Lost Foods..... What happened? Where'd they go?

Where did you find them? Here in the twin cities metro I can find the popsicle version of pudding pops, but they do not measure up to the Jello pudding pops

Those are the Jello puddin pops (see my post on the previous page), and the article discussing the differences.

lol You must have been typing as I was editing. They actually came out last summer or the summer before. Someone here tipped me off on them and I bought them. I didn't care for them...they tasted terrible. Then again this year my mother bought them for me and now they are just sitting in my freezer. I tried them again and they do not taste like they used to.

Well, these aren't lost, but they have new company now - Lucky Charms were just "pink hearts, yellow moons, orange stars, green clovers and blue diamonds." I remember vividly when they first introduced purple horseshoes into the mix!

I remember the 'new blue diamonds' when I was seven or eight.

Reggie bars. Miss those-but Goo Goo clusters are close.
Koogle peanut butter. I loved the eyes on the seal!
Snapple sodas. Way back before Quaker bought Snapple (and sold them, for that matter) they had the BEST sodas: Tru Root Beer, Cream Soda and the best Black Cherry.
The Pop Shop. Perhaps only a LI thing, but they had great soda.

I have a Burger Chef apron - the kind the employees wore. My mom or dad (can't remember which) worked at one either when I was very very young or right before I was born.

I think I know where that was! :teeth:

When I was a kid they used to make "cheese kisses"--little hershey's kiss-shaped cheese bites wrapped in wax paper. This was in L.A. They were American cheese and my mother put them in my lunch box. I still think about those!

Also, I used to LOVE Pepperidge Farm's Broccoli and Cheese Pastries from the frozen foods section. Why did they have to go?

YESS TO both. I forgot about Cheese Kisses and as to the pasteries sometimes you can get them at the P.F. outlet store. I think they are only food service now.

But what about the icing. Do you have the recipe for that..The Spainish Bar was nothing w/out the icing. I want some now...right now!!!

Whip 'n Chill - it was kind of like Jell-o but it would automatically separate and leave a foamy layer on top. Loved it as a kid.

Ahhh, Burger Chef!
I was a 'teen worker' at our local burger chef.
Burger Chef was a franchise that was bought out in the late 1980's, by Hardees. The independent owners were able to buy a few more years of use of the "Burger Chef" name, and then had to either convert to Hardees, or change altogether. Our local Burger Chef went independent in 1994, but they still use the 'hat' logo to punch holes in the 'family size fry' bags!

I still have a couple of different aprons from the uniforms , my name tag, and a couple of employer christmas presents with the burger chef logo. I still have a white tshirt, and a small cooler, both of which are still in the plastic. I wonder if there is a market for this stuff?!?!?!?

Oh Yeah!!!! It WAS Hardees and NOT Burger King like I said before!!!!! Ours changed to Hardees when a big mall was built in our area. It was never the same. I bet you could make TONS of money on Ebay!!

Here's a cream cheese/powdered sugar icing:

Allspice Cream Cheese Frosting
Cream cheese frosting with a little extra something. This is a good frosting for spice cakes that contain allspice. Prep Time: approx. 20 Minutes. Original recipe makes 3 cups ( 10 servings).

1 (3 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
1/3 cup butter, softened
3/4 teaspoon ground allspice
4 cups confectioners' sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoons milk

Directions
1 In a medium bowl beat cream cheese, butter, and
allspice until blended. Gradually add confectioners' sugar,
and mix until well-combined. Stir in vanilla. Gradually
add milk, beating until frosting is of spreading consistency.

Here's a variation with an icing recipe:

Spanish Bar Cake with Nutmeg Icing
3 cups seedless raisins (15 oz.)
3 cups water
2 1/2 - 2 3/4 cups flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 cup oleo or butter, soft
2 eggs
1 1/2 cups white sugar

Cover raisins and cook 20 minutes. Simmer after they start to boil. Drain. Keep 1 cup liquid. Cool raisins and liquid well, add raisins to cream mixture after eggs. Add dry ingredients plus liquid. Bake in 9x13-inch loaf pan at 350 degrees for 60 to 70 minutes.

NUTMEG ICING
2 cups powdered sugar
2 tbsp. margarine, melted
1 tsp. vanilla
Dash nutmeg
2 tbsp. light cream

Combine icing ingredient and spread on cooled cake.

Nabisco (I think) used to make these cookies that were two soft vanilla wafers with a layer of sticky brown goo on the inside and a marshmallow type thing in the center. I think they were in a box with a light blue paper wrapper.

And Zots candies -- sort of like warheads, only not sour and they had fizzy stuff on the inside.

And Bounty bars (like Mounds, only better).

There's a Roy Rogers about 10 minutes from me...

I loved those!!! They have something almost exactly like them in EPCOT in CANADA. I think they were called...Curly Whirlys??? I could be wrong about the name. I bought a few for SIL but they didnt make it home from the trip. We told her they melted....BUT......we ate them!!!! shhhh don't tell her.

I love the McDLT - the hot stuff on the hot side and the cold stuff on the cold and you put it together

and Jumping Jack Cheese Doritos - I miss them so...

Oh, man...so many memories on this thread!

When I was a kid, my grandmother would always put money in my birthday card w/ a note saying for my parents to take me to Burger Chef w/ that money. I remember Burger Chef had the condiments all set out & it's where my dad taught me the beauty of mixing mayo & ketchup together for your fries :thumbsup2

I remember Pop Shoppe drinks, too! It was so fun getting all those different flavors of soda.

I was never a fan of the McDLT concept, because they put the cheese on the 'cold' side. The cheese is supposed to be all melted over the burger! You can't have cold cheese on a burger.

I thought of another thing I miss: Clearly Canadian - it was flavored sparkling water. I loved blackberry.

Does anyone remember this cereal? This was one of my favorite when I was growing up.

OR how about when you could buy Mickey Mouse bars in the ice cream section of the grocery store?? :mickeybar I miss those days :guilty:
Oh I loved Giggles!!

(and yes, I do realize I linked that entire sentenance. It was that important).
Cool site! I used to eat Marshmallow rice Krispies.

There was also another kind of cookie, sort of like Giggles, except there was no filling, and the faces weren't cut out , just indented. Chocolate and vanilla wafery kind of cookies. I used to eat them when I was 5 or 6, so mid-late 70s.

Lucky you!

They sell Bounty bars in my Stop & Shop. We have a small British import section and they have them there.
