Anyone here following a low carb diet? I am not following Atkins per se, but I am on a low carb diet. I need to lose about 10lbs (15 would be great!!), and limiting my carb intake really works for me. I also walk a few miles each day.

What do you eat when you are low carbing? :hippie:

I did Atkins for 7 days and lost 6.5 pounds. This was about 2 1/2 weeks ago. Now, I'm just watching calories and not eating any sugar (candies, cookies, etc..) still having bread though (wheat). So today I had 2 slices of wheat toast, a Lean Cuisine meal and now need to figure something out for dinner. I like to not eat too much during the day so I can eat what I want for dinner. Now I've lost 7.5 pounds - not as much as no carbs/sugar, but it's still okay. I'm definitely hungrier than when on Atkins, but I can't eat eggs all week again :)

I did a low carb diet over a year ago to lose 10 lbs that had creeped up on me, and now, long after I lost it, I still eat that way. I just feel better overall with less carbs. My whole family now eats this way. DH has lost quite a bit of weight without even trying.

I eat yogurt or cottage cheese for breakfast. For lunch I usually eat low-carb frozen dinners (such as South Beach Diet), salads, chili, tacos, or wrap sandwiches, though sometimes I splurge on a burger and fries. Dinner is usually a low fat meat like chicken, vegetables, and whole grain pasta or rice. Lots of fruit and vegetables. Most carbs we do eat are whole grain, but we are not fanatical about it, we do pick up a pizza now and again, etc.

Started Atkins a week ago Monday.

Down 6.5 lbs so far.

I did Atkins a few years ago and lost 45lbs in 3 months. But I fell off the wagon and gained it all back + 10lbs due to a knee injury that prevented me from exercising the way I wanted for a long time.

Now I have set my goal even higher. But Atkins is the only diet that works for me.

Congratulations on your weight loss! :thumbsup2 I also have to forgo the sugar if I want to lose weight. I do all whole wheat grains as well. I'm not eating any breads right now but will gradually add them back in about 10 days. Breakfast is the killer for me. I am not too fond of egg and can do it a few times a week, but I can't eat them every day! :scared:

Thanks for the ideas! I love the South Beach mini pizzas! They are just the right size, and I love the flavor of the crust. I haven't tried any other meals, though...I am going to add them to my grocery list.

Best of luck to you! 6.5lbs is an awesome start!

It's definately tough to do. DH is diabetic and is "supposed" to follow a low carb diet but he doesn't.

I was on it when I had pregnancy diabetes in 2002. Even though I was pregnant, I was losing about a 1/2 pound a week. After DS was born, I weighed about 30lbs less than before I got pregnant. Didn't stay that way, now I'm just about 30lbs heavier again.

I'm trying to do the low carb diet again, but I have to find out from my doctor what the proper measurements would be for me. It's much different than when I was pregnant.

a low carb diet is a way of life for me. I had lost 80 pounds the first time, and over the last year just without thinking about it. and using more protiens then carbs, I lost another 24 pounds and did not even know till the doctor told me last month!

I have foods that I eat daily and that most people just might not like. I eat small meals, and I even eat sweets! hey...what ever I am doing works for me!

We've done South Beach on and off for years. For me I hate eggs too so I bought some protein powder *can use slim fast too* and used that as my breakfast with either some strawberries or bananas in it and ice blended up. It really helped with the carb cravings to have that in the morning.

For lunch we have salads most days but there are days where we do have a few carbs here and there.

Dinner consists of meat, grilled veggies and sugar free jello with 1/2 and 1/2 whipped cream or fresh fruits with the same 1/2 and 1/2 whipped cream mixture.

Weekends we are a little more lax with the diet just because we don't have the desire to do it constantly!

I like using lettuce in place of bread. 1 large leaf of iceberg lettuce, slice of pepper jack cheese, slice of turkey breast, few slices of roma tomatoes, few pickle slices and ranch dressing. I roll it up like a egg roll and it is sooo good.

I will try different deli meats and cheese but everything else stays the same.

We just started South Beach a few weeks ago and I love it!!! We have been off a bit with Easter but I believe I am still down 5 lbs...We also go off a little on the weekends.

Breakfast is usually an Atkins shake or an omlette, lunch a salad and for dinner chicken, fish or some sort of meat and lots of veggies. We are at the stage now that we can add in some whole wheat stuff.

I bought a book that is great called "The South Beach Diet, Good Fats, Good Carbs Guide" it is really great!

I am going to have to try the meals that other posters mentioned.

I have joined an exercise challenge on the WISH board too. I think it helps...water too!!!

Good luck!

I've been doing low carb for 2 years this May.

