Greetings from cold Michigan, where somewhere in the last few days I have made a tentative decision (yes no yes no) to run the Minnie Marathon 15k in May (the last year, I hear)--my first real race for a real non-runner.
I'm 49, female, not a total couch potato (I had my "race epiphany" in the shower at my gym), but I have never successfully managed to "do the running thing" My husband--yes (although now he's deep into Cyclocross), my daughter--yes (now running for her college team), my son--yes (with much prodding he is running in high school).
My fitness routine in a rut, and no immediate trips to WDW planned (versus ave of 2/year), I've "decided" to give the 15k a try. I've spent the last few days Googling (hence, my discovery of this forum, although I regularly troll the DVC rent/trade board) to see if this is even feasible. And I think the answer is yes. I have found a few training plans for 15k that even a rank amateur can supposedly do, I've set a goal of "finish" as opposed to "race" and this morning, just to see if I could, I ran 2 miles (snail pace).
Sorry for the long post, and wish me luck (please!). Maybe I can even find someone else out there who's going to try the same thing.
