Looking Older then you really are.

My sister is 2 years older than me but people seem to think she could pass for my mother. LOL!! She is married to a smoker, doesn't drink water, hates fruits and veggies and loves fried foods. Otherwise we weigh the same amount. My life is the complete opposite and I think her choices have taken their toll on her skin and hair. A lesson for young people. I think its not one or two of her choices but all of them combined.

People always think I'm younger than I am. I usually get between 16-18. I'm 20.

Thank you everyone for sharing, some have made me giggle. :)

I think the thing that made us go hmm is that almost everyone who ask if we are best friends are shocked to learn we are actually sisters, because we look nothing alike. So for someone to think we would be mother and daughter was a bit odd.

Frantasmic, I think you have had it the worst.

In the last 6 months I can think of at least 5 times someone has asked who is DS10's mother--me or DD12:lmao: I totalyl see that DD12 looks more like a 16 year old than a 12 year old--maybe she could pass for 18 if she was trying--but old enough to be a 10 year old's mother:rotfl2: She is 4 days shy of being 2 years older than him. I DO think a LOT of the percerption is not just looks but additude. DD can ACT like a mother and then peole assume she is the age to play that role. When my own motehr and I would be pal-ing around like friends when I was a teen lots of people thoguht we were sisters. On the rare occassions when she acted like a mother, then people thought she was a mother.

OP--maybe the way you were arguing just had you in a more "motherly" kind of role:confused3

Now that you mention it, my family always said I have the motherliness down to a science even though I have no children.

Somebody once made a snarky remark in my earshot about being the "trophy wife" and I said, "nope, I'm the starter wife, have been for the last 16 years!" :lmao:. DH and I are only 2 years apart and have been together for 21 years, but he's always looked more "grownup" than I have :thumbsup2.

That is probably a much bigger factor than physical appearance then. People unconciously judge age largely on attitude, dress, tone of voice, etc. You two were probably relating to each other in a more mother/daughte way than sister way (for what that person is used to--likely it was normal for you and your sister). So now you do not have to worry about LOOKING old:goodvibes

I completely forgot about attitude, but yes I have always taken care of my sister. So to an outsider I would come off as motherly, thank you Hadley.

I look younger than my actual age and DH looks older than his--he's had pure white hair since he was in his late 20's. So, we get this a lot. My favorite was when we were at the grocery store with dd (who is 18) and the cashier said, "Oh, it's so nice that your dad came along to help you girls with the grocery shopping." :lmao: I'm not sure who was more offended--my DH about being called my dad or my dd about being called my sister.

I was pretty much the only happy one on that particular outing. ;)

A friend took her DD10 into work before an early AM doctors appt. As she was coming in the office another guy we work with was coming in as well and held the door for them. As they came in he asked her if that was her granddaughter. My friend and I are the same age, 40.
