LOST - Last Season (NO SPOILERS)

I think it's coming down to one side protecting the world from evil, while the other side is trying to get that evil out. Which side is which is still up in the air for me. I know it's pointing more and more to Jacob being good, but there is no OMG moment in that realization, so I still think Flocke is going to end up being the good guy.

This being Hell or even Purgatory (for the Catholics out there) is not even on the table for me. Producers have told us they're not going with this easy out. I have to believe it's going to be so much more than that.

I guess I liked the episode well enough and it's great to know Richard's story, but I think with so few episodes left, isn't it about time to step the game up some? Heck, in earlier seasons, it was HARD not to watch the next episode for a lot of those endings. There really isn't a lot of that, "on the edge of your seat," this season, and my gosh, this is the finale!!! The suspense should be killing us.

I also think that it has nothing to do with hell or religion, just good and bad, the good and the bad in humans and how things can make us change our minds. I also think we are going to see a OMG moment, maybe Locke is not evil after all.

I loved tonight's episode. Richard is so interesting.

I think that now things will have to start popping. There are tons of rumors out there and I hope that some of these rumors are wrong!

I agree with you Planogirl, Richard's life was interesting. Poor him, all he wanted was to save his wife :(

I try not to listen to rumors.

That is what I kept telling my DH last night. Damon and Cuse and all of them have said over and over again that it is not purgatory. That to me means that it is also not hell. I think they (the characters on the show) meant a metaphorical hell as opposed to a real one.

I felt bad for Richard. The doctor was disgusting. I can't believe that he was holding his medical abilities over peoples head and robbing them for his care. Sickening. Oh, and the priest ticked me off as well. Denying him forgiveness? I think he needs to reread that bible of his. Oh course, I can totally see something like that happening ages ago.

Really we didn't get to learn much last night. Now we know why the statue is busted and how Richard and the Black Rock got there, but not much else.

At the end where Hurley was "translating" what Isabella wanted to tell Richard and Isabella appeared next to Richard - do you think Richard could actually hear her, or did they just stop showing Hurley translate? Remember Hurley told Richard to close his eyes? Or maybe Isabella was talking to Richard telepathically or something?

I agree with everyone else - it's so great to finally have Richard's story, although I kind of thought he was around much longer than the 1800's. I also thought his story would be more.....interesting?.....than it was. Don't get me wrong, I thought it flowed well and was a good explanation of how he came to be on the island, but I expected more of a blockbuster-type explanation.

And I don't think they're in hell or purgatory. When they were on the beach in the beginning of the episode and Richard told them they were all dead and they were in hell, it just didn't sit right - what a cop out!

No, what happened, my DH changed the channel.

Sorry, I have never watched the show before (V) so what I saw had no significant meaning. Just that the aliens? were offering health care. It seemed like it was a bad thing (sort of like how it is here in the US).

The hell thing was a joke!! Just like some of the other things they've thrown out this season...why can't I think of anything right now...oh like Hurley with Adam and Eve..."what if this is really us?" Richard thought it was hell and they were all dead, but Jacob told him it wasn't.

I think Hurley definitely translated the whole encounter with Isabella, they just cut him out for the sake of the scene.

Was I the only one who went, Oh!! Hurley sees dead people, like Miles sees how they die!!? I can't believe I never realized it. I always knew he was seeing dead people, but I always thought they were actually Jacob or MIB.

So the island is a cork. I saw that on the spoiler thread last week and I really wish I hadn't! It seems like a bit of a let down to me. Jacob is trying to bind MIB to the island because he will enleash evil on the world? Like we don't have enough of that already?

I guess this means in the flash sideways that MIB is dead since the world doesn't seem anymore evil. Looking more and more like the flash sideways are really the show's epilogue.

