Magic Christmas Cruise 2010 (Dec 18th - 29th) - PART II

The first christams we went I took a small inflatable tree. This time im not taking one due to space in cases and I dont want to clutter the cabin.
I do buy some cheap dollar shop decorations to put around the cabin where it wont take space/get in the way. It does look lovely decorated but for the amount of time we actually spend in the room its not worth giving up precious space in my case.:)

A few years ago I bought one of those "Christmas Tree In a Box" things when it went on clearance after Christmas. Never used it...I pulled it out the other day and opened it and it looks like it's going to be the perfect tree for us! DD will enjoy putting it together. There are pre-cut ornaments but also some origami paper if you want to make a few of your own. DH will enjoy that part. I think aside from that we'll get some window clings and of course we will have some magnets on our door and our FE. I looked through our magnets from last year and thankfully some of them were not dated and would still be super-cute to use, so I won't have to make much, if any, magnets this year. I had waaaay too many last year...and we had 2 cabins on that trip!

Has anyone ever done the thing that shows up on our reservations to have a character call your child? If so, does it cost anything? What do they say? Do they actually tell your child that they are going on a cruise and which one or what date? And lastly can you schedule the time that the call comes? I'm thinking this might be a fun way to tell DD that we are going!

I did it, but as a direct dial-not schedule kind of thing. It was cute. Had DD5 listen to it and she LOVED it!

Hi Caryn,

Thanks for the info. Did the message give details regarding your trip, like the date and where you were going? Just wondered if the call is just a generic greeting or if it would really tell DD she is cruising on such and such a date...

Thanks,
Kimberly

If I am remembering it is fairly generic. I believe it can be done multiple times. Try it out :)

3Princess, have fun at Marine Ball! I'm certain there will still be small trees for sale at WM & Target.

Character Call: I signed up for one. You tell them either the date or month of your cruise, dont remember, you can pick which character from a few and you pick the date and time. They will send you a confirmation. I set mine up for Dec 16 at 8pm. So I can't tell you more, sorry. Oh, it is free. Well, let's say included in the cruise!

Do any of you with curly hair attempt to straighten? I like to when I get dressed up sometimes, but wondering if I'm just waisting space in my suitcase b/c hair will frizz immed. b/c of humidity? I'm thinking I am silly for even considering trying to flat iron my hair on a cruise. Any experience?

WOW - is online checkin available already???

Yes it is. Online check-in started at 90 days and I think it is availabe up until 3 days before the cruise. You will still get all the documents in the mail but it is just nice to have it done already.

More to add! We booked today! 2 sets of grandparents and an uncle (single I might add!) along with myself, dh, ds-14 and dd-8

:welcome: Welcome Aboard mmi! :welcome:

Looks you you have a quite the group traveling with you and my DD-14 is excited about seeing more teens!

Make sure you read the first post for all the fun things we have planned and there is a teen thread is your DS is interested and talking to other teens.

3princessmommy - have a great time at the Ball and enjoy your night out with DH.

momssurprise - I don't have curly hair but sometimes I wonder why I spend all the time straightening my hair. It kind of has a mind of it's own on the cruise. Works sometimes but others it just goes wild.

I thought I saw somewhere there might be a talent show? DD9 loves stuff like this; anyone recall anything like this from previous cruises?

Straightening is a "procedure" for me but can last a few days at home so can be worth it tinewise; and is handy when I travel for work... But thinking all that stuff can stay home. I might have to sport a ball cap with my formal tho! Or lots of Bobby pins!

I see the salon offers a blow out; wonder how that works?

Yes, they usually do have a talent show. I was just looking at the Navigators for the Oct 23rd EC cruise and it shows sign-ups for the talent show on the first day, then there is a rehearsal later in the week, and the talent show is on the last day at about 7:30pm. Ours might be a little different since we have an extra Sea Day.

I fully understand. Like I said, I don't have curly hair but with all the humidity my hair has a mind of it's own.

I'm not sure about the salon but I do know they get pretty busy for formal nights. You could always book it now and then go and talk to them once you get on board and if you don't think it is worth it you can cancel. You would have to check the cancellation policy but I believe it is 24hrs.

I have curly hair and take my flat iron. I've used it a couple times. I like that it smoothes the frizzies-so when I know we're going to get photos taken I'll use it, but by next morning it's all gone.:sad2: I live in my baseball caps during the day anyway to keep the curlies from tangling in the ocean breeze.

We went to the United Way thing at DTD this morning and I found a tree at the Christmas store for 1/2 off. It's in a mailing tube and is a "mailable tree with ornaments". It's about 18 inches tall with Mickey Santa hat ears on top and Mickey boots on bottom and the ornaments are Mickey clothes. Figured it'd be enough for the 2 of us and easily packable in and out(it goes back into the mailing tube). Regular price is $26.95. In case someone wants to get one once they get here.

Lori - Did you make it to the DTD sale this morning? It used to be held in The Celebration k-8 School and the proceeds used to benefit The Rotary Club and therefore the school. Much needed, I might add. I actually volunteered and worked the sale 2 years ago. It used to be held the same day as Celebration's porch and sidewalk sale so it was a zoo. Did you find any items of interest?

It's mighty chilly here today, started out at 42 degrees !!Just sayin' for packing purposes. You never know what the temperature will be come December!!

We went. I'd go again if they did it but I'd take some bags along(they ran out of baskets). I got alot of 2010 stuff, and some gift stuff. There were $5 beach towels I wanted but couldn't carry anymore. Rick got 2 of the AP vinylmation released today and some Ghiradelli stuff.

We're exhausted (and I'm freezing still) but it was worth it I think.
