Magic Band mini-vent

Maybe there's something I'm not thinking about but is this really any different than it has been? Historically you've had to do the same thing to have your passes on your KTTW card.

Yes that is correct, I have no idea why getting more than one set of bands is anything to get upset over. I like them, I wish they had sent me more than one set. I would have one of every color if possible.

We just use MDE to only have one set of bands attached to our account. Used the same bands for the whole vacation at two different resorts.

This has been my experience as well. I have 6 MBs and they all work equally. We did a split stay this month and used our BWV bands for out BLT stay. We had new MBs for BLT but I liked the green BWV band better than the pink BLT one!

During our Thanksgiving visit, I had three sets. Used the same band the entire trip. There was no problem and I didn't have to check in before going to a park on the transfer days. We had a minor issue at our last resort, but it didn't stop us from using our tickets in any way. Tickets, FP, charging privileges all were used without any problems.

Non-touch RFID is currently being used in some restaurants and at attractions where your picture is taken on the ride. In restaurants where you order and pick where to sit, the servers know who and where you are from your MDE account. Photos from the ride are added to your photo pass account without you having to do a thing. :earsboy: Bill

Interesting. I'm trying to decide if it is cool or creepy that they can do this. I guess it's cool; it isn't like we weren't already on a million security cameras being watched all the time before this was added. But when a server that I haven't met finds my seat and calls me by name, that may be a bit odd.

I know the etch-a-sketch that was recently put in the TSMM queue is for active RFID from the MB. As of our trip last month, it hadn't been activated to do this yet, but eventually it is supposed to work individually with identifying the folks in the line.

Again not sure if it is cool or creepy when Etch starts calling my kids by name and asking how the weather is back in Ohio...but the kids will surely think it is awesome.

my thoughts exactly :)

I definitely see the benefit for character interactions. It will certainly enhance the 'magic'

Nothing is put on the bands, ticket media, AP's, FP's, everything is in your MDE account, the bands are used only to access your account.

:earsboy: Bill

Exactly.

I had one customized band and one grey band because I couldn't find the customized one for a few days. They both worked just fine.

The info is on my account. The bands access the account.

I asked what that meant for our tickets, and they said they'd be associated with the first set of bands but when we're there we'll have to have Guest Services then TRANSFER them to the second set so we can get into the parks on the day we change to our new resort.

How annoying.

What is annoying is to have someone answering the phone who doesn't know how they work. Unless something is actually going wrong with your band and/or your account, the tickets will be on your account. You won't have to transfer anything.

We have a split stay next week. Will we need to check out in the lobby of OKW before checking in to ssr so our magic bands will work? Usually we just do express checkout and just leave.

Will the face characters begin to start calling the kids by name?!?! THAT would be AMAZING (and worth a raise to those hard working people.... they are absolutely the best!)

No, you don't need to check out in the lobby of OKW :)

We have ten of us and three different resorts...so I will be getting 30 magic bands. We are putting the resort initials on each of the bands xxxx BCV; XxxxOKW and xxxx VGF. Since there aren't ten colors we should have a great time...although I'm told the kiddies you can peal off the gray outer band...so that may help. Will be interesting as I will put all 30 in my carry on.

You can peel off the gray part to make it smaller for the kids. Be sure to have them on and ready to go at the airport. They will scan them there. As I was told, before I had to go searching in my carry on, "you are now on Disney property." It was nice to just scan my band at the airport instead of fumbling around with the booklet.

with annual passes our passes were always separate from the room key now they are on the bracelet.

So much more convenient than having a KTTW card, an annual pass, and a photo pass card, too many cards to have to keep up with.

I've actually read more than once that you CAN have problems at the next resort if you haven't properly checked out in person at the resort you're moving from. I know we're planning on fully checking out during our split stays in January instead of just doing as we've done in the past.

You can't get a room key until the old resort checks you out. It should happen automatically around 11:30 but at VGF it didn't happen and even though our room was ready at BWV, we had to wait about an hour including 2 trips to the room to get access.

We recently had a split stay and were advised at BWV to go to the front desk and check out to ensure we did not have issues checking in at the next resort.

Interesting....we had no problems checking in to our 2nd resort but maybe we were just lucky.

It was suggested to us as a precaution, not a requirement. Apparently the system may not recognize you've checked out of the first resort right away, and you can't check in at the next resort until the system knows you are checked out of the first.

We did a split stay between AKL-Jambo and SSR over Thanksgiving and also received two sets of Magic Bands. While the Magic Bands worked perfectly fine at AKL, we had a multitude of problems with our Magic Bands for the duration of our stay at SSR (3 nights). Both sets of bands worked fine for accessing the park (our APs were linked to our MDE account) and our FP+ reservations for the entire trip. However, when we switched resorts, we had the following problems while at SSR:

1. At SSR, the only Magic Band that they could get to work as a room key was my son's second Magic Band (he is 5). Despite repeated attempts over the last three days, they could not get either set of Magic Bands for myself or my wife to unlock our room. Fortunately we had my son's band and our back-up KTTW cards that worked.

2. After checking in at SSR, the charging privileges for my and my wife's Magic Bands stopped working. Whatever they did to reinstate charging privileges the next day wiped out the dining plan credits on our bands. When we got the dining plan reinstated that night, the charging privileges shut off again on the one set of bands we were using but the second set worked for charging that evening at the resort.

While dealing with these issues was frustrating, we did not allow it to interfere with our enjoyment of the trip as we expected problems based on all of the complaints we have been reading on the Dis. I hope they will figure these problems out before our next trip in March, but I am not terribly optimistic about that.

We just returned from a 4 night stay at BWV. I checked in on line, and we had the dining plan. The magic band worked great for the fast passes, dining plan and park admission, and of course, letting us into the room. Despite adding my credit card to my account when doing on line check in, we were on unable to do charging to the room. We went twice to the concierge desk to have charging added, on two separate days, but, they were unable to do so. Fortunately, I brought other means of paying with me. Since we were only staying 4 nights, and were already on day 3, we decided not to waste our time and let them try again to add charging to the magic band. We were in room 1001, which is the last room on the hallway, and it just wasn't worth the walk back to the lobby.

My only issue, so far, is that I still have to pull out my ID and AP/DVC cards to get my discount on purchases. So, I still have to carry some sort of wallet around, even if I didn't want a back-up payment method. Surely they could add that to my MDE.

They could but they don't want you to remember to ask for the discount. Just like they could refund unused DDP credits but they want them to expire, same with non used admissions on a ticket.
