M.Night Shyamalan?

I have seen and loved all of M. Knight Shyamalan's movies. I really liked The Village. It was not what I expected and I think that was the way it was marketed. I actually thought this movie was quite romantic. Definitely one of my favorites of his. I also liked Signs and am surprised that so many didn't like it.

I just watched the preview for Lady in the Water and it looks interesting. I'm looking forward to seeing it.

Yes I am a big fan, though I didn't see Unbreakable. Maybe I should.

I don't understand hating The Village - I thought it was nifty, though not the MASTERPIECE that The Sixth Sense is. I watch that one over and over and it boggles my mind that nobody ever, ever saw that coming. I will say that I've seen it recently on TV and they re-inserted a deleted scene which, IMO, gives away too much.

I even love his American Express commercial!

Loved Unbreakable, liked The Sixth Sense, and hated Signs. I may have liked The Village more if it wasn't so predictable from the first 10 minutes of the movie. Signs did not have a twist exactly, and from what I understand and have read about Lady in the Water, it is more of a Signs type movie than his others. Therefore I will probably not go see it in the theater.

I wouldn't say huge fan but I loved Sixth, The Village and Unbreakable. Hated Signs. The only reason I watched it (painfully) is because it was flimed nearby.

The Lady in the Water looks good!!

I loved The Villiage. I thought it was a little predictable but just scary enough for me. And I really liked the chemistry btwn Phoenix and Howard!

You know what I really like though? I like Night's American Express commercials! :teeth:

Joy

I really liked Sixth Sense, Signs was just OK. I figured out The Village. I can't remember if I have seen Unbreakable. I will watch Lady in the Water.

I love love LOVE him!!! And unlike others I LOVED the Village and thought Ron Howard's daughter and Joachim Phoenix were awesome in it!

I did not see Unbreakable but I HAVE to see it now. Sixth Sense and Signs are two of my favorite movies!

it is so weird that you posted this today...

I like his movies...interesting, thought provoking stuff. He does seem to have a fixation on the color red though, doesn't he? (Sixth Sense and The Village)

One of the things he talks about in the extras on his movie DVD's. Not a fixation on one color, a sense of style where lots of little details make up the story. All his movies have the color thing going on.

He is also one of those directors that puts himself in all his movies. Fun to see where he will turn up.

Robin, you and I are going to be fighting over Taylor AND M. Night Shyamalan now? :rotfl:

I love Signs. I will watch it whenever it is on and it drives DH nuts. I just can't watch it enough.

I don't get Unbreakable. I have all of his stuff on DVD and I've watched Unbreakable over and over and I don't get it. :confused3

I'm breaking my No Movie Theater Rule on 7/21 to see the new one. DH has the day off, so we're going during the day! :Pinkbounc

Lady in the Water:
Plot Outline: Apartment building superintendent Cleveland Heep (Giamatti) rescues what he thinks is a young woman from the pool he maintains. When he discovers that she is actually a character from a bedtime story who is trying to make the journey back to her home, he works with his tenants to protect his new friend from the creatures that are determined to keep her in our world

See that is what I read too and it just is not sounding all that attractive to me I guess I will have to wait till it comes out on dvd. Sixth Sense was the best and IMHO he has gone down since then. Hopefully he will WOW me with this one but the hype for the Village made it even more of a disappointment. NOt all that much hype with this one so maybe we will be lucky.

The Village was a huge disappointment for me and I even felt a bit deceived. It ended up being something I didn't want it to be.

Deceived....yep, that sums it up in a nutshell for me.

I think Signs is a terrific movie. I also liked Sixth Sense and The Village. Hated Unbreakable, though!
Finally someone I agree with. I don't remember much about Unbreakable, but I do remember that I hated it.
I loved Sixth Sense and The Village (maybe because I was totally surprised by the twist) and thought Signs was really good too.

I have enjoyed every single one of his movies. Unbreakable was probably my least favorite though.

We watched Signs again the other night and there was so much I missed the first time around. I wasn't that fond of it until watching it again. And I really liked The Village even though I had it figured out half-way through. I still thought it was a great movie and I agree about Joaquin and Bryce. Romantic, scary, and twisty all in one movie.

I am looking forward to Lady in the Water!!!

I also agree that his DVDs have the best extras. I love his explanations and I look forward to the clip of the film he made as a youngster. :)

I've enjoyed all of his movies. I totally figured out 6th sense and The Village halfway through each of them.
I really like how he inserts humor in the movies and his character development and relationships are fantastic!

We just have GOOD TASTE!!

I love Signs, too. My son and I had a wonderful discussion after this movie about faith since both of us have had so many losses in a short period of time. His faith never wavered and wanted to know why the character played by Mel Gibson had such a hard time with it. The "alien" subplot was so small compared to the story about faith. It was amazing!

I liked Sixth Sense and Unbreakable the other two I didn't really care for, but I wonder if its because most movies now have a twist to them so we look for the twist while watching the movie. I'll go see the new one, but this might be his make or break film for most of the public. The last two weren't all that great.

Loved Signs, liked Sixth Sense, liked the Village less, never seen Unbreakable. Plan to see Lady in the Water.

Ooooh, I LOVE his movies! I enjoyed The Sixth Sense, loved Signs and The Village and own all 3 on DVD. I'm not sure why I never saw Unbreakable but I'm sure I'll get around to it one of these days. I do plan on seeing Lady In The Water though. I think Shyamalan is a fantastic director :thumbsup2
