My 4 year old LOVES Haunted Mansion but is TERRIFIED of the stretching room pre-show. Is there a way we can still get her on the ride without having to put her in that room first lol.

Sometimes they will let you skip the room - just ask one of the CMs at the front of the line right before you enter the building. I have done it before.

Yes you can miss that part out, we used to. Tell them when you reach the front door and they take you through the back to the doom buggy.

Oh that is so exciting! She will be so happy! Thanks!

We have small kids and have done this many times. Just ask the CM at the door to skip it :)

I tried to skip it twice last trip (July 2021) and was told no both times by the CMs out front. My finally convinced my son to get into the stretching room by wearing noise cancelling headphones, and we held him with his face hidden. I was super bummed they wouldn't let us skip it because he loves the ride otherwise.

You can help him desensitize and learn how to not be scared….

Show him a video about how it works….joke around about the dialogue, help him memorize it so he knows whats coming..

Most important, get home to know the timing for when the lights go out, and get him to scream along in the dark! He may find that funny as all the other people jump from his scream!

I would have requested a supervisor.

Same happened with us in august 2021. I wasn’t even asking to skip it that time… I was just asking if there was a way to skip it when I brought my kids and they said no

Have him scream? What about other kids in the queue that are a bit timid as well?

Yea! let out that anxiety with a “fun” scream or yell! Tell him its good to let out those scary feeling!

Scream may be the wrong word, yell “BOO” back at the scary things…

It important to give them a sense of control against things they find scary. They have a defense against them, and then feel empowered to deal with those emotions.

When our kids were scared of thunderstorms. we made a game of mimicking the thunder sounds. They would use their voices to try to sound the most like the last thinderclap.

Eventually, they looked forward to the next one to see who could sound the most like it.

You can switch the stretching room. We do this all the time with our 3 year old. Just tell the cast member as you enter teh first waiting room (before the stretching room) that you want to switch. They will direct you to a back door and tell you to go through that door all the way an then turn left and meet another cast member to go into the waiting area.

Huh. My mom has severe claustrophobia and has skipped the stretching room many times. She won’t be happy if she has to miss HM.

I'm not sure I've ever asked to speak to a manager in my life, but given my past experiences I think I definitely would if this happened.

It requires nearly zero effort on the part of the CM to let you skip the room.

Agreed - they just hand you a card and send you down the hall to the exit area, then they lead you to the ride.

Something else that required little effort on the part of the CM because there is a separate line for this purpose - Once I was at EE and as a solo traveler had used an LL instead of the single rider queue because I wanted the front row. The CM didn’t seem happy but when I pointed to the line for the front row he let me enter it.
