One of my best friends, a Disney fiend just as we are, decided last week on the spur of the moment to do a long weekend at Disney. I referred him to some discount hotel codes on another website. When he called (this was a Tuesday), the sweet CM said, "Doesn't look like that code's available, but let me see what else I can find." After a few moments, she booked him and his family into a OKW studio for one Friday night for $149. I thought that was quite the deal. In your experience, is finding that kind of price on a DVC property common? Why even bother with moderates when you can stay for this kind of price?

That's a standard OKW studio rate recently. Friday and Saturday nights have never been higher for cash.

Through various discount programs being used by Disney, there have been very good bargains for this summer and upcoming fall at many of the resorts. The amount of discounting going on now is due to rentals and park attendance being down because of the economic downturn. Though there are usually some discounts available at some of the resorts, I would not expect to see the kind of almost universal discounting that is going on now to continue once the economy and rentals improve.

Also, I think Dean meant that Fri and Sat nights have never been at lower cost than the $149 price being offered now.

Let's play "what did Dean mean." I think, in addition, Dean meant that, unlike our DVC point structure, cash reservations have never differentiated between weekend and weekday nights. Therefore, they have never charged a higher rate for Friday and Saturday versus other days.

And, in the same theme of "what did Dreamfinder mean," I was just noting how easy it was to get a ressie on such short notice.

I called MS the other day for a cash ressie on Sat 10/20 for a studio and was quoted the member discount rate of $209. plus tax.
Looks like non-members get a better deal.

Yes, that's what I meant, LOL. I was actually saying that the points being higher for Fri/Sat nights has never been reflected in the cash prices. And though it seem a little schizophrenic at first, it makes sense to be totally different for points and cash unless they make the minimum 3 days for weekend and 4 days for weekday stays.

BillM, they were probably just quoting the standard DVC member rate at this time of year. Couldn't you just call CRO and get a discounted rate, like anyone else, during this discount time?
