Regarding Costco memberships, when my MIL asked us what we wanted for X-mas, we told her to just give us that.
I find it is MUCH cheaper on organic veggies. We also bought a huge bag of rice and cook that almost every day. It's a great filler for so many dishes. Also, their free-range, organic eggs, milk, meats are all much less there than at the local grocery store. I do agree it's easy to get sucked into buying something that is a large item and then you don't eat it so it's wasted. We did that with a bag of Quinoa last year we tried and didn't like so now it's about to become bird seed
