Who do I call? I posted a thread on the main boards, too. I tried to call DCL but no answer b/c of the holiday. Unless the Orlando TSA agents absconded with the stuff (whole other story I may bore you with -- had an awful experience with the TSA in Orlando with two separate full body pat downs in front of my 9 year old DD who was bawling...).

Anyway, if anyone has experience with leaving stuff on the ship, please let me know.

I can comment unequivocally that you DIS'rs made the cruise for us and because of you we had a great vacation. DCL, not so much. 2-3 star product for a 5 star price. They should be ashamed. More on that later...

We forgot something a few cruises ago and I was able to call lost and found. They will ask for a description of the items left behind. They ended up mailing them all home. Good Luck.

Our family definitely got hit with some type of stomach virus. DS got it first, then DW two days later, then DD after we got home. It also seems like the continuous partying takes its toll, I got sick after my last 7-day cruise. Now I have a miserable head cold. Can't wait to do it again. pirate:

Hope you are all feeling better! I am now trying to file a claim with our insurance for the time DH was quarantined. I think they make the process so difficult hoping you will decide it's not worth it! But I am forging ahead...

Hey Everyone!
I didn't get much chance to meet many of you, we came with a fairly large party and time went so fast!!!

I wanted to thank you all for the amazing FE Gifts. This was the highlight of the trip for our DD. To the person that made the doll with the red hat and scarf and the nylon body, my DD adored that, and carried it around everywhere.

It is interesting how many people got sick! I was violently ill on the last night and on debarkation day, and my DH the next day after that, we didn't even get a chance to say goodbye to our servers.

Highlights:

  • Best Room host EVER. Albert was super amazing, we would joke that he was living in our room, as he was so attentive.
  • Best Servers. Sarah and Ferenc made the trip for our DD. Ferenc always did magic tricks and called our dd princess. I can't say enough about them!
  • St Thomas diving excursion. Was well planned, interesting dive, super safety concious crew.
  • Loved our room. 6146. It was very quiet, beautiful unobstructed view.
  • Wave phones

Things that could use improvement:

  • Hated to have to wait in line for so long to meet characters. It is really difficult to keep a 4 year old happy during that wait time. They try to make it so exclusive by having half hour windows, it's so annoying!
  • Guadalupe dive excursion. No one on our tour bus could speak French, and therefore could not communicate with the local dive company. The excursion "leader" did not seem to care about actually taking charge of the situation and didn't even bother to do a count of the divers. (anyone see Open Water?)
  • We did like the food, but overall found it to be over salted and over sugared in a lot of cases.
All in all we did really enjoy this cruise, and would consider going again.

I have scanned ours. Send me a PM with your e-mail address, and I will send them to you.

Sorry to hear about the quarantine. I hope you have better luck than we did with the insurance co. We had to cancel our cruise because both my daughter and I were in the hospital. She was in a coma for crying out loud. How is that a pre-existing condition?? :confused3:confused3 We have gone back and forth since May. I wish they would either deny it so we can go thru Disney and see if they will give us a credit on our future cruises since we rebooked 3 cruises since then. Even just giving our $400 back that we paid for the insurance would be better than nothing. We did not have a problem with the hotel or the airline but no luck with the cruise travel insurance. I hope they can accommodate your claim swiftly!

I spent most of the morning sorting through the FE gifts. They are amazing! So many clever ideas. So many thoughtful gifts. Most we kept and truly enjoyed (or ate ;)). Some gifts for the younger children, we put in a large ziploc and will pass onto the Boys and Girls Club families during our January 21 Charity cruise on the Dream. We are getting together and making gift bags for the 45 families that will be aboard with us. It's a group effort so every little bit counts. My husband and I listened to one of the CDs today and it made the afternoon of work so delightful. Thanks Dawn and Paige! We can't wait to pop a new one in tomorrow.

Good morning! Reentry is a little difficult, for sure.

