Lost Foods..... What happened? Where'd they go?

Cheyita - I remember the purple horseshoe intro, too!!!! does that mean we are getting old???

I remember when they introduced the blue diamonds - I'm the old one.

Anyone remember the "Slo-Poke" candy.... it was a caramel sucker of sorts? Well, they later came out with a chocolate covered version... I think it was called a Black Cow? I'd KILL for one of those when it's that time of the month!!!

I miss Pink Grapefruit flavored Snapple. I used to drink it by the gallon. Then it just disappeared. Not from my childhood but still in my past.

When I was a kid they used to make "cheese kisses"--little hershey's kiss-shaped cheese bites wrapped in wax paper. This was in L.A. They were American cheese and my mother put them in my lunch box. I still think about those!

Also, I used to LOVE Pepperidge Farm's Broccoli and Cheese Pastries from the frozen foods section. Why did they have to go?

Oh what I wouldn't give for a Zagnut candy bar!! :thumbsup2
Im not sure if they stopped making them or if they just don't sell them around here anymore. :confused3

Banana flavored pudding pops. Mmmmm.

Most of the stuff that has been mentioned I have definitely seen in these parts.
And here is a website for all those old time candies. www.oldtimecandy.com

Unfortunately, they don't make the Mararthon bar anymore, but they have a candy bar called the Curly Wurly that is very similar.

Our markets must be different. We do still have cheese hot dogs (in fact there are some in my fridge right now!). We can also still buy Bubble Tape and Bottle Caps (they are in a purple package). Are Dip Sticks "Lick-em-aid"? We still get those too. Definitely no Fudge Sode tho! :crazy2:

I miss the "flying saucer" candies that are wafers with little candy beads inside. Can't find them even at the specialty candy shops anymore. :guilty:

Wegmans sells the flying saucer candies all the time! My kids like them.

Jello pudding pops. Nothing like them!

Chapelle flavored carbonated water was really good, then, gone.

We still have Jello pudding pops here in MN.

I really miss Stixlets (sp???) and PEANUT BUTTER Twix bars. They used to be my favorite and now I can't find them :(

EYA: I also miss the various characters that used to be featured on McDonald's commercials: Fry Kids, Hamburgler and Grimacw. Grimace was my fav...

Amanda, that Hometown Grocer is a terrific link. They have Honey Roasted Os Cereal ... which I adore and can never find around here!

I miss potato stronganoff Hamburger Helper. When I moved into my first apartment, I made it all the time.

UPDATE!!!

Amazon.com sells it by the case! Who knew?

Does anyone remember Spanish Bar cake? My DH says it was a cake they had at the A & P when he was a kid (40 some years ago) He asks for it every time I go grocery shopping, it's become a family joke.

We have those here in PA. Some of the little 'old time' general stores still carry them for 5 or 10 cents a piece.

I miss Marathon candy bars!!

And, yep, I remember the days of no red M&M's. Or blue for that matter.

There is a version of the Marathon bar, but I have only seen them in England and Aruba. They are called "Twirl" and just as caramelly delicious as the original. In fact, I think I remember seeing them at the UK pavillion in EPCOT...I'll have to look for them when we go in September.

Magic Middle cookies made by Keebler (?). They were a mini chocoate chip cookie with soft chocolate on the inside. I ate cases of them in college!

for those of you who miss Marathon candy bars - next time you are in Epcot, go to the UK and buy a Curly Whirly. it's the same thing!!

DD6 loved it when we were at WDW, my neighbor just got back from a business trip to the UK, and I asked for Curly Whirlys. He couldn't remember exactly what I asked for, and tried to come close. He brought back Cadbury Twirls - not the same thing at all. The girls still liked them and think it's cool that they got candy from England.

My most favorite cereal growing up was Kaboom. I saw a box at a bodega in NYC about 7 years ago and was ready to buy it but then I saw the expiration date had looooong passed :crazy2:

Does anyone remember The Pop Shoppe where you could buy all different flavors of soda in glass bottles as they were being made...right off the conveyor belt ?
