Low Carb Diet

I'd like to be on the bandwagon, but I don't think raisinettes are low carb. They are a natural source of antioxidants though!

Way to go, Steph! It actually gets easier as the days go by and the cravings fade away. You can do it! :thumbsup2
Thanks T! Ok, I fell off the wagon. In a huge way. Starting again tomorrow!

Yum! I love raisinettes, and goober. Heck dip just about anything in chocolate, and I'll eat it and ask for more. :teeth:

Hey everyone! Thanks to Trisha and Bonnie, I am on the low carb bandwagon. I just started yesterday, and with the exception of late afternoon, it's been fairly easy.

YAY, Steph!! :yay: I'm so glad you have joined us. I've been lo carbing it for one week now! It really hasnt' been that hard. So far.... But I"m going out of town and I worry that I'll have a hard time while I'm gone. I'm gonna stock lots of jerky and string cheese though!

That's ok, Squid! When you're ready, you'll join us too!!

Trisha, thanks for starting this groovy thread! You ROCK, sistah! :dance3:

Well, I'm back on track again. I just finished my yummy dinner of grilled salmon, brocolli with cheese and green beans. The rest of the family had Sonic, complete with milkshakes. I hate them. Just sayin. ;)

:cool1:

Well, I finally found the Soy Crisps!

I was looking in the wrong place at Stop and Shop, Shaws and Star Market.

Finally, yesterday when looking for pork rhines in the organic foods section, low and behold there they were on the bottom shelf. They had the Parmesan, Garlic and Olive Oil kind. I bought 3 bags!

Here they are just in case you do not know what they are:
http://www.eatsmartsnacks.com/en/eatsmart/products?cat=3&id=4

They have 5 carbs for 20 pieces so they have more carbs than pork rhines but they are a yummy alternative.

Oh and Ocean State Job Lots around here has pork rhines in regular, BBQ and salt and vinegar for a $1. a bag!!! :cool1:

I tried Atkins about 5 years ago with my then BF (now hubby). He lost 12kg but I only lost 2 in 3 months. But, I was trying to go 'low fat' because the book I had at the time (an older version) said it was okay.

I started up three days ago doing the 'full fat' version of Atkins. I'm a little wary as I have very high cholesteral, but WOW....5lbs in 3 days and I'm eating stuff I usually feel guilty over...can't knock the results!!

Brekkie is usually an omlette w/ a small serve of meat (usually ham or turkey, although I do prawn omlettes occassionally with some bamboo shoots and a splash of soy...almost like egg fu yung at the chinese place!!), 1oz. of brie or camanbert cheese and a good healthy splash of tabasco or chili power.

Lunches are usually frozen green veggies with meat of some kind (especially if there were dinner leftovers). Although a low carb fave of DH and I is tuna & egg salad, made with whole egg mayo, a splash of sesame oil, splash of japanese rice vinegar and a good lump of wasabi (japanese horseradish paste) mixed through it...we'll also sometimes add a bit of shredded cheese. The wasabi gives the mixture some 'kick'. It's lovely wrapped in lettuce leaves or on 9-grain flat bread type crackers.

Dinner...the usual sort of things others have....meat, veggies or salad.

Gotta say...I'm soooooo looking forward to moving back to the US in August(I'm in Australia now...hence the nickname) so that I can FINALLY take advantage of all the great low carb products available there!!! Some 'Atkins' brand products are starting to appear here but they are usually available at health food stores and are like 3x the cost of the same product in the US. A box of Atkins muffin mix is like $18!!!! So we usually do without those sorts of treats, or if I'm really motivated, I'll get some soy flour and do them from scratch.

Anyway...I just wanted to bump this thread and I'm keen to catch up with others who are working at this low-carb thing. :)

Cheers....

DDU (who is going to eventually change her nick ....)

I'm on day four...doing well already with weight loss...but have been feeling a bit queasy and have a bit of a headache.

Now, the headache I'm heard/read is attributed to 'detoxing' from the carbs....is the queasy normal too?

Cheers.

DDU