I am really enjoying reading the trip reports so far! Great job!

Joanne, can you pm me Caiti's email? Phoebe would really like to email her. I am in DC frequently so maybe we can get them together when you all move back to VA.

Thanks Pam. They found my stuff and will send it to my house. Yay.

Just finished filling out my DCL survey online. :surfweb:

I mentioned names both good and bad. :rolleyes1

Now I have to get over this sinus infection... Hope everyone is doing well in 2011! :3dglasses

Wouuld like to thank each and everyone of you again... for making this trip so special for my family espically for Vika who celbrated her first :santa:.
She cried when we had to go home..

Thank you to all of you on the thread and all who participated in the FE. You helped make this trip truly special for me and my family. We really had a great time.

You may have seen a few of my negative comments on the cruise -- these are a result of my disappointment in Disney, particularly the staff. I don't even have specific complaints about most of the staff, just that they seemed to be mechanically doing their jobs with no joy or spark. This is a big change from our cruises in 2004 & 2005 when we really experienced the Disney difference -- hence the disappointment. I was also appalled in the condition of the ship, particularly since many things could be upgraded quickly and relatively inexpensively. Bed spreads, carpets, etc. And I don't know if anyone else did the Rasul, but the mildew smell in there??? Needless to say the smell made it less than romantic. ;)

Highlights:

ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING we did with fellow DIS'rs ... from brunch, excursions, wine tasting, the CC 5K, the FE, to just hanging out. Fantastic!

Our rockin' tablemates from up north. Comparing our days every night was so fun! Marcy, Chris and Greg, I hope you think about stopping in Missouri on one of your drives south...we would love to have you.

Excursions. Every one we did was great. My favorite was the bike ride on Water Island culminating in beer and a cheeseburger in paradise; DH's fave was the 12M regatta in St. Maarten.

Feeling like the vacation was going on and on. I loved getting to Day 7 -- and having 4 more days.

Partying like rock stars on the second to last night in Rockin' Bar D. Note to The Gales: You guys know how to have FUN!

Shopping the gift stores with Melanie, drinking wine with Pam, getting lost with Liz during the CC5K and meeting Chip and Dale by the adult pool on -- was that Day 2 -- with Joanne and Pam.

Enjoying the 90 deg weather on Christmas Day and watching my DD and her new friends take part in the stage show at Goofy's Pool. Wow! What a fantastic way to spend Christmas.

Having Flannery describe to me the new ice cream flavor she'd invented (called "The Flannery") at the ice cream station on Deck 9.

Watching my DH really unwind and have fun.

Lowlights:

The snotty guy who manages Lumieres. I wanted to punch him at Christmas Brunch.

DD9 having little to no interest in the Kids' Club. She's normally all over stuff like this. I lay the blame at Disney's feet, but could be off base.

Peter, the blase cruise director. Promote Tissa and can him. She's fantastic.

Our head server. I didn't know who he was until Pam told me the final morning. He never checked on us once. Didn't even come by for his tip. Why I gave it to our server to give to him is beyond me.

Attitude of CM's generally. No joy, no verve, nothing. I noted no special attitudes. Maybe it was just the ones I came into contact with, but geeze, we were on the boat 11 days.

Worn out bedspread, carpet and bathrooms. For this I paid $X??? Shame on you Disney Cruise Line.

Condition of ship. Plastic 5 gallon buckets everywhere for the leaks. Come on -- this isn't the Red Roof Inn. She's a gorgeous ship. Take care of her.

Mildew smell in Rasul Room. EEEEW.

Anyway -- thanks again to everyone here. You all made the trip for us!!! Jeff (DH) even said this morning it drove him nuts how I was always checking the boards on my iPhone before our trip -- but that being part of this group made the cruise great! I wouldn't sail without ya. :grouphug:

Agreed!

Agreed again!

