Lots of Availability

Not looking at RIV studios, I'm looking for 2BR or 3BR which has had at least available sporadic nights for last few weeks in August, right now it shows NOTHING for AUG/SEPT/OCT/NOV/DEC for any room type. It's like the resort was taken offline.

RIv has been like that for September to December for a long time. Sporadic days here and there would pop up and go but for months it’s been gone.

I know because I was trying to change a few October days and get a few nights in September and December.

Not GV but all 1 or 2 bedrooms.

After this morning's mini-maintenance I was just able to get a Studio for the night I wanted in Oct at SSR. Now I don't have to use a 1BR for just me!

That is my guess too, they probably were not able to put canceled rooms back in inventory., they piled up. They entered all of them and boom, lots of availability.

I think this is the case and still is after this morning. I was up early and did a search and there was nothing. Site went down for maintenance and when it came back up there was random availability at different resorts, nothing like Monday but enough that it didn’t seem like cancellations that happened in the 15 mins the site was working before “maintenance.” I think it’s an on going problem where they are having to do something to get canceled rooms back in inventory probably going back to the couple day shut down. It seems like this inventory isn’t being checked by waitlists either with the amount of people I’ve seen saying they picked up the rooms they had waitlisted.

Interesting. I had text/email that a room I've been waiting for was available a little after midnight PDT. By time I checked this morning it was gone and my waitlist never cleared I guess I better start staying up late.

So I've been thinking about it and wonder if the rooms showing up are rooms that DVC had booked for the cash side but are releasing to free up points to use for the extension of points for international owners.

There is something but we really have no idea what. People dropping reservations don't all do it at the same time. A few rooms might show up and then are gone especially for popular resorts/dates. It could be Disney releasing rooms they had reserved, it could be that released rooms aren't going back to inventory right away and then they are running a process to release them all at once, maybe something with the waitlist, etc. It just doesn't show as normal activity but it could very well have a reasonable explanation. Hoping it's not a glitch but there are some weird things going on (such as the system saying a room is available but the calendar doesn't show it, rooms showing as 0 points). Just Disney IT at its finest.

Why especially in Florida?

Because if there were regulatory rules in place during the pandemic - as there were in Hawaii, as your DVC example - it would override the POS. Florida has never mandated closure of much of anything in the last 18 months, so that regulatory override has never existed for DVC in Florida.

bit tedious to do it everyday but if it saves a ton of points

We had one this past Spring Break and got one with a savannah view! Right off the lobby, cheap points, and animals galore! It was awesome!!!

Yeah I don’t want to Jinx myself but I’m up to 12 nights out of 14 then I’m going to walk it all by about 10 days.

Ive tried countless times to properly walk a reservation by booking 7 days ahead to start with but I never have any luck getting it that way.

Lots of UK people I see are cancelling 2 or 3 week reservations they have since the borders are still closed. One lady was trying to rent a 20 day vacation she had booked and we all tried to tell her that here in the US we dont usually take 20 day vacations so it might be tough to rent out.

Yes but again that doesn't explain a whole bunch of resorts showing availability all at once across a lot of dates including some of the hardest dates to get. Even if 20 days were dropped that would be one room at one resort because they wouldn't be coordinating a drop with many other owners across all the resorts. That would get picked up quickly if it's desirable at all. The availability that has been showing up has been much more extensive than that.

I'm hoping that this wasn't a glitch that allowed us all to book rooms that aren't really available, but instead the result of a glitch that was for some reason preventing the rooms from looking available. I booked a room for dates that I had a cash reservation for thinking that finding the time in DVC wasn't likely to happen. So, my question now is whether I go ahead and cancel the cash room now or wait a little longer to make sure I have a room at all? I know that there have been some really good responses to inventory glitches in the past, where people got room upgrade (ie, value studio to savannah view), so-so responses like the moves from Poly studios to Poly hotel rooms, and ick responses (ie, Copper Creek to Saratoga Springs). Have they ever said, sorry, we can't honor your reservation at all? I booked for Wine & Dine race weekend, and even cash rooms are sold out for that weekend at all but 3 resorts.

There was a similar glitch that showed a bunch of availability for VGC. They're doing it really early in the morning too. It's how I've missed multiple bookings, as the resale borrowing "glitch" is still alive and well.

Do you remember how long it took for the phone calls to start? A few people ask MS and was told it looked ok. I had hoped by now it was really real and our trip was pretty well set.

I don't, but it seemed to be pretty quick after it happened. I did make 2 updates to my reservations in Feb when availability popped up and MS was able to combine some reservations for me. The CM said everything looked good on her side when I asked.
