Lounge Chairs by the Pool?

Hi,

Just wondering if any of you Magic veterans can help me out with this.

A friend of mine was on jury duty and a gentleman she was sitting with saw her looking at her DCL brochure. He told her to make sure she got by the pool by 7 AM or she would be out of luck as far as a chair goes on days at sea.

True?? And if so, does that apply to the adult only pool also?

She didn't know the guy so she wasn't about to start asking him all kinds of questions.

It's true for the kids pool (Mickey pool) that it gets full early. The family pool, I would say so, too. Adult, somewhat. But, people do move around and you'll get something even if you go later. It just might not be your first choice. If you are without kids or your kids are on their own, get a chair on deck 10...much easier, all of the time. Quieter, too. My feeling...go when you want, take what you get and don't worry about it!

We are a group of 27, some with kids, some without. It's not like I thought we'd all get to sun together or anything. :0)

I've found that this really holds true on ant cruise. People do tend to get there early (some as early as 6 am... HELLO!!! go back to bed!!!) to stake out the "best" spot. I just can't see worrying about it.

I wouldn't stress about getting 27 chairs together. With large groups, you aren't ever going to have all 27 doing the same thing at the same time except when everybody shows up for the scheduled dinners. There are too many other things for folks to do besides lie in the sun, and everybody will have different ideas.

My DW & I spent our "sun" time at the adult pool area, upstairs on Deck 10 & NEVER had any trouble finding chairs, regardless of time of day.

I expect it may be an issue on the larger ships w/4000 + passengers, but we did not experience any difficulty.

Disney does state that no chairs can be reserved. Still, people do tend to put their "stuff" on chairs very early.

If I am there and no one has come to their chair in well over an hour or so, I am going to move the "stuff". On second thought, I might just go to deck 10 and get whatever chair I want and just come down to nine to hop in the pool. I do not like confrontation, especially on vacation!

We just got back from the Magic and the boat was sold out. We never had any trouble getting a chair around the adult pool. There were also lots of chairs up on deck 10. I absolutely would not worry about getting up at 7:00 am to reserve a chair. If your children spend much time at the pools I would be surprised. They are really small and there is usually a really long line for the Mickey slide. It is the kind of thing where they might want to swim for an hour or so not all day. You will be busy doing lots of different things and so will everybody else so the chairs open up. I also was in a panic to get off at Castaway to get a chair as I read that they do not have enough. There were plenty of chairs for everyone! I wish I had not been so stressed about it. In addition, there was always room in the shows. Maybe not the very front but we always got seats and did not get there more than 5 to 10 min. early. Sometimes I think reading too much on these boards tends to get a person a little stressed. THe point of a cruise is to have fun a relax. If you miss one brunch or character autograph or whatever, so what!

I'm not worried about getting a poolside chair since I will have 2 young children with me. If they are in the water, I will be right beside them and believe me, they would not tolerate sitting still in a chair near the pool.

However, I have read lots of comments about people flouting the rules and "reserving" chairs with towels, books, etc. and not appearing until hours later. Is it really a big deal to move these things? I'm thinking especially the chairs reserved with a towel that could have easily been left by a lazy person not bothering to return the towel to the bin.

I agree with that!!! We rushed to get off the ship but 2 hours later there were still plenty of chairs around for everyone!
I did witness chair hogging on the ship though, I had my daughter in the pool before 7am and along came a kid around 8 or 9 years old with an arm full of clothes and shoes...she put some clothes and shoes on about 6 chairs and off she went. I saw her pass by with her family an hour or so later going to breakfast and showing them what chairs she had taken and they still were not in those chairs by the time we passed again 2 hours later!

I find this chair "saving" thing so silly! Whenever we go to a pool
(on a cruise or the beach, or the local park) I NEVER need more then
one chair! If the kids come out of the pool for a drink or a rest, they simply sit on the end of my chair. Then they are OFF again. Even when DH is with us, we tend to move around alot. LOL!I run off to do something and he watches the kids for a few, then I come back and he wants to go see/do something. I would faint if we were all wanting to sit at the same time! That's what DINNER is for.LOL!

I also never had any problems getting a chair, at the pool or at Castaway Cay. I tend to prefer the shade anyway..

On the 3/23, there were nevre any chairs left by the Goofy pool by 9AM. On the 2nd day I just moved the white disney towel. Never saw anyone come near the chair. On the 3rd day, I hung out on deck 10 and loved it. My children were 7&9, so they would check in with me every now and then.

I wouldn't worry about it. I'll tell you the amount of time we spent at any of the pools - 0 - my 5 year old daughter loves pools and swimming, but hated the pools onboard. Go figure.

I don't like swimming so that's a given... but my daughter didn't like the Mickey Pool because it's too shallow and the Goofy pool was too small and WAY too warm.