This makes me very nervous. I am not sure what we were doing, but hopefully, no one has video. :)

I am not sure if you had any interaction with the Assistant Cruise Director, Darren. He was our CD on our Thanksgiving 2007 cruise, and we liked him. While we were speaking with Darren on this cruise, he indicated that Peter is the main CD, and when Peter was on his time off, that he (Darren) would be the CD. It is funny, I don't have anything negative to say about Peter, but I think I agree with your thoughts. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Hello All!
First of all a great big thank you to everyone for the fantastic fish extender gifts! What an awesome experience for the kids (and me!). It was like Christmas all cruise long! We had a fabulous vacation and really had no problems with service at all. Our servers were outstanding--very friendly, knowledgable and efficient. One was on his 2nd contract with disney, though he'd been with another line for like 12 or 15 years and our assistant was on his first contract but was doing just fine. Our cabin host was great maybe the best we've had over 6 dcl cruises and 3 on other lines. One thing to keep in mind regarding dining service is that not only were there "growing pains" as previously mentioned but also this was an 11 night itinerary with added dinner menus, dinner shows, different rotations to accomodate the holiday, etc..That doesn't come as an excuse just possibly explains some of the issues. Our kids thought the counselors in the club were awesome this trip! If I had to complain about something I guess I'd say I was disappointed with the entertainment in the main theater. We had previously done an 11 night southern on the Wonder several years ago and we got to see stage shows like Hercules (after it was retired) so I guess I was hoping for something special or more Disney or Holiday oriented.

Anyway, hope everyone has a terrific new year and thanks again for the fun and fantastic fish extenders!!

I agree with all of your comments. We had great service... Timely, friendly, and professional.. Food was hot, and our server even always brought extra dishes for us to try without even asking so we could have a little of everything.... cabin steward also did a great job, keeping my ice filled as I tipped him extra to do so on the first day and never had to ask for it again. The kids had a blast.

One thing I can say is that there is entirely too much of the tweens running around unsupervised up and down the hallways and around the ship, almost knocking us over on several occasions. If I had the opportunity to stiff-arm one of them I guarantee I would have. I believe this to be the fault of the parents... If I caught my kids acting the same way some of these kids were acting I can guarantee you there would be action taken. Other than that, great job to Disney

I was constinently using the "wave-phone" to check where Justin was.... Not saying that he wasn't loitering in the halls but I don't think he was one that was being loud or obnoxious.. I still think I have the fear of God in in him... :rolleyes1

I have read previous threads about the longer cruises being like that... kids get to know others and start running in packs.. getting a little more rowdy. I reported some several times to DCL folks.. If mine was doing something I would have wanted the same.. :upsidedow

If it makes anyone feel better, I didn't notice the tweens as much on this cruise as we did on the Baltic and we were on Deck 2 down the hall from the tween club on both cruises.

Peter, the blase cruise director. Promote Tissa and can him. She's fantastic.
we've never had him as our cruise director before, and I agree with your opinion!
Our head server. I didn't know who he was until Pam told me the final morning. He never checked on us once. Didn't even come by for his tip. Why I gave it to our server to give to him is beyond me.
I agree with you here too, our head server was Ian, and I had to actually ask to meet him on the day before our last night. not impressed! on other cruises, the head server really makes an effort, and we stillsay hi and they remember us.

Worn out bedspread, carpet and bathrooms. For this I paid $X??? Shame on you Disney Cruise Line. yup, again. I asked our room host to remove our bedspread and store it the very first day. I much preferred the nice white sheet on the bed

Condition of ship. Plastic 5 gallon buckets everywhere for the leaks. Come on -- this isn't the Red Roof Inn. She's a gorgeous ship. Take care of her.
I don't agree here, I think there was a problem and they were tkaing care of it.

Mildew smell in Rasul Room. EEEEW. Where's the Rasul room?

:grouphug:

BUT I WILL SAY IT WAS A WONDERFUL TRIP AND I WOULD DO IT AGAIN! We have such a small family, it was nice to be busy all during the holiday! :santa:
