Lots of Availability

I just cancelled our December trip last evening due to the large number of Covid cases. Even though we are vaccinated, I don’t want to risk bringing something home to the grandkids right before the Christmas holiday ..... just not worth it. It should have been better by now, but what can you do?

Just wondering if there are others like me that are creating openings in availability.

I also moved our Dec trip to Feb since my kids can't be vaccinated yet. I'm really hoping that I can get them vaccinated by Christmas so we can see my parents.

When I went in July, I was not able to get any DHS days at about 1 month out. At the time, I had to buy tickets as my AP had expired during the pandemic and I didn't realize they could be renewed. This weekend I was able to get my AP recovery renewal, so this was my first chance to do park ressies for my 9/24/21 trip...I was a little worried it might be hard to get something again - but park availability was no problem - all green, all parks, all days. The passholder park reservation probably played some advantage there, though I did wonder whether Covid cancellations might have helped. Either way I'm happy - no plans to change my next two trips in late September and early December...and even hoping maybe the crowds might be down a bit as a small side-perk. Not thrilled at the return of the indoor mask requirement for vaccinated folks...but as long as there's not an outdoor mask requirement, I can abide.

Wow and wow. Did you get the week in one shot or day by day? I've been looking and about a week ago I could have done a week with one night here there and everywhere. But we are about 50 years to old to be moving every day. We only head to the park for 4 or 5 hours , so we don't like to be homeless for too long.

I got dec 6-9 in one shot then single days have been popping up randomly. Im lucky i have a job where i can refresh the screen every couple minutes at my desk on my phone. Days pop up and they disappear just as fast so you got act fast

I have been stalking Feb. 25 for a standard view studio at GF. Logged on tonight and there seemed to multiple rooms available that night. Dropped my BWV boardwalk view to switch to GF.

DD and I are headed down for the Princess 10k that weekend and can’t wait to stay at GF. Dh won’t set foot in there so we only get to do it on girls trips.

VGF is a terrific place for Princess. Your husband is silly, but it IS great for buddy trips!

DVC inventory hasn't had capacity reduced. Once the resorts reopened all rooms were available to book.

How is this known?

Because as per the POS all rooms must be made available for members to book. Maintenance and shut downs would be the only exclusions to that.
Wouldn't one exceptions to this be if Disney used their points to pull rooms and let them sit empty? I don't know if they would leave money on table for this and not sure how many points they have but believe it's one way they could reduce capacity. Also they have extended points for many and I believe they do this by trading future points disney owns to owners for poInts that are expiring. If they do this, it would be perfectly legal for them to use those points to pull rooms for reduced capacity correct?

Yes, DVC, as an owner, can book rooms with their own points. But, that can only happen if they have released all the rooms for booking to other owners as well.

They can not book them ahead of time so they never show up. The points they are giving owners with expired points are not future year, but from the current UY for that owner. That is why they could do it,

For example, if someone had banked 2018 points that expired last year on August 31, 2020, they were given points that could be used during the extended times,

DVD would not have been allowed to exceed the borrowing rule put in place for others.

Not sure why having no availability less than month out for the newest resort would be surprising? If people cancel at this point the points go into holding. Also not really surprised regarding the lack of availability at RIV for a Standard View studio. It's significantly fewer points than preferred so it's going to go fast, just like BWV Standard View Studios.

Not looking at RIV studios, I'm looking for 2BR or 3BR which has had at least available sporadic nights for last few weeks in August, right now it shows NOTHING for AUG/SEPT/OCT/NOV/DEC for any room type. It's like the resort was taken offline.

So I've been thinking about it and wonder if the rooms showing up are rooms that DVC had booked for the cash side but are releasing to free up points to use for the extension of points for international owners. I am still waiting for my August UY extension points to show up and they said that there were more international owners with Aug UY's being extended than the previous UY's so there is a delay in the points being loaded. I was told that the manual steps to process it have been completed and there's just something else they're waiting on....maybe freeing up points?? Just a random thought with no real evidence lol.

that does make some sense. I don’t buy the thought of availability being attributed to a bunch of owners all cancelling. It happened all at once, so your idea makes way more sense.

I took part in the Monday’s feeding frenzy. Aka a unicorn event. I picked up a few days I was watching. Bwv standard studios in November, was shocking. Grabbed a few days in February. It was definitely a Black Friday sale. I was actually on at 7:00am when it began. I couldn’t book and/or modify fast enough in some cases. Still didn’t get my November night for my daughter so she doesn’t have to move, plus this extra inventory didn’t help with my august waitlist for 2 nights, end of the month. But I was happy with my purchases. 😂

My thought on the inventory, maybe it got caught up in a glitch since the big upgrade? I canceled at least 4-5 days over the last few weeks and none of them showed up available afterwards. Were they falling into a hole. Maybe waitlist we’re finally getting processed and the replaced points were never put back into inventory? Were rooms put back into inventory that were held back for emergency use? We’ll never know.

This morning there was some additional availability, although not nearly as much as Monday and could have been normal cancellations.
I was able to pick up a few days thanksgiving week in a grand villa at the boardwalk. Copper creek grand villa had some openings as well.
Then 2 hours later, seeing dwarves....

That is my guess too, they probably were not able to put canceled rooms back in inventory., they piled up. They entered all of them and boom, lots of availability.
