Magic band question

Hello DISers!

My daughter went to Disney with my parents last November, so she has a magic band. We are going as a family this November. Will they send my daughter another band? Or can she use the one she already has? Just wondering if I need to make sure the band is kept in a safe spot (where we can find it again!). Is there a simple FAQ on magic bands somewhere can direct me to? I know there is a ton of info on this site, but there is so much it is overwhelming! This will be my first time using them and I want to make sure I educate myself.

They will send her another band if you are staying onsite. Both bands will work with her account, so make sure you order her a different color so that she can have some variety!

She will get another band if she has an annual pass and it's renewed before your trip, if you guys will be staying on property, if you buy one prior to the trip off somewhere like eBay brand new, or buy one within the park.

You can have multiple bands attached to one MDE account and can use more than one band during your trip. So unless you're doing one of the options above, then keep her band in a safe place.

If the MagicBand your daughter currently has is linked to your parents' MDE account, it will not work with your MDE account. MagicBands cannot be moved from one MDE account to another.

Just plan on using the new MagicBands that you'll customize for your upcoming trip.

No, but you can take in her MagicBand and your parents' MagicBands to get same day Fastpasses at the kiosks.

MagicBands from a different MDE account, as long as they aren't being used during your trip, can be taken to FP kiosks to get extra sets of FPs during your trip.

oh! Thank you for explaining. I am still trying to figure out everything about the magic bands. That sounds a little..... umm... like am unintended loophole!

If you call Disney they will link her for you. My DD is on my account, but she is taking a trip with my mom. Disney was able to link her so that her bands and tickets show up in my mom's account too, even though she is controlled by me.

This is true. Your DD can easily be linked to both your and your parents' MDE accounts. You can do it yourself - but I can't remember exactly how, sorry! I did it last year so that DGD would be on my account and her father's account too. Works fine.

Thanks again everyone. I don't know yet if I will bother to try to link her old band. I'll just let her pick out a new one. Do they have any new colors? I really want a purple band!! Is there a place where I can go see all of the custom options? Are the only "custom options" the color and your name?

Customizing is choosing a plain colored band and keying in a name for that specific band.

There are several styles of magic bands shown on that website. If we stay onsite, do we get to only choose from the standard colors or are those other fancy bands available as well? I love the Tinker Bell one! and minnie mouse! My daughter would go crazy for Elsa or Olaf!

Only the plain, solid-colored MBs are included with your onsite reservation. Other styles can be purchased when you reach WDW or you can order from the Disney Store.

I don't want to start a debate but can someone discuss their opinion on thisl? Is this one of those "unintended loopholes" that people are taking {unfair} advantage of? I sounds like when people where getting FP+ in the testing phase AND getting paper FPs. I remember the debated over that issue.

No, just read the link that was posted. Discussion/opinions aren't allowed within that link.
Disney has set up a billion dollar system and is quite aware of how it works. That's why their IT department, from top level execs on down, has turned over a number of times since My Magic+ began.

As long as you have a magic band that has a valid ticket on it you can get FP's on it and bring it in the park. You don't have to scan the band at the entrance for the FP's to be "activated". So if you have 10 family members, all annual passholders, and it's only you going to the park.. You can bring the 9 other bands and have fast passes on all of them and use them yourself.

But each band has to have its own valid park ticket or annual pass on it. So one person can't enter with their band, go buy 20 magic bands at a store, then have all of that for themself. Unless they wanted to buy 20 bands, then go buy 20 park tickets to use lol.

It's not really cheating the system because each band with fast passes has a paid park ticket or annual pass already bought and linked to it.
