I tried Atkins about 5 years ago with my then BF (now hubby). He lost 12kg but I only lost 2 in 3 months. But, I was trying to go 'low fat' because the book I had at the time (an older version) said it was okay.
I started up three days ago doing the 'full fat' version of Atkins. I'm a little wary as I have very high cholesteral, but WOW....5lbs in 3 days and I'm eating stuff I usually feel guilty over...can't knock the results!!
Brekkie is usually an omlette w/ a small serve of meat (usually ham or turkey, although I do prawn omlettes occassionally with some bamboo shoots and a splash of soy...almost like egg fu yung at the chinese place!!), 1oz. of brie or camanbert cheese and a good healthy splash of tabasco or chili power.
Lunches are usually frozen green veggies with meat of some kind (especially if there were dinner leftovers). Although a low carb fave of DH and I is tuna & egg salad, made with whole egg mayo, a splash of sesame oil, splash of japanese rice vinegar and a good lump of wasabi (japanese horseradish paste) mixed through it...we'll also sometimes add a bit of shredded cheese. The wasabi gives the mixture some 'kick'. It's lovely wrapped in lettuce leaves or on 9-grain flat bread type crackers.
Dinner...the usual sort of things others have....meat, veggies or salad.
Gotta say...I'm soooooo looking forward to moving back to the US in August(I'm in Australia now...hence the nickname) so that I can FINALLY take advantage of all the great low carb products available there!!! Some 'Atkins' brand products are starting to appear here but they are usually available at health food stores and are like 3x the cost of the same product in the US. A box of Atkins muffin mix is like $18!!!! So we usually do without those sorts of treats, or if I'm really motivated, I'll get some soy flour and do them from scratch.
Anyway...I just wanted to bump this thread and I'm keen to catch up with others who are working at this low-carb thing.
Cheers....
DDU (who is going to eventually change her nick ....)
