I am really interested in renting points. I have been trying to educate myself, but I still have a lot of questions.

1st of all, what are my chances of being able to get points/reservation for a studio for 2 weeks in August? Am I too late?

2nd do I rent points or a reservation? What's the difference???

Next I can add the dining plan correct??

Last, do I have to buy park tix in order to add the dining? I already have 1 day tix from 2 years ago that I would like to just upgrade when we arrive.

oh wait, one more thing, can I still use ME?

I am so excited. I would really LOVE to get a studio in the Epcot Resort area. I just need to try and see if its all possible and how to do it. These boards are so helpful. Any responses will be greatly appreciated!!!

First, visit the rent/trade board and find someone willing to rent to you. Tell them the dates you are looking for and see what availability is -- my guess is it might be tight for August at this point.

You can add dining but it's not "free dining". You don't need tickets to add dining on a DVC reservation.

Yes, you can use ME.

Renting points and a reservation are the same. You are renting a reservation period as you can not rent points nor can an owner rent you points (as per the contact) I would gues you are thinking a confimred week at a speific resort as compared to you saying I want to stay at this resort for these dates in X sixe unit. At this point you may just wnat to have somone who is willing to rent check what is available and base your decision form there. You can always give them options as well if you want the Epcot area ask them to bbok that if it is available but be aware and agree to the terms of the rental first. ME is free an needs to be booked by whoever you rent from the DP is cahrged at check in and also neds to be booked by the person you are renting the points from. As far as tickets you are on you own and can buy where vener you like.
hope this answers some of your questions

Look at the top of the page to the DVC Points Charts to calculate your stay.

The owner controls the reservation until you check in. You won't be able to call Member Services to confirm the reservation. You probably won't be able to cancel or change the reservation and get anything back. The member may want full payment to make the reservation if the room is available for your dates.

And, even if you go during free dining period, you can't get free dining when you stay on DVC points (like dannyh23 said).

The critical question in renting is not whether you can get DDP, DME, etc (that answer is yes).

It is whether renting a DVC reservation is right for your family. You really need to go to school and be sure you understand all of the ramifications of renting a ressie vs. making a simple hotel reservation -- the two concepts are worlds apart.

A good place to start is the FAQ stickies on the Rent/Trade board. They contain a wealth of critical information. The key points to remember are:

1. All dealings are between you and the owner you rent from. Disney is not involved in any way, and will not intervene if you encounter problems. Remember that you are essentially renting from a competitor of Disney, so they are not going to help you straighten anything out.
2. Mutual trust and good communications are critical to a successful rental, because there is risk for both parties in a rental.
3. Any change in plans may produce big problems. In many scenarios, the owner may be unable to help you if your plans change. You need to thoroughly understand your owner's payment expectations and cancellation policies. If there is a chance that your plans might change, a DVC rental probably is not a great idea.
