Okay, heading to see the Mouse in less than two weeks. I just spent the last two weeks on Atkins and I'm going to stay on Induction (I only lost 4 pounds :( ) I'm already obsessing about what I will eat at WDW. B'fast is easy - even though we're going to be on 12th Floor Contemporary (donuts, cereal, etc) I'm going to go downstairs for eggs/bacon. I suppose lunch shouldn't be too hard - take bun off burger etc. And dinner I know I can handle.
It's the tempting snacks that are going to be a problem. Are the no-sugar ice creams really low carb? HOW low carb? I realize there is no way I'll be able to stay at 20g or under each day BUT I would like to stay under 40 so.
How have you dealt with this dilemma? What's good (for us low-carbers) in WDW??

As I'm going in 4 weeks, I'm also interested in this question.
I also follow a low-carb plan, but do plan on some treats. It's my birthday that week.....there WILL be some chocolate cake involved. And I want to taste a Zebra Dome.

I think one trick would be to be sure and eat till you are very satisfied with on program foods, so that you aren't hungry when passing all the kiosks. Also you can play the delayed gratification game...I'll pass up this Micky Bar now so I can have half a baked potato with my steak at Calif. Grill.....then maybe when that dinner comes you'll pass up the potato! I've played this game for weeks at work, passing up sweet rolls and birthday cakes because of that Zebra Dome I want to taste!

Also, if you're feeling strong willed, the buffets offer an opportunity for lots of meat and usually some nice veggies, but can you pass up the mac & cheese on the kids table??? If not, a full service restaurant may be a better idea. Be sure and tell your CM that you are on a restricted eating program. I know the chef at LeCellier in Canada at Epcot will come talk to you about what he can prepare. And many of these restaurants can offer you berries and whipped cream instead of a sugary dessert.

More ideas please .......

It's a lot easier to pass up the illegal treats if you aren't hungry. I agree with ibouncetoo - be sure that you eat your legal foods first until you are full.

I try to bring along some nuts for the "snack attacks". Almonds and macadamia nuts work well for me. They satisfy the craving, make me feel full (sometimes too full,) and really don't stall my weight loss - didn't even when on induction.

When I go in December, I'm planning to bring along (or maybe buy there at the grocery stop) the Atkins shake mix. It's easy to make and in a pinch, I can use it for a meal. I love the chocolate (they have vanilla and strawberry, too), and frequently use it as my "delaying" tactic. I tell just myself that if I still want xxxx after the shake, I'll have it. But first I have to drink the chocolate shake, LOL! So far, after the shake and a few nuts, I've never still wanted whatever xxxxx was. :teeth:

To tell the truth, I'm not too worried about the WDW trip. By then, I will have been eating the "Atkin's way" for 7 months. Believe it or not, I am not having any trouble passing up treats - can even walk by Krispy Kremes that are still warm without a single twinge. Refined carbs, especially when combined with trans-fat and sugar have lost their appeal. Hope that happens to you, too!

Good luck!

The first two days were a little challenging but I was psyched into doing the plan so that was more of a persuasion to be "good."

I don't crave sweets (well, okay, I could STILL go for a little chocolate :guilty:&nbsp) - I just want something to munch on from time-to-time. I miss that 'salty, crunchy' experience of chips (I will not eat pork rinds - yuck) and the cold, refreshment of frozen yogurt.

Contact Concierge about getting some berries and cream up to the lounge for breakfast. That should kill part of your appetite, and make you more able to make it to a 'real' breakfast place.

Concourse Steakhouse does great breakfasts, and all you have to do is tell them 'no potatoes or toast' and you should be good to go!!

We did CA Grill on our last trip, and they were SO accommodating!! We had the 'hearts of romaine' salad with no croutons and dressing on the side. DH had tuna and slices of avocado for his veggie, and I had the filet with avocado slices also. And berries and cream for dessert!!

We did Teppanyaki for dinner the night before, and we shared the entree, minus rice. We didn't leave hungry, either!!

Good Luck!!

Last week I tried some lightly salted soy nuts. THink they were "roasted". Very low carb, comparable to macadamias and almonds. They were great! Kind of made me feel like I was cheating and eating chips! Try some before you leave for WDW. They might just do the trick!

P.S. I won't eat pork rinds either.

For me something that makes the pork rinds easier to eat is to put some cream cheese on them!! I get the single serve packets at Sams or Super Walmart and put a dab on them which kind of masks the taste a bit.

I went this summer and managed to continue my weight loss trend while there.
I wrote a daily journal for everything I consumed.
Drink water like you have never done before.

We took almonds and mixed nuts that I pre-packed in single serving snack bags for when the urge to have something hit. (DH likes mixed nuts so I did that for him—they are a little higher in carbs.) If they are packed in single serving sizes, you can monitor your amount if you eat more than one serving. Also took the prepackaged single serving size planters peanuts and sunflower kernels. This preplanning certainly came in handy. We also bought veggies if the need hit. (We found that they sell small bagged carrots at one of the “fast food” places, so we split one.)

We always eat at Tepanyaki and California Grill, just did my best to stay legal there. We also ate in Italy—I just made better choices for my meal and washed it with mass quantities of water, yet went off and had alcohol their peach-champagne stuff that tastes sooooo good. I have also learned that it is ok to send back what I don’t eat, that is that I do not have to eat everything on my plate. I try to send back something at each meal I eat.

I did eat off plan in a major way one evening and gnawed my way through the dessert table, (I ate all desserts--EVERYTHING) at the AK Lodge Buffet—Mmmmm. I made wise choices at the other part of that buffet.

I drank water only at all meals, but I also drank off plan a “few” evenings, beer is my choice at whatever bar we ended up leaning against for the night.

Oh well, it was vacation and I rationed my poison. If you remember to control your cheat, or “ration your poison,” you may face the vacation a bit better. Remember this is a life-style change and there are occasions in life where you will eat off plan. In my mind the key is to step off in a small way and get right back on your plan. It will work, I had “bad” things every day yet kept it to where it wasn’t all day and the portions were smaller (except at AK).

We did an endless amount of walking and I think that the combination of rationing my poison and endless walking kept my weight gain to zero and actually allowed me to lose. When I returned I also returned to the basic induction-style of eating to make certain that I continued my loss.

Good luck, have fun, you can do it. Have fun on your vacation and actually plan a few cheats. If you fall don’t dwell just get back up and move onward. Enjoy your vacation you deserve it.
