I have had DVC for 4 years now and I still don't understand some of the rules! I am wondering, if I have points available in my December 2008 use year but I plan on going to Disney in December 2009, do I have to bank my points from 2008 by July 2009 if I make a reservation now? My second question is, if you make a reservation at your home resort but want to change to another resort, can you do that without losing points? Thanks for help in advance!

Your 2008 points will expire the last day of November this year. If you want to carry those points forward to use in December, yes, you need to bank them by the end of July.

I'd bank them now if you have no plans to use them until then. If any special occasion were to pop up that you'd like to have those points back before December you cannot retrieve them, however you could borrow what you need from the 2009 use year back into this one. Keep in mind that banking and borrowing are final transactions.

For your reservation question: you will not lose any points when transferring a reservation from your home resort over to another. One note: if you make a reservation for the 2009 uy and wish to have the banked 2008 points applied, double check with MS that they are the ones being used (you might want to have those 2009 points left to bank into the 2010 uy.)

Let me add that you need to bank the points prior to making the reservation (and you can do it all in the same call) or else MS will have to use your 2009 points to make the Dec 2009 reservation. You may or may not be allowed to substitute 2008 points if you bank after you make the reservation so it's just easier and safer to do it immediately.

Be aware that you cannot use any points you currently have banked or borrowed that are still in the Dec, 08 UY. IF you change reservations later and the new reservations is less than the currently one, you'll have those points to deal with and possibly bank IF POSSIBLE. If you're looking at Dec, you're already at the 7 month window so you better get on the phone ASAP and try to get something. It's very possible you may not get anything so wait list on that call if need be.

For none transferred points they would expire 30 Nov, 2009 if banked to the 2008 UY. For transfered points, it depends on the UY of the points, if Dec 08 pts, they aren't good for this Dec unless banked. Transferred points are bankable and in the past the banking windows have not applied to transferred points. Just check the UY of the transferred points and call back to make sure you are MS are on the same page.

The 67 points will still be there, you just can't bank them with your other points. You still have to use them before Nov 30, 2009. Maybe you could send a friend on a long weekend trip ?
