looking to rent - please help

Hi all -
I am new here, and I was just told about DVC and renting points from members. FI and I will be honeymooning in Orlando on Jan 6-19, 2008. We were currently looking at moderates, but realized we may not be able to afford that (and we weren't to thrilled about the value resorts). Someone on the hotel board told me that we could rent points for OKW for $80 a night Sun-Thur and about $200 Fri-Sat. This has peaked my interest, and I am wondering if someone could give me more information on this....I have no idea how to even go about it.

Check out the Rent/Trade Board, read the FAQs at the top of the page and post your thread with your request. Points run from about $10 to $15 a point depending on the member. You will be making a reservation through a member and Disney will not be involved in any way with your reservation.

Yes, go over to the Rent/Trade board. Post a thread that says "Reservation Wanted: Old Key West (and then your dates and unit size)." Members with points available to rent will then reply to you with offers. As Deb&Bill said, points right now are going for about $10-$15/point. The renter sets the price, makes the reservation in your name, and then you pay them. The cost is usually along the lines of a moderate.

You want to be aware that cancellation policies for DVC reservations are very different than CRO reservations. I think that is one thing renters need to have their eyes wide open about. This isn't something where its easy to change your mind and if you get ill at the last minute, you may not get any sort of refund.

Different members have different arrangements on payments and cancellations, but I hate the thought of someone paying for a vacation they don't get to take.....

Also being a request for January of 2008 a reservation can not be made till at least Feb of 07.......As the others have said this is an agreement between you and the owner and not with Disney.
