I finally tried this today and it's not too bad......Is this a good thing or bad ??

Tell me what you all think of the sugar free treats especially the chocolate....in relation to helping or hindering the weight loss. Obviously we are talking no nutritional value and added extra calories. ( maybe I just answered my own question ??) Okay for treat once in a while though ??

Any thoughts ??

Low carb chocolate usually contains sugar alcohol. That is absorbed slowly into your bloodstream (good for diabetics). However, it still gets there. Some lc programs do not allow it, for that reason.

Also, caffeine can stall your weight loss.

My opinion - It's not a miracle food that you can eat forever, but it's better for you than the real thing. If you can eat it in small portions and it keeps you from eating the real thing, go for it!

I was a fan of the no sugar added ice cream (Breyer's butter pecan in particular), I also enjoyed sugar free chocolate peanut butter cups and sugar free chocolate covered peanuts. While my weight loss didn't stall or stop completely, it did slow down significantly. During the month of June when I was enjoying these treats I lost 3.5 pounds, in May (before I ate them regularly) I lost 8 pounds and the first week of July when I gave up the treats, I lost 3 pounds!

I won't weigh again until tomorrow but from the results I got from one week of not eating these treats, I'm definitely off them for a while. I will occasionally have a slice of lc cheesecake from Ruby Tuesdays but I have completely given up the other stuff - and the ice cream is the hardest of all for me because I loved it!

I guess the best thing to do is to monitor your weight loss and see if eating the treats will effect your weight loss.

Just be careful! That stuff causes the runs very quickly!!!

I tired the Hershey bars and also Keebler (I think it was Keebler) cookies. They were tasty and a nice treat but I found that I would be very bloated from the sugar alcohol. I looked pregnant, so I stopped eating them.

Okay....now another question....What IS sugar alcohol?? Is it basically the same as eating sugar in the long run ?? Isn't that what splenda is made of ?? Does your body end up treating it like real sugar in the long run ?? I 'm totally confused!

Thank-you , Thank-you, Thank-you !! For that link to that great websight!! It clears up a few questions that I had about the sugar alcohols! Doesn't sound very appealing to me now...lol!
I think I'll stick with mainly "real" food.
Thanks Again :)

Here's my theory on it. I'm one of the lucky ones - it has NO laxative effect on me, whatsoever. So, I eat a couple of pieces a day (usually 2 resees' pb cups - the small ones) and it keeps me SANE!

I love chocolate and being pre-diabetic - I can't have it. If this will keep me on my diet, I'd rather lose the weight slowly, rather than abandon the program all together and not lose weight at all! I agree with everyone else's word of caution, you must exercise self control and only have a few pieces a day!
