LOSE BEFORE YOU CRUISE - Support Thread for all Cruisers

I can't believe there is a thread for this! We just booked for Nov. 13 as a total spur of the moment idea. I have been heavier than I'd like to be for 10 years now. I so want to lose 10-15 lbs and look like I did when my husband met me!

I also don't want to look at pictures of my heavy self from the cruise for years to come. I am doing good old fashioned diet and exercise.

Count me in:
Sarah (gdes1), starting now, goal is 10 lbs.

Hi Folks...mind if I join you!!!

Had a baby girl 10 weeks ago, cruising in Sept 2011 (I know, too far away) but would certainly enjoy a support group to help me shed those pregnancy pounds (have about 20 to go to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight). Just finished my first post natal run and hoping to get back into my Jillian Michaels 30 day shred program!!!

Cheers, and best of luck to everyone!!!

Congrats on the baby girl! I'm the mother of three boys so I'm very envious.

If I was honest about my pregnancy weight, I would admit that I gained alot of it after the birth. I was basically programmed to eat when I felt tired during pregnancy and well after the birth, face it, we're tired all the time.

So you're brilliant for focusing on it now. It's especially hard to exercise after birth with all you're doing and the hormones still running around your system.
But DO IT! Otherwise you'll be me 15 years later heavier with each half hearted try at dieting.

That said, I've lost 2 more pounds to be 225 and treadmill time is down to 33:25! I was on a plateau for a little while.

I tend to lose easier when I'm being faithful about my water drinking.

Hi :) I am another looking to join in on the thread and weight loss. I started about a year ago, and it was a yo-yo for me, doing really well, then the weight creeping back on. I am still down, so that is good. The past three weeks I've been diligent with my exercise and watching what I eat - the issue for me is keeping the weight off once I lose it. A few years ago, I reached my goal, and gained every single pound (plus more) back, I hope to avoid that this time around.

We're going on a Disney cruise in 39 days, and a biggie for me is that I don't want to sit there eating carrot sticks the entire trip, but at the same time, i don't want to un-do all the hard work I've put in to achieve the weight loss I have so far. I am thinking maybe I will wake up early to exercise before my husband and son, and then stick with one treat (or half) a day since it is vacation. I've tossed around the silly idea of "testing" eating a snack a day to see if it majorly messes me up, but I don't think that would work. I did have cake at my nephew's birthday party, but I also made sure to balance it out calorie-wise the rest of the day, and exercised a bit more. I so wish I could be one of those people who can eat whatever they want and never gain an ounce - but since that's not likely to happen, I am going with the watching what I eat and exercising.

Plans don't really work for me - I tried South beach, Atkins, Weight watchers, and ended up quitting. Yes, i lost the weight but ended up focusing on the things I couldn't have rather than on what I could, so I decided to go a route with things I like in a different way, so I can stick with it after I reach my goal, I am hoping it works at least. I know I can lose the weight, I've done it before, I want to lose it and keep it off .. that's where I always botch things up.

When I was at my heaviest, I was 163, now I am down to 146.5. My goal is 125. Since I am not that tall (5'2"), that's still on the "heavy" end of the recommended weight, but I would be thrilled with that.

Welcome beans!

Enjoy your cruise. They say the treadmills in the fitness room on board have the best view on the ship.
I wish I had used them to see if that's true but we're on the Dream next time and the fitness room is on the side of that ship.
If I manage to get to my goal, I 'm planning to set maintenance goals this time.
I usually start blowing it when people start positively commenting on my weight loss. I'm a rewarder!

That said I'm down to 218.4 with treadmill time of 31.20.woohoo.

Maintenance is what I need to plan on now too for when I reach my goal, that's when I always start packing the weight back on.

I am slowly improving my walking times, I was getting frustrated, but then I figured even a few seconds is still progress, so I try to keep inspired that way. I am hoping to ease in to running, I try, but so far, it's been tough transitioning, maybe I need to get the walking speed up more before I try that more.

Wow!!! I love this. I have been working on it since we booked our cruise on the Dream for 9-4-2011. So far i am down 17 pounds. I hope this is going to be good motivation for me.

I think I've hit a plateau :( I did my weigh-in this morning, and even though I've been exercising more, and still eating sensibly, I have not dropped at all, I've actually gained half a pound. I don't get it :(

They say to do 'something' different to get off a plateau.
A different kind of exercise or spread your food out into smaller more frequent meals.

Personally I focus on my water drinking. That usually works for me.

