Is anyone here a huge fan?

My first encounter with one of his movies was Sixth Sense. I thought he was a genius.

Then came Signs and I was a little miffed at the ending. It kind of fell flat for me, but I still liked it.

The Village was a huge disappointment, not in the acting, but in the story itself.

Now we have Lady in The Water. I've only seen previews, I have no idea what the story is about and I'm not willing to pay $8 (or more) to find out. If it's anything like The Village, I'll pass.

:wave2: Me! He is the modern master of suspense. I love the edge-of-my-seat-shivers I get when watching one of his creations.

I agree with you that the end fell a little flat in Signs. Though I did love The Village. Great discussions resulted out of that movie with the various people we have see it with. But, both dh and I came out of a religious community that tries to "be apart from the world", so the movie hit home in an eery sense.

no idea but my nephew has a bit part in the movie so we'll be going.

That's neat, can you tell us where to look for him?

I googled M. Night and found this, which I was unaware of (the Disney part)

Shyamalan achieved commercial success in 1999 when he wrote, directed, and produced The Sixth Sense. The book DisneyWar contains an account of the business dealings behind The Sixth Sense: David Vogel of The Walt Disney Company read Shyamalan's spec script and instantly loved it.[citation needed] Without obtaining approval from his boss, Vogel bought the rights to the script, despite the high price of US$2 million and the stipulation that Shyamalan could direct the film. Disney later stripped Vogel of the title of President of Walt Disney Pictures, and Vogel left the company. Walt Disney Pictures, apparently in a show of little confidence in the film, sold the profits to Spyglass Entertainment, and kept only a 12.5 percent distribution fee for itself.[citation needed]

The Sixth Sense tells of a psychologist who blaims himself for a patient's suicide and his own broken marriage. Upon meeting a disturbed child who claims to see people who have died, the psychologist feels he has found a chance to redeem himself.

The film had a $40 million budget, and grossed over $600 million at box offices worldwide. It is one of the twenty-five most commercially successful films of all time[4], and Disney's biggest live-action hit.

The Sixth Sense was nominated for six Academy Awards, including Best Editing, Best Supporting Actor for Haley Joel Osment, Best Supporting Actress for Toni Collette, Best Director, Best Picture, and Best Original Screenplay.

I am a fan  . I loved Sixth Sense and Signs. The Village was kind of predictable but still a pretty good movie. I don't really remember Unbreakable. Guess I'll need to watch it again. This new one has me intrigued. I hope to see it in the theaters :thumbsup2 .

My favorite is unbreakable. I'm a huge fan. I've seen all of his m ovies, and I plan to see this one. He hinted at lady in the water in his documentary of the village.

he is 2/2 for us.

Loved Unbreakable, liked Sixth Sense. Hated Signs and The Village....so we will see Lady in the Water to break the tie :rotfl:

there will be a pool scene with kids splashing around the pool and jumping in. My nephew will be in a couple scenes involving that, unless they've been cut.

Huge fan. I even liked The Villiage and thought it was one of the best movies of the year. Ms. Howard was excellent and I bet she will be again in the new movie.

As a fan of DVD extras I find Night's to be some of the best. The guy is obviously very bright, is a great interview, and loves to talk about his movies and the way he does things.

Like others on this thread, my favorite was Unbreakable, and the extras about his love for comics and low he created the story on disc two of the DVD set are almost as good as the movie itself.

Lady in the Water:
Plot Outline: Apartment building superintendent Cleveland Heep (Giamatti) rescues what he thinks is a young woman from the pool he maintains. When he discovers that she is actually a character from a bedtime story who is trying to make the journey back to her home, he works with his tenants to protect his new friend from the creatures that are determined to keep her in our world

I loved Signs. I thought the ending brought full circle the dad/preacher's conflict and questioning of his faith.

I also liked Sixth Sense and Unbreakable. The Village is my least favorite only because I figured it all out about 1/2 way through.

I don't know about the new one. I think I'll wait for reviews.

I really like all his movies. I am eager to see the new one, although I hear that it departs from his tendency to have a twist ending.

it is so weird that you posted this today...

I like his movies...interesting, thought provoking stuff. He does seem to have a fixation on the color red though, doesn't he? (Sixth Sense and The Village)

I had a dream the other night that I swear was like one of his movies...really weird...

I think Signs is a terrific movie. I also liked Sixth Sense and The Village. Hated Unbreakable, though!

I will probably see Lady in the Water. :thumbsup2