I was sorta disappointed in the episode, but that probably had a lot to do with my daughter being a totally PITA last night! lol

ITA. I was all bummed...not a pirate at all! Stupid! he should have been a bad *** pirate! :thumbsup2

I'm not convinced there has to be an OMG moment for everything. I have no doubt in my mind that Jacob and the MIB are exactly what they seem to be. The MIB admitted he is the smoke monster, The smoke monster killed the slavers and Isabella (although I can see an argument that the slavers were bad and deserved it, you can't say the same for Isabella). The OMG moment will come elsewhere.

I guess they didn't have the Hippocratic oath back then.

I agree. I think that was just because Richard was convinced it was Hell, not becuase it actually was Hell.

Can we take the veiled political discussions elsewhere? This isn't even about Lost, why bring it up here?

well, at least we know how the statue was destroyed.

Agree with Amy and Harley. It wasn't a bad episode, just a bit anti-climactic.
I think I was expecting too much. Also agree with N. Bailey that I think we should be in suspense every week now that it's coming down to the wire but it's just not happening and that surprises and disappoints me.

I didn't find Richard's storyline with his wife all that interesting. We already knew he arrived as a slave on the Black Rock, we just didn't know when or why. I was suprised a wooden ship could obliterate a giant stone statue ;)

I also kept wondering if they are going to pull the switcheroo and have Jacob as the bad guy and MIB as the good guy but last night seemed to seal the deal that they (the writers) have been truthful on that part (Jacob = good and MIB = evil) so I no longer think they will do that.

I think the difference between the dead people that Hurley sees and those that the MIB impersonates are that only Hurley can see the dead that he has been talking to (which is why he was thought to be crazy) while everyone can see the dead person being impersonated by MIB.

Maybe the OMG moment will be that Jacob and the MIB are essentially the same person... Jacob represents the good side and MIB represents evil? But they are as one which is why MIB could never kill Jacob himself because the island won't you let kill yourself??? :confused3

The smoke monster was Isabella. He appeared as her to manipulate Richard into thinking they were in hell and Jacob was the devil, in order to convince him to kill Jacob.

I haven't read the whole thread but thought i would jump in with my comments about last night's episode.

I completely agree. I was expecting so much more from this episode and was disappointed. I thought it was good, just not as sensational as I thought it would be. I also find it hard to believe that a wood ship could destroy the stone statue.

I also kept wondering if they are going to pull the switcheroo and have Jacob as the bad guy and MIB as the good guy but last night seemed to seal the deal that they (the writers) have been truthful on that part (Jacob = good and MIB = evil) so I no longer think they will do that.

I agree with this also.

I liked when Hurley was speaking Spanish to Isabella on the beach and Jack wanted to know if he was talking to Jacob. Hurley basically told Jack to butt out because it isn't always about him. I thought that was great! Way to go Hurley!

The smoke monster was Isabella. He appeared as her to manipulate Richard into thinking they were in hell and Jacob was the devil, in order to convince him to kill Jacob.

D'oh! I knew that. None-the-less I'm on the "we're looking for surprises where there are none" side. Dead is Dead and Jacob is Good.

Question for the Christains/New Testament scholars on this board. Did that page from St. Luke (when the priest took Ricardo's bible, it was open to a page from the book of St. Luke) have any significance?

Ugh! Must resist...I haven't purposely read a spoiler in about 3 years. You're killing me! :teeth:

I don't know much about the Bible, but the scripture that was being featured was Luke 4:24, I think.. which is: “And he said, Verily I say unto you, No prophet is accepted in his own country.”

It could have also been Luke 4:25, which is : "But I tell you of a truth, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elias, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when great famine was throughout all the land;"

So.. I don't know what significance those might have, but that's what was on the page. :upsidedow

ETA: I found this on the Lostpedia in reference to Luke, chapter 4:

"In Chapter 4, Jesus has returned from his time in the desert, where he thwarted the temptation of the Devil, and attends Temple in Nazareth where he cast out "a spirit of an unclean demon" from a possessed man and healed a woman with a great fever."

The MIB didn't kill Isabella. She died off Island and appeared as an aberration on the Black Rock.
