Hi all, thanks for the great message board! I am a long-time Disney vacationer and DVC Member over 12 years. Now my girls are older, we don't travel to Disney too much and wondered if I should sell my points or rent here? I can provide details but like to understand the legitimacy of renting to board visitors and your luck or hassles around it. If you can refer me to a thread that answers these topics, happy to head there for info!

Please do not ask OP for specific information regarding the contracts (i.e., resort, use year, number of points, etc). General questions are welcome, but posting/asking for specific details can be construed as an offer to buy, sell, rent. etc. and is not allowed. Thanks for understanding.

Thank you for the guidance! So it is legitimate to offer my use year points to visitors for renting? I know there are two popular DVC rental sites but wondered if they took a commission for helping to rent our points. It seems like a win-win because the nightly rates are insane now and our DVC properties are beautiful and full of amenities. Thanks for any info!

I used the rental section of this website and had great success. No middle man. Use other threads of the same resort to price your points competitively. Requests will start to pour in.

You must purchase gold level site access or something like that before you can post though. Or your thread will be taken down.

Hope that helps.

OK I'm kind of a newbie at the chat lingo so a Gold level let's you "post thru". Not sure what that means, thanks for your patience :)

Yes, you may offer your points for a DVC rental. I generally recommend that anyone new to renting start out by using a broker. There are several reputable brokers to choose from. They all have slightly different terms, so you will have to investigate each one separately. Most pay owners a set price per point, find a customer and arrange the rental. They charge the renter more per point than they pay the owner. Our DISboards.com DVC Forum sponsor (DVC Rental Store) has a good reputation, as does the DVC Store. There are several others often mentioned on these boards. The bokers will help you through the process and answer your questions.

You may also offer your points on the Rent/Transfer Forum. However, since you are a new poster, you will have to purchase a rental plan to do so. All the info you need can be found in the Sticky threads pinned near the top of that forum. You should also look at the pinned thread that tells you how to use the DIS Conversation system to communicate privately with other posters.

Here are some other threads you might find helpful:

"Post though", not "Post thru". In other words you need to be a paid forum member to post rental threads.

What I would do depends on exit strategy. If you feel like you’re done with Disney, i would just sell. If you want to hold for a few years for grand babies, then maybe I’d rent a few years.

Renting carries risk, and it is hassle and learning curve. You can make more money doing it yourself, but there are real reasons to go with an agency to rent out your points.

Its a great time to sell. If you have a 2042 contract, I might really think about it. The valuation on these is crazy right now.

I want to add that any PM you receive asking about the points should be reported in which you did not initiate based on a listing from the Rent/Transfer thread.

We rented our points through a broker once and it was easy peasy. You don't get as much per point as you would if you rented them out on your own, but there is less hassle to deal with when you let the broker do most of the work. :)

If you have more time on your hands and don't mind doing the extra leg work, you might want to try renting them out on your own.

Agree that if you feel you are done with Disney or rarely going to go, I would sell.
This year, we rented points from 2 contracts that we couldn't use last year due to closures. We used one of the rental companies because I didn't want to deal with the administrative hassles and trying to collect the money myself. I was happy to pay them a small commission to do that. There are risks in renting directly as well.
We had a very good experience with the company but hoping to use the points in the future rather than renting.
Renting the points will pay for your dues and a little more, but you won't make a lot of money doing it.

In considering to sell, keep in mind your points are good at Hilton Head, Vero Beach and Aulani. Now that ours are older we don't get to WDW much, but we've enjoyed a snowbird break at HHI.

By not traveling so much, do you mean every other year? Or longer? Because you could bank points and then book a trip at the beginning of your use year and get bigger accommodations (2 bedroom) for the week, depending on how many points you have.

If you want to make more money, rent on your own. There are links somewhere on these boards with sample contracts. Book closer to the beginning of the use year, rather than the end, in case you want to accommodate changes (you don't have to).

If you want (somewhat) less hassle, use a broker. There is a sponsor for these boards.
