We will be visiting my husband's family this coming week. They live in Western New York, about an hour from Rochester. We will be taking my MIL to an appointment in Rochester one morning and are looking for a nice/fun place for lunch. Not looking for fancy. We once made the mistake of taking MIL to a fancy restaurant and she complained loudly about everything.

Rochester is my hometown :) Lots of restaurants within the city limits - what kind of food are you looking for? Jine's on Park Ave is always a great stop, something for everyone. Very casual. Gate House at Village Gate is one of my favorites, known for burgers and pizza but a nicer atmosphere than a typical comfort food joint. Genesee Brew House is also a fun place, especially if you're just visiting the area. It's home to the Genesee Beer brewery but they have a great restaurant and gift shop. A lot of the dishes are things unique to Rochester - garbage plates, Zweigle's hot dogs, etc. Amazing views of High Falls as well.

I can probably recommend more if you have a type of food in mind!

Thank you! I think the Genesee Brew House or Gate House sounds like a good fit. Now to decide.

Awesome! I lean more towards the Genesee Brew House since its fun for visitors, and it is easy to get in at lunch. You'd have no trouble getting in at Gate House either if you go that route. Have fun!

Genesee Brew House for the win!

I've been to Rochester twice, but once was just the train station and the other was on a boat on the Erie Canal.

I would recommend the Brew House, too. Great views. Elevated comfort food.

I used to love Gate House, but I'm not a huge fan of their new location (within the same building), and since I've been trying to eat cleaner, their food has upset my tummy on my last couple visits. And Jines is popular, but it's just a diner on a popular street.

If you like pho, SEA is my favorite. They have two locations.

The Brew House is a good choice.

If the appointment had been at Highland Hospital, I would have recommended the Highland Park Diner. I haven’t been in a while, but it still gets good reviews. Maybe could take my mom for lunch someday.
