MAGIC BANDS w/ DVC Member "attachment"

So to clarify. If I have an active AP, when they send me the AP magic bands, they will also send me the DVC sliders?

The AP Slider is sent with the Passholder MagicBands.
The DVC Slider is sent with MagicBands for a DVC Resort Reservation.

See when we went in May we stayed at Beach Club Villas and when we received our Magic Bands we didn't get the DVC slider :sad2:

No big deal, they're just decoration. You still need to show your DVC Membership card or annual pass card for any applicable discounts, with or without the sliders.

I rec'd another box with Magic Bands and Annual Passholder sliders today!
My AP's are not activated-I purchased through DVC when they had the special pricing available through April and I did link the code I was given on MDE to my reservation and Magic Bands. Now I have 2 sets of Magic Bands for one reservation.
I am assuming-hoping-that both will work for parks and room once I activate the passes-but I don't know.

Yes, they will. As well as all future stays. Think of any magic band as a key to your Disney profile. All it does is emit a fixed numerical code that tells the system who you are. So long as there is a ticket or lodging reservation properly linked to your MDE profile, the band will work.

I've got eight sets of bands now for each family member. And all 40 of those bands will work interchangeably to open doors, grant park admissions, etc.

Yes and no, when you check-in at the resort the CM can pull up all of your MBs on the screen. Even though you may have activated all of your MBs on your MyDisneyExperience.com account, they may not all be activated to open the doors. You may need to tell the CM which, or all, of the magic bands you want to use for room access. WHen I checked in at OKW last month, two of the 4 bands for my account were turned on for the doors.

I have no doubt this is indeed what a CM told Chuck. But it is not factually accurate, as I understand the IT behind MDE to work.

The bands emit a fixed numerical code which is associated with your MDE profile. Your profile can have essentially unlimited bands associated to it. The room reservation also is associated to your profile. As long as the MDE system recognizes "you" when you scan a band at a room door, the room opens. All the front desk folks do with the band at check-in is make sure it is associated to you.

I've proven this by keeping one of each of my old bands and trying them all when I go on a new trip. Bands from November 2013 VWL have worked at six different other rooms, with no problem.

A band can get disassociated, either by you manually turning it off in MDE, by the room not correctly linking to your profile, or by the system failing. But all of my bands from all prior reservations do indeed work on new rooms, and I never hand the old bands to the desk at that resort when I check in.

Also, my PAP bands open room doors, and those of course were never used for a resort stay. As will your PAP card itself, as it also is an RFID card associated to your MDE profile.

So as long as everything connected with MDE and the Magic Bands remains connected they will all work interchangeably.

I get (sort of) that the information is not actually in the Magic Band-but in the ether, or Disney system, but the radio freq thingy receives all of the info that has been attributed to or connected to a MDE account.
Yes?

This is 100% correct. Our family has a five bands each per person...2 from last year's trips.. The AP band and 2 from our recent split stay. Not only did all the bands work I also brought 12 old roomkey cards with RFID chips before they eliminated them. Was hoping the old fast pass machines were still in use somewhere but no dice. Anyway those cards are linked to our MDE account and also worked to open the door.

As to the OP about the sliders... I like them. My wife always forgets about thedvc discount. Every time she was at a register this last trip the CMs would see the slider on her band and asked for her card to apply the discount. So CMs look at them and it can help.... But you still need your DVC member card.

Just got off the phone with Member Services.
The MS rep was not very clear on the two different wrist bands or why I even got two sets but did say that either would work. Initially she said I need both sets because one was linked to my resort reservation and the other set to my passes and that I would have to get the Check in CM to merge that onto one of the wrist bands. I said that didn't sound right. She then spoke to a supervisor who informed her and then me that either set would work. Also said I did not have to physically "activate" my annual passes as they were linked to My Dis Exp. but recommended that I go to a customer service booth at a park and pick up actual physical passes to have-"just in case" anything happens.

I didn't bother asking about magic bands that I have from a previous trip. I will bring them along and see how it goes.

Luckyman--I have forgotten to mention DVC or AP discount so sliders will be a good reminder. DD said we are special. Wait until she sees how many other special people there are!

it's just a nice little decoration for dvc members, I had fun looking for it on other peoples bands. fun picking out the dvc members.

I agree! We are at OKW now and it has been like a little game counting the number of DVC-decorated bands! :goodvibes

We have had 4 trips with Magic Bands for a total of 6 bands each. We are DVC members and have APs. We have never gotten sliders :upsidedow

I think they only started including them with the Magic Bands for vacations starting in very late May or early June.

We currently have 4 sets of MB, they just keep sending them:crazy2:

Haven't had an issue with 'whatever' most recent set working on the resort door or in the parks.

We received 2 sets for January trip (1st set, then another came with AP sliders), May trip garnered another 2 sets (original mailing, then a set with DVC sliders).

MDE indicates it appears we have yet another set due to be shipped for our October trip! Seems wasteful imo. No idea if there is a way to indicate our willingness to use the existing bands or not.:confused3

I have seven MagicBands, and I've also not had any issues using any of them to open my resort door. I will touch the MagicBand of the day (or hour) to the door prior to closing it to make sure it will unlock the door.

Lucky you! Our last difficulty was at akv concierge so at least it wasn't us running back and forth. Instead it took the cm 3 trips to their computer. :)

Last time we stayed CL at AKV, they flagged us as both DVC and Concierge Level in the resort system. This caused the KTTW cards to not work. I don't recall now which flag they removed to get the KTTW cards to work. This was all pre-MagicBands.
