Lower or Upper floor at AKL?

My DH and I have been waffling back and forth about which would be better at AKL...4th floor or 2nd floor? We have a Savannah view and have pretty much decided on the Arusha Savannah on the Kudu Trail. Traveling with no children. But we just can't decide which floor would provide the best view. I'm thinking the lower floor will have the most "African" feel as far as feeling like you are actually in a Savannah with more close-up views of the animals. But I'm concerned that the we won't see much unless the animals just happen to be near our balcony. I think the upper floors would provide a better view, but it would be at a distance and may feel a bit disconnected. Make sense? What have your experiences been?

Definitely 2nd floor!!! We stayed on the Arusha savannah in room 2507 and the Uzima savannah in 2508 (both on Zebra Trail, 2nd floor) and both views were perfect. You will see so many animals even if they are far from your room, you'll still see them very well. And you're below the trees so you have no obstructions. We saw the 4th floor viewing areas, and they still had great views, but the 2nd floor really made you feel like you were with the animals.

I agree. We stayed on the 2nd floor Zebra Trail side. We saw animals all the time. You also don't have to go to elevators or stairs to get to the main lobby.

Thanks for your help! My DH thought the Kudu trail might be better/quieter. Do you think it makes any difference? Looks like the Zebra trail is closer to the pool and restaurants.

Well, the Zebra Trail is closer to the pool and restaurants, but the Kudu Trail would have the same views and would probably be quieter. We never heard a sound from our rooms on the Zebra Trail, yet heard basically everything that went on in our neighbors rooms and in the hallways at the GF, so I think maybe AKL is just very well insulated. But unless you plan on going to the pool or restaurants everyday, you shouldn't feel isolated on the Kudu Trail. The Mara, the food court at AKL which you would probably use most often for drinks, snacks, etc., is on the Zebra Trail side, next to Boma, but this is also right below the main lobby. So even if you are on the Kudu Trail, you need to go through the lobby to get to the buses so stopping at The Mara would not be out of the way. Really, unless you are in the block of rooms right next to the doors to the pool area and restaurants, being on the Zebra Trail is not mcuh closer to them than the Kudu Trail, especially considering how many times you'll be going to those places.

That is in interesting question...

We were on the 5th floor and sometimes we could only see the giraffes legs because the rest of him was blocked from our angle by trees... I was thinking that the view from a lower floor would have been great.

Then again... we could see alot of animals off in the distance - a better overall view of the savanna (especially at night) from the 5th floor...... on the lower floor that expansive view is blocked by trees...

Either way... you are going to see animals!

I also agree that Kudo trail is an excellent location...

I have stayed 4th and 2nd and would stay either place again with no problems. Just avoid rooms with a view of the people pens!

Where are these people pens located? Are they in all the Savanahs?

lol SuAnne

We can get you a good deal on a people pen with concierge =)

Your buddy, Cass

We have stayed in 4 and 3 floor, and we liked the 3 floor view better. This time I actually requested a second floor.

We stayed 3rd floor Zebra Trail and thought the view was great! Hope we get the same area next month!:D

I have a similar question about concierge level...are they all grouped on one floor...which floor/trail is the best and any specific great room #s to ask for would be wonderful!

Thanks...
