Have any of you camera enthusiasts heard about this camera? It's being billed as "Camera 3.0" (film being 1.0, and digital being 2.0). I'm very curious about it, since I'm not all that great about focusing my shots properly.

I don't think it's come out yet, or I'd be asking for opinions on it...

I've been watching the Lytro since I first started hearing about the concept a couple years ago. I was really excited about the concept but honestly, the final product is disappointing because it's so limiting. If you wanted to print one of those images it would be about a 1MP image. That resolution s fine for viewing on a computer or phone, but if you want to put it into something more you're out of luck. There is no way to control anything. You push the button. That's it. It's also not a standard file format, so that is an issue as well. I also think camera 3.0 shows a lack of knowledge on the part of whoever gave it that designation. It implies that film was first, when there were many other processes that came before film.

My husband summed it up best. If ever there were an iCamera, this is it. It's simple to use, gets a cool result, has a proprietary format and is overpriced for what it is. And lets not forget that it's Mac only right now.

Now all of that, and I would still consider getting one to play with. Because it's still a cool toy. But not at the price that they're asking.

I am personally not at all interested and I think it is going to flop. I could be wrong, but once people realize that they must do post processing on every single pic, that is going to turn off the masses. Most people just save the shot as it was taken. Enthusiasts, like us here, that do a lot of post processing are not the norm.

Thanks..... You've talked me off of the ledge! I love the idea of being able to fix or change the focus after the fact (because I'm not the greatest at focusing), but you're right - it would be a pain to have to process every picture after the fact.

Besides, they don't have the software for PCs yet.

To me it's not the processing, it's that your final jpeg that you'd end up with to share or print would be about 1 megapixel (I had to look long and hard to find that, it's not something they advertise). In that respect it's a big fail. But if you want an interactive photo experience, where people can view your image and play with the focus themselves, it does that very well.
