I've been watching the Lytro since I first started hearing about the concept a couple years ago. I was really excited about the concept but honestly, the final product is disappointing because it's so limiting. If you wanted to print one of those images it would be about a 1MP image. That resolution s fine for viewing on a computer or phone, but if you want to put it into something more you're out of luck. There is no way to control anything. You push the button. That's it. It's also not a standard file format, so that is an issue as well. I also think camera 3.0 shows a lack of knowledge on the part of whoever gave it that designation. It implies that film was first, when there were many other processes that came before film.
My husband summed it up best. If ever there were an iCamera, this is it. It's simple to use, gets a cool result, has a proprietary format and is overpriced for what it is. And lets not forget that it's Mac only right now.
Now all of that, and I would still consider getting one to play with. Because it's still a cool toy. But not at the price that they're asking.
