Lurking? It's Time to Come In From The Cold

Better watch out for the "evil Panda". He will strike when least expected causing laptop screen or monitor screen to be covered in whatever liquid you are drinking!:rotfl: :rotfl2:

Dave and I will be doing our 1st Goofy!

Welcome to the boards and Yarc!

Thanks Erica! I'm completely in awe of anyone who is going Goofy. Maybe I'll get there one day, but for now my goal of just 13 miles seems awfully far away.

Best of luck to you both!!!

I'll come out of lurking for a post. :) I've posted very sporadically...which reminds me of my training over the past couple of months. I was doing well up until TOT. I don't know where my motivation went after that...I guess it went to find my posts. Seriously, I'm looking forward to the 1/2 marathon but think I'll be doing quite a bit of walking on the 12th. Although I don't post very often, I do drop by to read the posts and get motivation from you guys. Everyone on this board is a source of inspiration!! :grouphug: Thank you all!!

Greetings from cold Michigan, where somewhere in the last few days I have made a tentative decision (yes no yes no) to run the Minnie Marathon 15k in May (the last year, I hear)--my first real race for a real non-runner.

I'm 49, female, not a total couch potato (I had my "race epiphany" in the shower at my gym), but I have never successfully managed to "do the running thing" My husband--yes (although now he's deep into Cyclocross), my daughter--yes (now running for her college team), my son--yes (with much prodding he is running in high school).

My fitness routine in a rut, and no immediate trips to WDW planned (versus ave of 2/year), I've "decided" to give the 15k a try. I've spent the last few days Googling (hence, my discovery of this forum, although I regularly troll the DVC rent/trade board) to see if this is even feasible. And I think the answer is yes. I have found a few training plans for 15k that even a rank amateur can supposedly do, I've set a goal of "finish" as opposed to "race" and this morning, just to see if I could, I ran 2 miles (snail pace).

Sorry for the long post, and wish me luck (please!). Maybe I can even find someone else out there who's going to try the same thing.

I have been lurking also:cool1: I will be doing a walk/run on Jan 12, my first ever half-marathon so I am also to the eeeeeeeekkk stage. Wtplc is a WISH friend and I have been driving her crazy today with questions :upsidedow I'll be cheering the full marathon and I will definitely scream for wishers there too!!

Good Luck and :welcome:! You can do it! The folks on this board will help you every step along the way too! :thumbsup2 I myself went from walking to barely being able to run in June to doing the TOT 13k in October and I'm hopeful the Marathon in a week. If I can do it anyone can!

Delurking.

Very excited/nervous about the half. The furthest I have run in my training has been 10 miles (twice) so I'm hoping "race day adrenaline" will get me through those last 3 miles. (Well, that and Mickey Mouse!)

Thanks for all the info and inspiration, WISHers. I won't be wearing lime green, but I'll be looking out for the rest of you who are!

Welcome everyone:flower3:

Please feel free to join in any of the regular discussions. Everyone here is a little different but most don't bite.

Party Panda:hippie:

I've been lurking the Wish board since I decided to sign up for the marathon. I'll be run/walking the full. I'm super nervous because I'm doing it alone. I've told myself that if I need someone to strike up a conversation with, to look for lime green.

You need to come to the Pop dinner on Friday @ 4:30, so you can meet some friends to run/walk with. Don't know about the Pop dinner? Well, look right here...http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1581664 Hope to see you there!

Welcome to all the new people!:welcome:

I am living proof that you can do anything you set your mind to. I watched my first marathon last January when my daughter ran her first full at WDW. As a mere spectator, it was an amazing event. Now my daughter is quite the athelete and she finished with a 4:01, but what impressed me even more were all the people that looked like me (roly-poly and old!) that were doing it and FINISHING! I would have never even dreamed of doing a marathon, would have never thought it was even possible.....and all these not particularly atheletic looking people were succeeding! My goal was to "maybe" do the half in '08. Well I started training and surprised myself......I did my first half in April of this year and it was easy. I walked the entire route and still finished ahead of about 50 other people. So I started training for a full. In '07 I completed 3 half-marathons plus one 13K and now I hope to finish my first full next weekend. I'm even older now...and still roly-poly... and when people hear that I training for a full marathon they just raise their eyebrows (kinda funny actually), but you know what? When I get my medal, I will have the last laugh...and you can too! You just have to put your mind to it.

For those who will be there next week, please say hello. We would all love to meet you and enjoy anyone whou would be from the DIS! Don't be shy. You will be glad you joined in.
