Looking for recommendations on where to take my grandson on his 11th birthday, Disney character meals? Resort based not park based? Anyone? Thanks

Your resort-based choices for character meals are:

'Ohana (Polynesian) - usually Lilo, Stitch, Mickey, and Pluto - AYCTE skillet for the table
Chef Mickey's (Contemporary) - usually the Fab 5 - buffet
Topolino's (Riviera) - usually Mickey, Donald, Minnie, and Daisy in various art-based costumes - plated, one entree per person
Cape May Cafe (Beach Club) - usually Minnie, Donald, Goofy (and I think another) in beach attire - buffet
1900 Park Fare (Grand Floridian) - usually Aladdin, Jasmine, Tiana, Mirabel - buffet

We loved Chef Mickeys. We got to sit up top and had a great view of the castle at Chef Mickeys. Topolinos is great too. Chef Mickeys is easier to get a reservation and it’s a buffet where Topolinos is harder to get in and not a buffet.

Edit to add, those are the only resort based meals I have been to at WDW.

I would say Topolino or Ohana. Chef Mickey is cute i think for younger kids because they see everyone. So depends on what your group would prefer to see or eat.

Our grandchildren ages 4-15 prefer Cape May Buffet over Topolino's. They love the buffet aspect.
Last year we did the character breakfast at the Four Season, quite pricey but the characters spent a long time with us.

What characters would he like to meet? Our favorite is Ohana, followed by Cape May.

Thanks guys never been to chef mickeys, we have been to Ohana many years ago, before my grandson was born. Think we’ve decided on one of these. Haven’t been on here for years and it’s a totally different set up than before, so thanks again 🥰

We just went to Chef Mickeys for the first time in February and really enjoyed it, they brought a cupcake out for my daughters birthday (she turned 4 during the trip) and sang to her. A few characters were rotating in the area and made a big deal out of it. The photographer at the exit had some birthday props (though I was grumpy about paying extra for photos after paying $400 for breakfast, they were SUPER cute and I definitely did buy all of them 😅 ). The interactions were pretty great, my daughter was star stuck by Minnie who spent some extra time with her (gave her a huge hug and twirled her to show off her Minnie Mouse dress). The food was also pretty decent for a buffet.

My family love Topolino’s - it has become tradition to go on the final morning of our trip simply because Mickey gives the best goodbye hugs.

We like Chef Mickey’s too but it’s a LOT more chaotic and the characters interactions are quicker.

At CM you see the characters only one. At Topolino’s we’ve had the come around multiple times.

Interaction at chef mickeys was good, but you usually only get one visit with them bc it such a big, busy restaurant. Cape May came around at least twice and spent more time. We did have a later reservation, so that might’ve affected it. Overall a less hectic experience though. The characters at cape may would be Minnie, Daisy, Goofy and Donald.

Big fans of topilinos here! All my kids love it and it’s quieter than some of the other character meals. But if you have picky eaters in your party a buffet might be better

Toppolinos all the way! I did it for the first time at Thanksgiving. While it is plated, it was MORE than enough food - plus the pastry basket is all you care to eat. The character interaction was great and they did get around more than once. Also, it was peaceful. Now, I'm a single, 53 year old so I don't have kids to deal with, but I fully enjoyed the quieter, less hectic atmosphere. But don't take that to mean stuffy or that you HAVE to be quiet. It's still character dining and lots of fun...just not as loud and crazy as Chef Mickey's or Ohana. Plus - going out onto the deck after and seeing the views from the top of Riviera - chef's kiss!

Topolino's or Ohana by far. Topolino's is just gonna be a harder reservation to snag definitely. Definitely not 1900 Park Fare. Lots of princesses and small girls everywhere. It's not bad, but I'm confident he would rather a different place than that.

Topolino’s as first choice. Cape May Cafe as second choice. Don’t skip a walk around the outdoor deck at Topolino’s for the view from up high.