It was SO tough for the first 2 weeks and then, boom! It got so much better. I lost the cravings and boy do I love sweets so that's a big deal.

I've lost 46 pounds so far and have kept them off. It slowed down after about a year but at least I lost a pound here and there and didn't gain it back. I think if I added more exercise and stopped the low carb sweets, I'd loose more but I'm still happy with the results so far.

I tried doing it several years ago and only lasted a month.

I'm amazed that I've been able to do it this long. I love sweets (chocolate), bread, pasta, and pastries. Now I just have low carb sweets, low carb bread, low carb pasta and I cheat on vacation, holidays, and parties.

For breakfast I sometimes have: low carb cereal with light cream, low carb bagel or toast with low carb peanut butter, eggs, bacon, and low carb pancakes with low carb syrup.

For lunch I sometimes have: low carb wrap with meats or tuna, salad with tuna or meats or mozzerella cheese & tomatos, 2 cheeseburgers over lettuce, low carb pasta with shrimp scampi just to name a few.

For dinner I sometimes have: low carb pasta, steak (my favorite), chicken, fish/shrimp, Swedish meatballs, reg meatballs, pork chops, caulifower, Broccoli, green beans.

I snack on BBQ pork rhines, peanuts/almonds, cheese, sugar free jello with whip cream, low carb cakes from the bread aisle, low carb ice cream, low carb high protein Quaker Oats bars, celery and dip, and low carb chocolates to name a few.

I drink coffee with cream and Splenda, diet Iced Tea with Splenda, Coke Zero, Diet Dr. Pepper (reg, cherry and berries), Sprite Zero, Diet Sierra Mist etc...Thank goodness they came out with better diet sodas than there used to be.

It's great that there are so many things you can buy now that are low carb. Some good ones have disappeared (Campbell's low carb soup, Russel Stovers low carb choc chips) but there's still a lot to choose from and I think that is why I was able to succeed this time around. Now it's a way of life for me and I never though it could happen:goodvibes .

Great idea, Teresa! Thank you!

I just made some jello tonight! Thanks for the breakfast tips!

WOW, thank you for all of the ideas! I forgot about nuts as snacks!!!

I am on a low carb diet for the last 3 1/2 years. I've lost 65 pounds. I eats lots of protein, lower carb veggies, low carb breads and tortillas, and no sugar unless it is Splenda or Stevia.

That sounds good! But does it make you feel satisfied?

My doctor put me on an extremely strict low carb diet (stricter than DH) when I was pregnant. I called it the starvation diet, b/c I always felt hungry. I kept to the diet and lost weight, but I never felt satisfied.

Yes it is satisfying to me which I usually make 2 ata time. I have also added a slice of cooked bacon... My oldest ds who is 17 and eats like a horse loves them too!

Sometimes it can be messy if the lettuce splits but I dont mind that. Dont make it up before you need it because the lettuce sometimes gets soggy. I take what I need and assemble it when Im ready to eat. Also, I eat hard boiled eggs dipped in ranch dressing. Taste like deviled eggs....another

Another low carber here :wave2:

I started eating a low carb diet again about 8 weeks ago. I am down 23 lbs. but I will still like to lose about 20 -25 more. My doctor says I am within 5 lbs of my target weight should be but I have a pair of size 8 jeans just calling my name! I'm getting into my 12's now but I would really be happy and content at a size 10.

I follow Atkins more tha SB. I have really been doing well with finding things to fit into the diet (and I eat out alot!) One of my new favorite things are the Naked Chicken taco salads at Qdoba (Chipotle ones work too.) I just don't get the black bean salsa. They are super tasty and filling. I also really love the low carb wraps by Tumaro's. I get these in the deli of my grocery store but they also sell them on Amazon. I find so many uses for these. I make breakfast wraps (eggs, sausage and Tiger sauce or salsa), as a sandwich wrap, as pizza crust or as a cracker subsitute for my spinach dip or pepperoni and cheese. They are wonderful!!!

As for sweets, the best things I have found are the Dove sugar free dark chocolate raspberry creme candies. I find that I can eat one or two of these and any sweet cravings goes away! I find them in the candy aisle at Super Walmart. The Russel Stover tidbits are very good as well (taste very close to M&M's) I also LOVE Tropicana's sugar free orangeade. It is in with the regular sodas. It kind of tastes like Tang. I swear I go thru a 2 litre of this stuff every day!

I am a bit discouraged lately as the weight loss has stalled a bit. I think I need to cut back on the sugar substitutes and nuts a bit and see how things go! Modifying your eating habits can be challenging (and frustrating) but your health and well-being is worth all the hard work! Keep it up!