Stick with it! :)

I would really like to join in this thread. I started weight watchers online the last of May and I lost 16 lbs no problem. Then I had one weekend where I convinced myself a cookie here or a serving of chip and dip there wouldn't hurt and now I'm seeing the scale go the opposite way:mad:

I went and bought a cruise outfit for next May in the size I want to be (L) and that is my goal. I'm not as concerned with a number on the scale as I am in fitting into my outift. I'm a tight XL now, so I know it's doable just got to quit the snacking.

I love that I found this thread! I am sure I have more to lose than most (have about 50% of my weight to lose). I lost 55 or so, but have been on a plateau for about a year. I now have some incentive to get back to business with our cruise in just under 6 months. I'd like to lose about 50 by then, but I'll be happy with less.

Great job to those who have been losing and consistent in exercising and eating better!!

Well done to those of you who have been successful in losing those pounds. I keep looking at this post and keep WONDERing if this would be enough of an incentive or am I just DREAMing of a MAGICal fix in my FANTASYland for the pounds to drop off on their own. I managed to lose 16lbs with Slimming World between March and July this year but need to lose possibly another 20 to 28lbs before we set sail again. I don't feel motivated by the new female leader of our local class, The Guy was fantastic but he left. Ahh such a dilema, just going to prepare dinner now:lmao: Then I might registerfor this forum. Hope to be back and look forward to chatting to fellow wieght loss cruise members soon. A x :flower3:

Hi all! Would luv to join you! We are setting sail on our first cruise Oct 2011, and I am NOT going on a cruise without feeling comfortable in a swimsuit! I'd be happy getting back to my vacation weight from last year (which means losing 45 lbs), but this time, I want to lose all my baby weight (my youngest is 5.5 - guess I can't really call it baby weight any more!) and be back to my pre-preg weight from 13 years ago, which means I really need to lose 70 lbs. I was my most active at that time, and because I was working out 3 times a day (exercise bike at home, weights in the gym at lunch, and Highland Dance classes in the evenings), I weighed more than when I graduated from HS, but wore a smaller size!

So, I have a big road ahead, but tomorrow is my official starting date, and I have a little over a year to get to my goal. A couple of questions - how does this work? When are weigh-ins? Is anyone tracking? How do you put on the weight goals icons? I saw some people have "Biggest Loser Fall 2010" on their signatures - how do you add that?

Good questions. I was wondering the same. I thought that perhaps you just came on here each week after your own personal weigh in and logged your weight. But was secretly hoping that it was more organised. I am one who needs a kick up the ****** every now and again.

With regard to the ticker, if you click on any weight loss ticker you can use that area to create your own. You have to register but it was painless, even for me :rotfl2: Good luck with your goal. I look forward to working to mine with a great group on the forum. :woohoo:

Yes, I need a little kick myself! ("Fear of swimsuit" is a pretty good kicker!) I'm pretty competative, so I thought a little friendly push would do me some good.

Where do you register for a ticker?

If you click on my Piglet one, or any of the other ones on this topic it will take you through the steps for setting one up. Good Luck :thumbsup2

Thanks! I'll give it a try!

Hopefully we'll hear from each other (and others) more soon!

I was hoping to weigh myself every weekend, but guess what? I go away Thursday morning and we are not back until Sunday night. So no controlling food in the kitchen, I can only second guess what is healthy on the menu and hope that there are no hidden unwanted ingredients in the food. :confused3 Oh how will I cope :scared1: I guess we will just have to throw caution to the wind and enjoy the fact that we are in a lovely hotel and not offend the poor chef that is doing all that hard work and eat what he sends out of the kitchen. :lmao::lmao:

Speak soon A x

:rolleyes1 I'm with you on getting back to my "pre-pregnancy" from my almost 4 yr old! For that I need to lose about 25 lbs for my 'short-term' goal! A good friend loaned us her treadmill which has been collecting dust, so I'm going to start now by getting off the boards <sigh> and get on that thing!:surfweb:

 My big question is can I do this without joining Weight Watchers? I've always done well when DH & I did WW together, but with our current work schedules we wouldn't be able to attend meetings together (I work nights), so I'm trying to do it solo this time.

:thumbsup2 Keeping positive...we can do this!!

I have a 3 year old and a 2 month old and I need to get up and moving again and get this baby weight off before our cruise in May! My goal is to lose 25 lbs by the cruise (about 7 months away). Since I'm nursing an infant, I'm focusing more on exercising and trying to eat sensibly but not necessarily cut calories. I've been either walking outside with the double stroller, or doing a Walk Away the Pounds video 5x a week.
